《The Girl Who Stutters and The Boy Who Mutters》Chapter Forty One

By the time it's eleven everyone is in bed and asleep except for me. Scott came in and said goodnight about ten minutes ago and I've been waiting for Oakland to text me ever since.

Okay, yeah, I know that I shouldn't be going out with Oakland . But if someone else were in my position I'm sure they'd do it too. I mean I've been trapped in this room for so long and no one has even bothered to tell me why. Plus it's not like I don't trust Oakland. He's a good guy and he's always been fun to hang out with.

My phone suddenly dings and I rush to pick it up and I see that I have a new text.

I'm outside your window Juliet :)

I roll my eyes at his nick name and immediately stand up to move towards the window but I actually end up falling as soon as I stand. I haven't really been standing or moving around lately without the help of someone else and it sure doesn't help that aside from going to the bathroom I've been laying down for nearly three days.

I glance over at my crutches which are currently propped up against the wall then back to the window. After another ten seconds or so I stand up on my own and limp over towards the window. How did he even sneak that thing through security? I crack open my window and his head immediately snaps upward towards me.

"Ready to climb?" He whisper yells up to me when he sees my head pop out of the window.

"I'm n-not climbing onto t-this death t-trap," I say shaking my head at him. This is probably a bad idea.

"Got any better ideas of how I'm going to sneak you out of this place?"

"I'm sure y-you can c-come up with something yourself," I say glaring down at him. "There must b-be some other w-way."

"Well I'm sorry I didn't bring my portable slide with me today," he says sarcastically as he throws his arms up in the air. "Just climb down Abs, you're literally like two feet off the ground."

I huff out a breath of air before grabbing my phone and shoving it into my pocket. But suddenly the door to my room swings open and I twist around quickly to see a very disoriented Scott standing at the door. He looks like he's still half asleep.

"Are you okay?" Scott asks walking over to me and I quickly limp away from the window hoping that he doesn't look out of it. "I heard something from my room and it sounded like something fell so I thought I'd come and check on you."

"I'm f-fine I j-just f-fell out of t-the bed," I say shrugging. Gosh, I hate lying to him. He still looks super tired because he just nods before kissing me on the forehead and leaving the room. Well, that was certainly a close one. I walk back over towards the window and look down to see Oakland on his phone texting someone at a very fast pace.

"I'm c-coming down," I whisper yell to him and his head immediately snaps up towards me before he quickly jams his phone back into his pocket. "D-don't drop the ladder."

He nods grinning at me before placing both of this hands on the end of the ladder so that it doesn't slip. I take a deep breath before climbing out onto the ladder and beginning to climb down. I actually fell off a ladder a few years ago in my freshman year of high school because Anna wanted me to sneak out to a party with her and let's just say that even back I wasn't very graceful.

I'm doing well for the most part but it's the last couple steps that I start to lose my balance and fall backwards. I involuntarily scream because even though I'm only a few feet off the ground it feels like a million and I'm pretty positive that I'm going to die. Luckily enough I fall right back onto Oakland so he's there to soften my fall but I don't think he was even ready for it because we both ultimately end up falling to the ground. I immediately scramble up from on top of him and he groans as he holds the back of his head.

"D-did you get h-hurt?" I ask him concerned. Great job Abby, you fell and hurt someone else.

"Fine," he says waving his hands at me before slowly he slowly stands up. He grabs hold of my wrist and starts walking out of the yard. "C'mon I parked my car over here."

I follow him to his car and climb into the passenger's seat as he climbs into the driver's side. He starts the car and begins driving down the very deserted street. I'm surprised there aren't more cars out tonight, this is usually a relatively busy street. It's almost awkward for the first few minutes of the car ride because neither Oakland or I seem to have much to say. He's the first to break the silence though.

"How are you?" He simply asks biting his lip as if he's nervous.

"I'm okay," I shrug.

"Why just okay?" He asks looking over at me as we stop at a red light. I raise my eyebrows at his curiousness.

"You are n-not an experience f-friend enough to unlock t-that response y-yet," I say in a very monotone voice as he looks over at me confused. "T-try again after reaching f-friendship level ten."

"Friendship level ten?" He asks looking over at me with a small smile on his face. "How would I even get there."

"B-buy me a c-car and we'll see," I say looking out of my window to see we're now around some restaurants. "W-where are we g-going?"

"I was thinking McDonald's he says pointing at the McDonald's that's just down the street from where we are. "Hey wanna hear a joke?"

"G-go ahead," I say chuckling at his eagerness to tell me a joke.

"Knock knock."

"Really?" I ask laughing and turning towards him. "Y-you're telling me a knock knock j-joke?"

"Knock knock," he says again but this time his face is a little bit more flushed when he says it.

"Fine," I say shaking my head at him. "W-who's there?"

"Usher."

"Usher w-who?"

"Usher wish you would let me in."

I look over at him and chuckle a little bit but he's looking back at me with a rather serious expression. I shrug it off before looking back out of my window and realizing that we're already parked outside of McDonald's. I look over and see Oakland bolting out of his door and almost sprinting over to mine. He opens my door and holds out his hand to help me up. I take his hand and stand up out of he car before I begin limping towards the fast food restaurant.

"So there's actually something that I wanted to talk to you about," Oakland says as I limp into the restaurant after he opens the door for me.

"Like w-what?" I ask not really paying much attention to him as we walk over to one of the booths. There are a couple of other people in here aside from us, they look like they're probably in high school though.

"Well I know you haven't been on campus much lately..." he starts saying.

"Yeah and?" I ask looking over at him as he contemplates what he should say next.

"Well I just thought you might want to see this," he pulls out his phone and presses something before pulling it out of his pocket and showing it to me. It's a picture and as soon as I see it I snatch the phone out of his hand and quickly zoom in to get a close view of who the two people in the picture are. Is that..? No it can't be...

Is Scott cheating on me?
