《The Amber Paladin》Getting rid of Zarkon part 2

You saw space dyed in red and black all around you as you emerged from the wormhole. There were only the Lions, the castle and Zarkon's ship present now.

Everything had been going as planned. You had managed to upload the virus to Zarkon's ship, rendering it powerless and forcing it into the huge wormhole created with the giant teludav. What you had done so far was truly triumphant, but there was still so much to do with such a limited time. You had to get rid of Zarkon for good.

"We've got to act fast. The power will only be down for 20 minutes." Shiro said surprisingly calm when it was time to act. You knew that this was your chance. You pretty much held the fate of the universe in your hands.

"Alright everyone, form Voltron!" Shiro then said, his orders echoing through your Lion. "Right!" Everyone replied as the Lions soared upwards in total unison. Then they started to transform, everything clicking into place as the magnetism pulled you together, eventually forming Voltron. And with Voltron, you headed towards Zarkon's ship.

"The Blade of Marmora's schematics showed four targets we need to hit. The weapons systems, the engines, the bridge, and the shield generators." Shiro explained the exact details of the plan as your screen showed the vital targets. "Now, let's put an end to Zarkon, once and for all!" Shiro still said, his voice giving you all courage. "Yeah!" You all just cheered in unison. You were ready. Zarkon's time was through.

"Form sword!" Shiro then yelled. And immediately Keith and Pidge formed the sword. Then you started your boosters, heading straight to Zarkon's ship. "Here we go!" Lance cheered as you thrust the sword straight to the side of the ship and started moving forwards, making a huge notch on the surface. Then you did it again. And where ever you struck the sword, explosions soon followed. You were wreaking havoc on the ship.

First you destroyed the shield generators by cutting all through them, shattering them to pieces. And it seemed easy as the ship couldn't move at the moment and there were no fighter planes disturbing you. Maybe it was even too easy.

"Next, let's hit the engine systems!" Shiro then said as you flew a bit further away from the ship while changing the target. Then Voltron landed on the surface of the ship and struck the sword straight to where the engine systems were. And you struck it so hard that a pressure wave erupted from the impact, making a small crater on the side of the ship. You were really in your element.

"We're unstoppable!" Lance cheered happily. And you immediately smiled. It really felt like that. "Don't jinx it!" You then said back amused. "With you around it can only be blessed." Lance answered you with his most Don Juan voice. And to that, you just burst out laughing.

"Shut up Lance." Keith's irritated voice suddenly stopped your laughter. He wasn't even trying to come up with a great comeback, he just blurted it out. But imagining him being jealous was making your cheeks slightly flush in red unintentionally. You couldn't help but find his boyish jealousy kind of cute.

"I know it's going well, but please, guys, focus." Shiro then stopped the whole conversation with a slightly amused sigh. And that shut you all up, even though you still chuckled in your mind. But you knew you had to concentrate.

You couldn't slow down your momentum, so you just went towards your next target, flying around the ship while trying to destroy all the vital points and functions. You had to neutralize Zarkon's ship before the time was up, and you were doing so good that you ended up wondering if everyone inside were panicking already.

Then you fired lasers from the Green Lion along the side of the ship. And straight after that you again readied the sword and flew along the side of the ship, letting it cut through the surface, creating explosions along the way.

You kept going and going, creating havoc in peace since nobody was there to oppose you. But gradually the monotonous task was starting to make everyone lose their focus. And soon you started to hear some frustrated sighs and murmurs from everyone. "There's not much left. Just try to hold on. Let's target the bridge next." Shiro still tried to encourage you to just keep going.

But just as you were flying towards the ship's bridge, your eyes widened in shock. Suddenly a large circle appeared beneath you. It seemed to consist a huge amount of energy, and it kind of resembled a black hole even though you had no idea what it was. It definitely wasn't a wormhole created by Allura. You just sensed an immense amount of power emitting from it.

"What is that?" Lance asked, as confused as you were. "I don't know, but it gives a bad vibe." You muttered silently. "Maybe we should...I don't know, like, get away from it?" Hunk then asked a bit unsure.

But that's when suddenly the energy from the circle erupted into a giant stream of electricity, heading straight towards you. "Get out!" You immediately yelled, your eyes widening with horror as you saw it coming. But before you could even move, the stream hit Voltron. It was so sudden that you couldn't even react before the electricity went through you and your Lion.

You heard everyone screaming as you felt an intense amount of electricity coursing through your body. And immediately it started to feel hot, like your body was on fire. You couldn't move, and soon the warmth started to turn into pain. It felt like your vitality was drawn out of you and your Lion.

You started to have a hard time keeping yourself together as you felt weaker every second. You tensed up all your muscles while trying to endure it, but the pain was too immense. And soon your sight was starting to get hazy, and your ears were ringing loudly. You wanted to take your hands off the handles to cover your ears but you just couldn't move.

Then you heard your Lion roaring weakly, warning you that she was losing all her powers. "Try to hold on! I can't move either!" You yelled at her. And immediately after that an intense burst of electricity cut through you, sending a chain of pain from your head to toe, drawing out the last bits of energy you still had left, making you lose consciousness. And just before you passed out, you heard your Lion letting out an almost muted painful roar.

----------

You opened your eyes and realised that you were in somewhere dark. You were floating on air. Or space. Or somewhere where there was just black all around you. And you felt somewhat thin, like you didn't even exist.

Then you looked up and saw glowing amber coloured outlines of your Lion in front of you. And she looked straight at you, not defiantly but pleadingly. "Is something wrong?" You asked. But she didn't reply. She just turned around and started to run away. "Hey! Where are you going?" You yelled after her. But she just ran.

You tried to run after her, but you couldn't move forward. Then you tried to turn on your jet pack, but realised you didn't have it on. You didn't even have your armour anymore. You were slightly losing everything around you. Slowly everything you ever knew was fading away. For some reason it felt like a bad omen.

You tried to look for the others, but nobody was there. "Keith! Paladins!" You yelled. And soon an echo replied. "Paladins! Shiro! (Y/N)! Hunk!" It answered from somewhere so far away that you had no idea where it came from. But as the echo resonated in your head, your sight suddenly started to get hazier. And soon you couldn't see a thing.

----------

"Paladins! Can you hear me?" A familiar voice still echoed in your head. But now it appeared much closer. And with that, you slowly started recovering your consciousness, the darkness covering your eyes starting to fade away.

Even though it hurt, you still opened your eyes. Your vision was still hazy as you tried to focus on your surroundings. But little by little, you started to realise that you were still in your Lion.

And then you heard Shiro's voice, finally bringing you back to the present. "Yes, Princess. We're here." He answered with a voice so strained that you knew he was in pain too. "Oh, thank the ancients!" You then heard Coran sighing relieved. And that's when you tried to say something too, but your throat was so dry that you couldn't get a word out. You were feeling slightly nauseous and every part of your body ached.

You tried to move your body, but it hurt like hell. Even breathing made your muscles feel extremely sore. "Is everyone alright?" Shiro then asked with a hoarse voice. And straight after that you heard faint grunts and pained sighs from everyone.

"I'm fine, but I can't move my Lion." Keith answered him. And as soon as you heard him, you let out a relieved sigh. You were really glad that he was alright. "Yes, even though it aches like hell." You then got some words out after clearing your throat, probably sounding more pained than intended. But immediately you heard Keith faintly sighing, just barely audible. "Good..."

Then you straightened out your back, trying to stretch it to ease the aching. And even though it felt stiff and hurt whenever you moved, you had to get over it. So you just put your hands on the handles once more and tried to push them. But nothing happened.

"Girl, you alright?" You asked, but didn't get a reply. "My Lion isn't operational either." You then said to the others. "Yes, none of them are." Shiro answered you with worry in his voice. And that's when you let out a deep breath that hurt your chest. You were worried for your Lion.

"What happened? What was that?" You then asked while raising your voice. "You've been hit with some kind of witchcraft that draws the quintessence out of you." Coran answered you. Quintessence? So that's why it felt like the vitality was being sucked out of you. Cause it practically was. "You need to get out of there! Another blast like that and you may not survive!" Coran then said to you strictly. "How!? We can't move!" Hunk also raised his voice, clearly nervous.

"Wait. What's that?" Lance suddenly asked, interrupting Hunk's panic. And when you turned to look outside, you saw that an opening had appeared to the side of Zarkon's ship. And something seemed to emerge from it. What was happening? What was that?

But then your eyes widened with horror as you realised what was emerging from the ship. It was something that resembled Voltron, but with big glowing wings of some sort. "Yeah, like I said, what is that!?" Lance asked again, now clearly more panicky. "I don't know, but I bet it's nothing good." Pidge said, trying to sound sarcastic but failing miserably. "I really don't have a good feeling about this." You then said, even though you knew the others were feeling it too.

"You must get moving. Remember your training. Remember all the battles you've been through." Allura then said strictly, trying to get you to focus again. And immediately you turned your attention back to your Lion, pushing the handles once more.

"Come on girl. Please, we need to move." You tried pleading her while pushing the handles. But still nothing. You had already forgotten about the aching in your body, but at the same time, a horrible dread was starting to creep up on you slowly. The kind of dread that would make a nest in your heart if you would give it even the tiniest room. So you took a deep breath, trying to push that dread away, keeping your courage. This was not the time to falter.

"Voltron's still not responding." Shiro answered to Allura when nothing seemed to happen. But that's when suddenly the thing that had emerged from the ship, opened its gleaming eyes. And that's when Shiro let out an audible grunt. "It's Zarkon."

Zarkon!? You immediately gasped, your throat so dry that the only sound coming from you was a dry breath. If it really was Zarkon, you would be in big trouble since you couldn't move. "Oh no!" You then heard Hunk yelling as Zarkon started his boosters, getting airborne.

You immediately reacted by desperately pushing the handles once more. "Please wake up girl! I need you!" You yelled at her, but still nothing. She didn't react to your commands, and you had no idea what to do. And soon a cold sweat was starting to form on your forehead as you saw Zarkon flying straight towards you.

"Listen to me." You suddenly heard Allura's commanding voice on the intercom. "You are true Paladins now. Connect with your Lions, reach out to each other!" She continued strictly, trying to make you focus again. And as she spoke, everyone went quiet, trying to calm down. She was right. You couldn't give up now. You had to do something.

You tried to ignore your rapidly beating heart as you focused on Allura's words. You had to connect with your Amber Lion and try to make her come back. "Fight! This cannot end now!" Allura still yelled with so much power and conviction, believing in you all.

And just before Zarkon reached you, he suddenly got hit with a laser beam coming from the castle. It hit Zarkon so hard that he was pushed straight back to the side of his ship, colliding with it harshly. And even though he was not moving anymore, the castle just kept firing at him. Allura was clearly buying you time.

That joy didn't last for long though as the beam was suddenly sent back to the castle. Zarkon was reflecting it back with his shields. And before anyone could even react, the castle was hit with its own beam, creating a huge explosion.

No! Could they have survived something like that? "Allura!" You yelled with horror as the castle was pushed back by the force of the beam. "Allura? Coran?" Shiro tried asking for them too, but didn't get a response. "Princess..." Lance then said while letting out a desperate sigh before a pressuring silence fell among you.

All you could do was to watch as the castle floated in the distance after getting hit. You even forgot about Zarkon for a moment as you just looked at the devastating sight. And soon the pressuring silence started to feel like a massive weight on your shoulders. Nobody said a thing, and all you could hear was your own ragged breaths. But when you felt your eyes getting teary, you had to push them back. You couldn't break down now.

"Everybody, listen." Shiro's hoarse voice broke the silence. "We have to fight. We have to channel all our energy. Visualize five becoming one. We have to focus everything we have into moving Voltron." He spoke, his voice gradually filling with conviction. He was leading you again, and he was right. He knew what to say every time. He knew what you needed in order to function together.

So you tried pushing the images of Allura and Coran out of your mind and focus only on your Lion, taking in a deep breath and closing your eyes. "We are the last thing standing in the way of Zarkon's total universal domination." Shiro still said, his voice getting more distant the more you tried to reach out to your Lion.

And after steadying your breath and concentrating, you started to gradually feel the energy flowing through you, making the last bits of the aching go away. "I need you girl." You then whispered, searching for her. And slowly you started to feel her heartbeat getting back. It started to get stronger as she responded to you, slowly but surely.

"I'm not giving up that fight!" Shiro then yelled, clearly determined to get you moving again. "Are you, Hunk?" He asked. And you heard Hunk answering with the most serious tone you had ever heard from him. "No!" He said as you felt some power returning to Voltron. He had activated the Yellow Lion.

"What about you (Y/N)?" Shiro then asked you. "No way!" You immediately said, raising your voice just as you felt her heartbeat getting stronger. And immediately after that the lights returned to your Lion as she woke up with a roar so gallant that you were almost moved to tears. She was back.

"Pidge?" Shiro then asked. "Never!" She cheered happily back as the Green Lion awakened with a loud roar, again more power returning to Voltron. "Lance?" Shiro continued. "Let's go down swingin'!" Lance immediately replied as his Blue Lion roared proudly. "Keith?" Shiro then asked lastly. "I'm all in." Keith replied with a husky voice so full of determination that it made your heart pound in your chest. And with the Red Lion's roar, the Black Lion also got his energy back, making Voltron functional again. You had done it. You were back.

Now that you could move again, you turned your attention back to Zarkon. He had already recovered from the hit he got earlier and was now forming a sword similar to yours while making his way towards you. But you didn't have time to wonder about it, you had to move. Keith and Pidge immediately formed the sword as you prepared for Zarkon's attack.

With tremendous power, Zarkon swung his sword at you. And even though you blocked it with yours, the impact was still so grave that it made you lose your balance, sending Voltron flying backwards.

Straight after that Zarkon charged at you, again and again, hitting with his sword. You blocked every one, but with the intense amount of anger in each hit, you had a hard time keeping yourself balanced. Sparks flew between your swords as they clashed together continuously. Zarkon's hits were just so harsh that you were pushed back with each hit. You were clearly on the defensive side now.

You tried to calm the situation down by putting some distance between you and Zarkon while firing lasers at him. But he evaded every one of them while firing back at you. And soon you realised that you were basically equals in many ways, trying to beat each other with similar attacks. You knew you had to try something different.

"All right, let's hit him with the big guns. Hunk, form shoulder cannon!" Shiro ordered him. And Hunk immediately formed the cannon, not even questioning him. "Fire!" Shiro then yelled as a huge beam was fired towards Zarkon. It was much more efficient than regular lasers, so he should be in trouble with that one.

But just in time before the beam hit Zarkon, his wings moved in front of him, creating a protective shield. It deflected the beam entirely, leaving everything unscathed, like he wasn't affected by it at all. And that's when you gasped, realising that you were in a slight stalemate with Zarkon. What could you do to beat him?

"Look out!" Shiro's sudden yell startled you. And as you looked ahead, you realised that another stream of electricity was heading straight at you. The same kind that drew the quintessence out of you and rendered you immobile.

You all pushed the handles hard, making the boosters work full power as you evaded the beam just in time. All you felt was an immense pressure radiating as the stream flew straight past you. And when you then averted your attention from Zarkon, he immediately took advantage of it.

Suddenly you felt a sharp pain coursing through your body as Zarkon kicked Voltron's side, hitting straight at your Lion and making you erratically fly away from him. The impact surprised you all as you didn't see it coming. Voltron just spun around, getting further away from Zarkon.
