《Six of Crows One-Shots》Kaz the Tap Dancer

So we all know that Kaz Brekker broke his leg and has to use a cane and his cane is cool and edgy because he's a mainstream boy who is such a dork.

So Kaz apparently fell off a roof, right? His leg never healed correctly, am I on the right path here?

Well, I think the story is a little different and I think that the truth is that Kaz broke his leg while he was tap dancing.

So, Kaz Brekker, our Lord and Savior, is super edgy and dark and brooding. He wears a black suit, cuts his hair as an average depressed teenage boy would, and he's not nice to anyone.

What proof does this have that he is, in fact, a tap dancer?

Tap dancers wear costumes that aren't too extreme. Kaz wearing a suit could be like him dressing up in a costume before his big solo routine. His haircut would totally show that he is so sad about not being able to tap dance anymore. And the rudeness? That one is obvious. Everybody knows that he's rude to people so they can't learn his secret talent and joy of tap dancing.

I'm also gonna mention that tap relieves stress and Kaz has barrels of that. Plus, it probably gives him that sentimental feeling of being so happy because he's not murdering people.

He was also basically neglected as a child. I mean, he didn't do much, he just lived on a farm and then boom, everyone he loves is dead and he's gotta grow up and be all cool. But the inner child in Kaz was crying out so desperately to do something that other kids got to do.

So he started to tap dance. And one night, he was so happy that he went up on a roof to tap dance and he fell when he did a completely epic leap.

And now his leg is broken.

So, I will tell you his tale.

Kaz glared at his instructor, Ghezen how he wanted to kill her, but he couldn't because then he would never be able to perform his solo.

Yes, that's right. A solo.

Kaz wasn't your ordinary tapper, you see. He was the best tap dancer in Ketterdam that so many people were in love with him for his skill.

He had been introduced to something exceedingly weird by one of his background hip-hop dancers. They called it fanfiction.

There was a tale of Kaz the Very Bold and Very Beautiful tap dancer who blessed the ladies of the land with his love and Kaz was honestly horrified. Why were people even allowed to write things like that?

Kaz practiced his solo one more time, watching himself in the mirror.

It may be odd, how Dirtyhands, the cruel leader of the Dregs loved to tap dance, but to Kaz, it was as refreshing as watching a guy bleed out of his eyeball socket onto the dirty road. Demonic, yet beautiful.

So Kaz, feeling very lighthearted and giddy, went up onto the roof of the Slat and balanced on the flat outer edge of the roof.

With his tap shoes on tight, Kaz danced across the roof, smiling as he did the familiar turns and moves.

In one epic motion, he went to do a leap worthy of an award. When he came to land back on the roof, he was met with air as he plummeted down, down, down...

Excruciating pain arched up his leg as he landed on the lower roof of the Slat.

"No!" Kaz cried. "Now I'll never get to perform my corny tap dance and get roses thrown at me!"

As Inej helped him up, she asked, "What were you doing up on the roof? And why are you wearing tap shoes?"

"I was definitely, totally not tap dancing up there. I was trying to kill someone with my totally not tap shoes that I bought from my drug dealer. But I slipped by accident."

Inej gasped. "Oh my gosh, so relatable and believable."

A month later, Kaz commisioned his cane after recovering from the embarrassment of never being able to perform his tap solo.

Now, when he limped past the theatre, he was reminded of his youth when he could dance across the stage with so much grace and beauty...
