"What have you done to yourself?" Elizabeth whispered as she sat beside her father's bed in the hospital – holding his hand in hers. Her eyes were red. Her cheeks were wet. She couldn't believe that this fragile man – sleeping with tubes and other medical devices attached to him as her father – Owen Harrison. Elizabeth didn't think he would be in such a bad state when she arrived but seeing him with no hair on his head, his nails were blue, she could see how boney he has become in the matter of a month – it was killing her. She couldn't believe her eyes and just stared at him – he looked almost unrecognizable.

Marcus, Silas, and Elizabeth arrived in London hardly two hours ago. They didn't even go home to freshen up – they just came straight to see their father at the hospital from the airport. The three siblings were tired, but they know they wouldn't have been able to rest knowing their father is in the hospital – they had to come here first.

When they arrived, Franklin was already here by Owen's side. The three of them didn't even get the time to greet Franklin properly as they rushed to their father's side. Franklin gave them privacy and walked out. Elizabeth couldn't stop herself from breaking into sobs when she first saw Owen. It was hard to recognize the man. She has always been closest to him. Silas and Marcus would always call her their dad's favorite and Owen never hid the fact that he loved Elizabeth the most – not just because she was the youngest, but because Owen was always fond of daughters and when Elizabeth was born – his wish to father a daughter came true.

Silas couldn't hold his tears either, but he didn't break into sobs, no matter how much he wanted to. He walked behind Elizabeth, who bent down and placed her head on the side of Owen's bed and wept, and held her by her shoulders – while he looked at his sleeping father. If it wasn't for heavy dosages of painkillers, Owen would have woken up by the movement and noises. "Dad, you have to get better, you hear me?" Silas asked his sleeping father before he broke down as well.

Silas was always a troublemaker of the Harrisons. He has always been reckless and hasty with his decisions, and whenever he would get in trouble – he would look for his father, and without a doubt – Owen would help him through – but he would not let Silas go with a good scolding. "This is the last time I doing this for you, Silas." Owen would scold Silas after he would mess something up, but deep down, both, Owen and Silas knew that if Silas ever get in trouble – Owen will do it all over again.

Marcus stood at the foot of the bed. He was trying to suppress his tears – trying to control his overbearing emotions like he always does, but it wasn't helping. Marcus felt his heart crush in his chest as he sees his father weak. Although Marcus was adopted, Owen never made him feel like he is not his child. Owen always favors Marcus. When the world turned against him, Owen remain by his side. Owen would always include Marcus in every important and unimportant event in his life as he did with Elizabeth and Silas.

Ruby made Marcus's life a living hell, but when the truth came out to Owen – he apologized to Marcus like it was his mistake. He never excluded him from anything. Owen forbid to ever call Marcus his adopted child because to him Marcus was, is, and will always be his eldest, most sensible, and responsible son. Marcus still remembers the time when everyone had turned his back on him. When Marcus was all alone with his newborn child. Marcus didn't even have the time to grieve Susan's death – he was all alone with no one to be there for him in his hard time. But there was Owen, who would come see Marcus every other day. He would sometimes babysit Kathie. He would bring her toys. He would bring Marcus food. Owen never stopped being a father to Marcus and Marcus never stopped being a son to him.

Back in New York, Maria put her phone down after talking to her father, who informed her that the siblings has reached and were spending time with Owen. "They got there. They are with Owen at the hospital, right now." Maria told Charlie, who is staying with Maria till Silas, and Marcus are gone. Charlie heaved a sigh and nodded her head. Charlie looked at the teacup on the table in front of her. After putting the children to bed, Maria and Charlie fixed a cup of tea while they waited to get a word from either of their husbands, but they didn't hear from them – Maria called her father. They just wanted to know if they got there safely.

"He did say how is Owen doing?" Charlie asked.

Maria sighed and nodded, "Not good. He is on a lot of painkillers at the moment," Maria replied. Franklin told Maria how Owen's health is continuously and rapidly deteriorating. Maria's eyes filled with tears as she recalls sweet memories with Owen. He has always been a joyous person. Even when he was such a big name, he never treated Maria differently. Where his wife brought in the difference between the two classes, he never did. He always treated Maria and Charlie with the same respect and love as he treated Elizabeth – sometimes even more.

Maria sniffled as tears sting her eyes. Charlie got on her feet and shift nearer to Maria. Charlie embraced her in a hug while Maria roke down in her arms. A lot happened in a matter of just two days and even when Maria was trying to be strong for her husband and kid – all this was taking a toll on her mental health. She silently sobbed in Charlie's arm, "It feels like everything is wrong right now." She complained to Charlie, who rubbed Maria's back as her friend cried in her arms.

"Sean wasn't supposed to die. Owen wasn't supposed to be so sick. Everything is falling apart. Why can't we have normal lives, Charlie?" She sobbed. Charlie's eyes were glossy as well as she sniggered and repeated what once Maria said to her when she was crying over something, "That's because we Harrisons," She replied – her voice wobbled.

Maria shook her head and pulled away from Charlie. Her hair sticking to her face. Maria shook her head, "Saying that is an easy way out," She told Charlie, "Marcus, Silas, Elizabeth, and Owen don't deserve this. They are good people! We are good people! We aren't supposed to get hurt so much." She cried. "I just want Owen to get better, but I feel like my wish can't come true." She added with fresh tears falling off her eyes.

In Chicago, Leo has been trying to reach Elizabeth ever since she reached New York – but she isn't answering his calls or messages. He had to ask about their flight to London from Maria. Now Leo is concerned about her and just wants to know if she has reached safely and if she is feeling okay – ut Elizabeth was mad at Leo and she is completely ignoring him.

Leo tried one last time and once again, the call went straight to voicemail. Leo pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed as he recorded the message – again, "Elizabeth, please, I am very worried for you, babe. I am sorry. I know my apologies aren't going to make any difference, but believe me – I would have told you if Owen hasn't asked me to keep it from you. Please, forgive and please, text me back. At least let me know how are you, please. I am worried for you." He ended the message and sent it before he placed the cellphone on the bed and ran his fingers through his hair.

"What did you do to make her so mad at you?" Leo was startled by the small voice. He wiped his head around to see Liam standing by the boy, dressed in his night suit, holding his storybook in his hand and looking at it with his big eyes. It was past his bedtime – he shouldn't be out of his room so late at night.

Liam is still staying with Leo and Elizabeth since Sharon's health isn't well enough to be at home without a caretaker, so she stays in hospital while Liam lives with them. Leo finds himself in a very complicated situation with Liam. He is scared for the boy's future. If something happens to Sharon, what will happen to Liam? Leo would take him under his care in a heartbeat, but he is afraid Elizabeth might not approve of it. She is not a children's person. But he also doesn't want to put Liam in the system, so he has meaning to have this conversation with her, to secure Liam's future.

Leo wants to ask Elizabeth if Liam could come to stay with them until he is old enough. She doesn't have to be his mother. Leo would never ask her to perform motherly duties towards him, never – but he would like to ask him to bear with his innocent presence before Leo doesn't want to give up on this little guy. He has known Liam since he was a few hours old – how could he even try to harden his heart towards him? Leo can't and he just needs Elizabeth to understand him, but her being mad at him and her being in London, for God knows how long – puts the uncertainty on a long pause.

Leo smiled at Liam and sat on the edge of the bed, "Hey, buddy. Why are you still up?" Leo asked while patting on the bed. Liam didn't need to be told twice as the boy walked into the room and sat on the bed beside Leo.

Liam looked down at the storybook, "Elizabeth was reading this book to me before she left. I couldn't sleep because I could stop thinking about what will happen next in it. Can you please read it to me?" He asked Leo – handing him the book. Leo smiled and ruffled Liam's hair, who smiled back in return and made himself comfortable in Leo and Elizabeth's bed.

Elizabeth's affection towards Liam was confusing Leo. Elizabeth is not a children's person – everyone knows that, but the ways she behaves around Liam – the things she has been doing for him was making Leo wonder if Liam holds a place in Elizabeth's heart and if the place is secure enough for her to let Liam live with them. "Leo?" Liam's small voice spoke. Leo looked at Liam and realized that he was waiting for Leo to continue with the story. Leo shook his head, "Oh, sorry." He mumbled and sat on the bed beside Liam and opened the book, but before he could read from where Elizabeth left, Liam spoke.

"Is Elizabeth's father going to die?" Liam has always been a brutally honest boy. Maybe it helps him with his situation. Leo look at Liam and heaved a sigh, "I am not sure, but it doesn't look too good," He replied honestly. Liam nodded his head and once again looked at Leo, "Is grandma going to die?" He asked.

Leo's eyes widened as he quickly shook his head, "Of course, not! She is going to get better and come home soon," Leo replied. Liam kept on looking at Leo with a neutral expression, "You don't have to lie, Leo. She looked very weak when I went to see her yesterday. Elizabeth said she is getting better too, but I think she was lying as well," He replied to Leo. Leo didn't think a ten-year-old boy would be this observant. Leo opened his mouth to tell him that he thought wrong, even though what Liam observed was true – Sharon has gotten a lot weaker, but Liam beat him to it, "If grandma died I will have to live in a foster home. What is it like?" Liam's question stunned Leo.

Leo felt like someone knock air off his lungs. His heart crushed in his chest, "You are never going to live in a foster home - not until I am alive. And Grandma will live. She is getting better. Once she is completely fine, she will move back to her house and you will live with her, you hear me?" Leo told Liam sternly. Leo says Elizabeth isn't fond of children, but he is no different – he doesn't know how to handle a child, but he is willing to learn for Liam. He is not going to let him go into the system.

Liam smiled and shrugged, "I am fine with it. Tony told me that his cousins live in the foster house and they like it there. I might too. I don't mind." Liam replied.

Leo squinted his eyes, "You are way too mature for your age," He wondered out loud, to which a boyish giggle escaped Liam's mouth breaking through all the early maturity, "That is what Elizabeth said," He replied.

Liam is mature for his age, but he has seen so much since he was just a small child, that he shaped this way. First, his father died in a war before he was born, then his mother fed him bleach and hurt him for selfish reasons, now he lives with his grandma and goes through bullying because his mother tried to kill Elizabeth. He knows and has seen everything.

In his short, ten years of life, Liam has seen more than an adult would, of course, he toughened up over time. Liam is already at the point where he expects and doesn't expect everything. His grandma taught him that he might face a lot of troubles in his life and he has to go through them with a smile on his face and with a brave heart. He is willing to do as he was taught.

Leo ruffled Liam's hair, "You don't have to be like this, okay? I am not giving up on you, ever. So, no matter what happens, you will always find me by your side," Leo told him.

Liam just stared into Leo's eyes for a few seconds before he only smiled and nodded his head. "Okay, now please read me the rest of the story," Liam asked Leo.
