《Harrisons - The Last Chapter》Chapter Nineteen: One Last Try

It was a tearful farewell for Elizabeth. Even when they get onto the plane, Elizabeth couldn't hold her tears in. For her, it is like the first time she is leaving her family behind and moving to another city for work. Where it is exciting to have her job back and she was livid to move in with Leo, she couldn't stop thinking about her family. Since a big chunk of her memory was erased – the last thing she remembered was the time she was spending with her mother and father. She was upset to leave her father alone, even when Silas and Marcus are with him. She feels like she is leaving him on his own.

Leo held her hand all the way to Chicago where she is about her new life – but for Leo, he has been through this. He might have lived with her before, he remembered more about their relationship than her, and at some level, he is scared – not of Elizabeth finding her away out of love for him, but for things not going as he plans – because for him it never does. There are always obstacles and hardships. This time there is a minor difference, he has Elizabeth by his side.

Elizabeth is a daughter of a billionaire. She has seen luxuries all her life. Even when she made it on her own for most of the time, her life was still very different from Leo's. Leo never lived in mansions, he never had parents who could spend thousand yet alone millions on him – even when he was a kid. It took him ten years to repair most of his student loans – he is still not fully free from them. There have been times when he survived on frozen pizzas and ramen. This was all normal for him, but Elizabeth – she is different than him.

It worries Leo if she will be able to adjust to a two-bedroom apartment. She will not be just spending some of her time here, this is her home now. Love for your partner isn't the only thing that keeps two people with each other – a lot of different matters take part in it. Being very different from each other, Leo is scared that trying to be as close to each other might drive them apart.

Where Leo ponders over this fact, he couldn't get what Silas told him about Sean. Even when Silas asked him to worry about it – Leo couldn't help but worry. Maria has been through a lot in her life and as his brother, Leo doesn't think he can see her suffer more. She had enough. Silas promised Leo to keep him updated about the situation. If Sean even tried to touch Maria, Leo will end him. He is protective of his sister and wants her to be happy. He is ready to fight anymore who tries to be a barrier to her happiness.

"You are overthinking again," Elizabeth's voice dragged Leo out of his thoughts. Leo has been sitting on his bed that he so badly missed, which he will miss some more because Leo spends more time on his dingy call rooms mattresses than on the one he has at home – and that's another fact that is bothering him. Will Elizabeth be okay with his long absences and uncertain departures for his duty?

Elizabeth chuckled and got off the floor, where she was unpacking, and jumped on the bed. She rested her head on his shoulder and heaved a sigh, "What is going on in your head?" She asked.

Leo smiled and wrapped his arm around her, gently pulling her closer to him. "Why do you think I am overthinking?" He asked amusingly.

Elizabeth rested her head on his shoulder, "Because when you are overthinking, you get this scowl on your face." She mimicked him by screwing up her face in a dramatic scowl. Leo laughed at her. Elizabeth chuckled, "It will give you wrinkles. You are already getting old, Leo. It will be easy to wrinkle your skin," Elizabeth said jokingly.

Leo narrowed his eyes at her while she smirked, "Oh, I am getting old – am I?" He asked slowly.

Elizabeth grinned and nodded her head, "Yes," She replied. "It is time you start using a night cream," She added jokingly.

Leo raised his eyebrow, "Oh, really?" He asked her again to which she nodded her head – trying hard to suppress a smile on her face.

A devious smile stretched on Leo's face as he squinted his eyes. "I will show you how old I am getting," Leo spoke lowly.

Elizabeth knew what was coming next. She tried to jump off the bed, but Leo was too fast for her. She let out a squeal when Leo held her by her feet and dragged her back to him. Elizabeth let out a loud infectious laughter when Leo climber over her – hovering over her. Elizabeth let out a loud bark of laughter when Leo's fingers started to tickle her ribs. And just like that Elizabeth successfully made him forget about whatever he was worried about.

Silas and Marcus had a detailed meeting with the police yesterday. Jared was there too. They went into details of what could be done. The surveillance footage showed a tall man with a black hoodie on and a black mask entering Silas's house from the backdoor. Silas did not doubt that it was Sean, but since his face couldn't be seen, the police can't arrest him on Silas's suspicion. Silas was irritated by this. Jared did say that he will be visiting Sean to investigate it further. If he will have an alibi, Jared will not be able to do much about it.

He was currently looking at the zoomed-in pictures of Sean roaming around Silas's house. Even when he was covered from head to toe – Silas could see through them. It was Sean. Silas's blood was boiling to see how randomly Sean was walking around the house. At one point he walked into Ezra's nursery and took his small stuff toy with him. It was his way of threatening Silas. Silas didn't tell Maria about this. If Maria sees the footage and pictures, she will be paranoid. She is already very protective of Ezra and it is enough for her to know that Sean broke into their house.

"Silas," He quickly shut down his laptop when he heard Maria's voice from outside his office. Hardly a few seconds later, Maria walked in with a sweet smile on her face. "I just put Ezra to sleep," She told him. "You have been working a lot today. You can continue it tomorrow. Come out, we have got to eat dinner," She told him.

Silas lazily smiled at his wife and stretched his arms out for her, "Umm, how about I get a hug first?" He wiggled his eyebrows. Maria couldn't help but chuckle as she shook her head. She walked to him nevertheless. Silas held her hands and help her sit on his lap while he securely put his arms around her. He placed his chin on her shoulder and inhaled her sweet scent. "Can we stay like this forever?" Silas mumbled with his eyes closed.

Maria chuckled, "We can't because one, I am hungry and two, Ezra will be up in an hour – so we better eat before he wakes up," Maria shrugged. She leaned against him and rest her head on his chest.

Silas groaned, "You know what I was thinking?" Silas spoke after a short pause. Maria hummed before he continued, "I was thinking maybe we could go somewhere – like on a honeymoon but with a kid," Silas chuckled. "I am tired of everything. The three of us deserves a break," He spoke.

Maria chuckled, "The three of us need a break?" She asked amusingly.

Silas chuckled, "Well, really the two of us but we can't keep Ezra out of it, right? We are a team." He replied. Maria her head, she agreed – they were a team and they need some time off. "So, what do you say? Should we plan a trip? Just the three of us? Away from all the troubles?" He asked her.

Maria turned her head to look at him. They did need a break. It has been a lot lately. Being a disabled mother has been a lot of work, then she got busy with the baby and her wedding and now all this Sean fiasco. The two of them deserved a break. Maria thinks Silas deserves it more than she does. He has been very stressed lately. She smiled at him, "Sounds nice," She replied. "What place do you have in mind?" She asked.

Silas shrugged, "Any place you want," He replied.

Maria snorted, "Imagine being so rich that you could travel anywhere in the world," She joked to which Silas passed her a dull look. Maria laughed at his expressions. This is what Maria usually does – even now that they are married, she often pulls his leg for being too rich. Silas always reminds her that they are a team and Maria never argues about it with him, but deep inside she knows that this money is not hers. She didn't earn it and even she is a Harrison now, she doesn't think she has any right on Silas's wealth.

"You will never stop with that, will you?" He asked her disappointedly to which Maria grinned – biting her lower lip she shook her head. Silas heaved a sigh, "I guess I will have to live with it," He mumbled under his breath.

Maria chuckled, "I am happy that you have accepted your faith," She poked his nose with her finger.

Silas chuckled and put his hand on her cheek, "I don't mind it as long as I have you written in my faith," He replied. Maria smiled at him. Silas leaned forward and captured her lips with his. It was a short but sweet kiss. Maria slowly pulled away, even when Silas didn't want to. Since they had Ezra, they hardly get time for each other. Maria is often busy with the baby and Silas is often between work and his child. The two of them don't have must time to spend together.

Maria pushed the strings of her hair behind her ear. She kept her gaze down as she cleared her throat. She has been thinking a lot lately – about everything. About Ezra, about Silas and also, about herself. There is something on her mind for a while but she wasn't sure how Silas will take it, especially after the last time they had any sort of discussion about this topic. Maria was unreasonable to him when he brought it up and her word then might have hurt him when they got in an argument, but she also know that he was right.

"I have been thinking about something and I wanted to discuss it with you," Maria said before she looked into his eyes. Silas slowly nodded his head. His eyebrows were pulled together as she waited for her to continue, "I know the last time we talked about it, I was very mean to you." She paused and smashed her lips together, "But you were right," She whispered.

Silas doesn't remember her being mean to him. They have had a few arguments before but that is very common in every relationship. Her words never hurt him. "About what?" He asked. With his one hand, he rubbed her arm, trying to make her feel comfortable and with the other arm, he held her by her waist.

"You were right when you said I needed help," She whispered. She kept her gaze fixed at his shirt's collar and with her finger she played with it. Her eyes were getting misty, she didn't want Silas to see them. But he is Silas – and Maria can never hide anything from him. Silas could see the way her cheeks were turning pink – they always do when she is trying to hold her tears in.

Silas hooked his finger under her chin and made her look into his eyes, "What are you talking about, Maria?" He asked softly – even when he understand what she is talking about.

Maria gulped, "I think I – well, I want to see Dr. Quinn again. I think it is time I resume my treatment. I was being shallow when I fought with you when you suggested I resume my treatment. I want to walk without the crutches again. I want to be a better mother to Ezra – and a better wife to you." She told him.

Silas's hand halted on her arm. He stiffened as he clenched his jaw, "Did someone say anything to you?" Silas asked sternly. Anyone can call him a bad parent, but if someone remarks on his wife's parenting – he will not tolerate it.

Maria quickly shook her head when she saw the anger in his eyes, "No, no one said it. I feel it. I don't want Sandra's help to bathe Ezra. I want to hold him and walk back and forth to make him sleep as you do. I want to cook in the kitchen for you. I want to be more productive – I want to work. There is so much that I want to do, but I can't – because honestly, I am scared. I am scared that I will drop Ezra if I hold him. I am scared that I will hurt myself in the kitchen if I try to cook. I thought I would be able to accept this – the way I am now – but in the back of my mind, I know that I can get better if I get help. I am just ignoring it and I am not doing it on purpose and it makes me feel shitty." She replied. A tear left her eye as Silas's eyes get glossy. It hurt him to know how much Maria has been struggling.

"So, I want you to call Dr. Quinn and book an appointment – I want to give this a try – one last try. For you and my child – for my family, I want to give this another try." She told him with a smile. Silas opened his mouth but Maria beat him to it, "You book me an appointment, and then we will go on that honeymoon you were talking about, yeah? And when we come back – I will start my treatment again," She added.

Silas couldn't utter a word without breaking down so instead, he embraced Maria in a tight hug. He was told that she could get better if she give the treatment another try, but Maria refused when he brought it up. She told him that she had given it up long ago and she doesn't want to try again even when there is a chance, but now that she agrees to it, Silas couldn't help but feel extremely proud of his wife for trying again.
