《Harrisons - The Last Chapter》Chapter Seventeen: Building Trust, Repairing Relations.

Maria's heart dropped by the words that escaped Silas's mouth. She hold Ezra tightly – hugging him dearly – as if it was him in danger, not her. If she is being completely honest, it is her son's safety that she is more scared of. She slowly blinked and looked down at her son peacefully sleeping in her arms. She is a mother now. Even if she didn't birth him from her womb, she could feel the motherhood kicking in her. Maybe they all were right, it just takes a woman to accept that she is a mother – regardless of if she gave birth or not, to feel an urge to fight the world to protect her child. That is how Maria felt at that moment, she gulped difficulty and held to Ezra tightly – she will fight everyone to save her son – everyone.
"Listen to me, Maria – hey, listen to me." Silas held her flushed face in his hand – gently caressing her cheeks with his thumb. She was in shock. They were she was holding Ezra to her, she was also scared. Silas couldn't see this. This is why he never told Maria what Sean has been up to for the past couple of months. Maria slowly looked at her husband with glossy big eyes, "I promise you, Maria. I will die before I let anyone hurt you or Ezra. This is my promise to you. There is nothing in this world I wouldn't fight to make sure that you two are safe and secure." Silas promised.
Maria slowly blinked. A fat tear dropped from the corner of her eye as she stared back at him, "Don't die." She whispered. She slowly shook her head. Her heart was racing so fast in her chest, that it make Ezra fuss in his sleep. "Don't die, please." She let out a sob. Silas didn't think twice before embracing his wife in a hug. Ezra didn't wake up. Why would he? He was peacefully snuggled between his father and mother – who are ready to lose all just to make sure he is secure.
In Marcus and Charlie's house, Charlie walked back and forth in her room. It is supposed to be their wedding night but from what Marcus just told her – thinking about her wedding night was the last thing in her mind. She was panicking. Sean broke into Silas and Maria's new house. She felt a shiver run down her spine. "We can't let him hurt, you hearing me, Marcus?" Charlie turned to look at Marcus with her teary eyes, "We can't." She whispered as tears fell off her eyes.
Marcus clicked his tongue and walked to her. He put his arms around her to her rest her forehead on his chest, "We will not let Sean do anything, Charlie." He replied softly as he rubbed her back, "Silas and I are making sure that Sean gets caught. We are involving the police as well. I didn't tell you to panic like this, baby." He spoke softly before kissing the top of her head.
Charlie wrapped her arms around Marcus's waist and tightly closed her eyes. "Why can't we live normal lives, Marcus? Why do have to have one problem after another? I was so happy. Everything was finally following in place." She sniffled as she rested her wet cheek on his chest – listening to his heartbeat.
Marcus slowly pulled away from her and took her face in his hands, "Everything will be okay, Charlie. I promise you this. Sean can't do anything." He told her.

Charlie looked into his eyes, "He broke into her house, Marcus." She painfully reminded him.
Marcus clenched his jaws, "And he will pay for it." He told her.
This was the last straw for Silas. He has to involve the authorities now. He didn't think Sean was anything more than just talks but now that he broke into his house – or made someone else break in – Silas had enough for him to take every step possible. And to protect his wife and child, he had to ask for help from his father.
It was hard for Silas to force Maria to sleep, but she didn't do it if Ezra was sleeping in his cot, so they made him sleep in the middle of his parents on the bed. Silas made sure that Maria gets to rest even when he hardly even blinked the entire night. Even though Maria woke up at every hour, checking up on Ezra and Silas – she did manage to get some sleep, unlike Silas.
In the morning, he dropped Maria, Ezra, and Bear with Charlie, who was now aware of the whole fiasco as well. Charlie ensured Silas that she will look after Maria and Ezra while he and Marcus visit their father. It was also the day, Elizabeth was moving back to Chicago – but after what happened last night, Silas couldn't think much about it. He and Marcus planned to see-off Elizabeth without her knowing about what is happening – or else she will be worried and might as well not leave. It was important for Silas to let his little sister carry on with her life as well – especially after the incident in which she was brutally injured.
Marcus has already taken off for a few days because of the wedding, so he was not bothered to come along with his brother to the office nor was Charlie – she was happy to spend some time with Maria. She has been very worried since Marcus told her everything.
Even when Sean directs no harm towards Charlie and her children, Marcus has been very paranoid and made sure that the security around him and Silas's house is tight. He also asked Charlie not to leave the house without him. Marcus has always been very protective of his family, but now that the threat has gotten so real – he is making sure no one gets hurt in the process.
"Did you eat anything, Maria?" Charlie asked her best friend, who sat with her head bowed. Maria rubbed her temples – trying to ease the headache. Maria heaved a sigh and shook her head before she looked at Charlie who sat beside her. Charlie put her arm around Maria, "You are okay, Maria. Just relax. Silas and Marcus will figure this out." She tried to console Maria, who had tears filled in her eyes.
Maria snuffled, "God knows where else has he followed me, Charlie. Do you have any idea what kind of danger was Ezra exposed to? And Kathie and Ella? We had them with us when we went shopping for the wedding. What if Sean had hurt our children?" Maria sobbed as she placed her hand on her chest.
Charlie gulped, "Maria, Silas had those bodyguards following us for a reason. We didn't get it then, but it all makes sense now. He was protecting us. Don't worry, okay? Everyone is alright. That Sean can't hurt anyone," Charlie gritted through her teeth.
She recalls the time when she first met Sean. He came out as a sweet and caring man – but Charlie couldn't be more wrong. People can be deceiving – so were Sean and Elna. The siblings were nothing but a ploy. First Elna tried to get to Marcus and now Sean is obsessing over Maria. Charlie wishes for the sibling to just disappear from their lives.

Maria sniffled and wiped her cheeks. She glanced at Ezra sleeping in the bouncer with Bear laying beside him – protecting his little human. Maria's heart clenched in her chest when she think about Bear. He was alone in the house when Sean must have broken in. What if he hurt the dog? If anything had happened to Bear – Maria wouldn't have been about to forgive herself. Bear is like a family to her.
"Come on, let's cook something because Kathie and Ella wake up." Charlie tried to encourage Maria. She is trying to make her mind divert from everything. Maria smiled at the mention of the girls and nodded her head. Maybe it will be wise to try to distract herself from everything or else she might just lose her mind.
In the kitchen, Charlie wipes up the eggs while Maria helps in cutting the fruits for Kathie's snack, "I am sorry for ruining your newly married days, Charlie." Maria spoke to Charlie as she placed the knife on the cutting board. Charlie pinched her eyebrows together and turned to look at Maria, who was sitting on the kitchen stool by the counter. Maria guilty looked at Charlie, who was about to say something when Maria interrupted her, "I know what you are going to say," Maria paused, "But whatever you say – it doesn't change the fact that you were waiting for your wedding for ages and just like last time – I ruined it again for you." Maria added.
"Honestly, I don't even feel like a newly wedded. We were already living together. We already have a family together. We just made it official. The only difference is that now I have a wedding band on my finger along with my engagement ring." She told Maria. "And you didn't ruin anything, so don't you dare repeat those words in front of me." Charlie jabbed her finger at Maria.
"Fuck me, what is he doing here?" Silas mumbled to Marcus as the brothers watched Leo waiting for Silas outside his office. Silas wasn't expecting him – not when he and Elizabeth are supposed to leave for Chicago tonight. He didn't have time to be confined by his scary brother-in-law now. When Silas's assistant came to tell him about Leo's arrival – he was surprised. He didn't think Leo would come to see him to his office.
Marcus shrugged, "I don't know. I don't think I have ever seen him come to your office before. Maybe it is urgent." Marcus pulled his eyebrows together, "I hope Elizabeth's okay." He added.
Silas heaved a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose, "You go on and talk to dad, I will be with you in a couple of fo minutes." He told Marcus before he strode towards Leo. Leo had his head down while his eyes were fixed on his cellphone in his hands. When he heard Silas walking towards him, he lifted his head and placed the phone back in his pocket before he stood up.
Silas forced a smile, "Hey Leo, what brought you here? Everything okay?" He asked – trying to sound as casual as he could. Silas didn't have time to be intimidated by his brother-in-law right now – he has more urgent matters to deal with.
Leo smashed his lips together. He had a scowl on his face like he always does when he faces Silas. But it was something else that ticked Silas off, Leo seemed a little nervous – which never happens. Leo traced his tongue through his dried lips, "I need to talk to you," Leo told Silas before he glanced at one of Silas's employees, who walked past them, "In private. Do you think you have time?" Leo asked.
Even when Silas wanted to tell him no, he decided to listen to him and nodded his head. Silas lead Leo into his office and as soon as they were away from everyone, Leo spoke. "I heard you and Marcus yesterday," He said. His words didn't make sense to Silas, who slowly closed the door and knitted his eyebrows together. "I am sorry, what?" Silas asked.
Leo blew his cheeks as he frustratedly ran his fingers through his hair. He seemed quite stressed. "Yesterday, when you and Marcus were talking about Sean before the ceremony. I heard it all." He clarified.
Silas's eyes widened, "How?" He couldn't help but ask Leo. He made sure that there was no one else in the room.
Leo flared his nostrils, "I was in the washroom." He answered. Silas wanted to smash himself. He checked the room but didn't think about checking the washroom. It was bad enough that Leo doesn't think Silas is capable of his sister, now that he knows about the threat Sean brings – Leo will only hate him more.
Silas placed his hand on his hip and rubbed his temple with his other hand, "Look Leo, I am taking –" Silas tried to explain but Leo didn't let him continue.
"How bad is it?" Leo quickly asked. "I need to know if my sister is safe. I want to complete truth," Silas could see the desperation in Leo's eyes. He could see the concern – the worry.
Silas exhaled and told Leo everything. There was nothing left to hide. The more he will hide, the more worried Leo will be for Maria. Silas told him about Sean's obsession with Maria. How he is trying to get to her and how he is determined to get her – even if she doesn't want to. Silas explained to Leo about the guards he had hired who followed Maria. Silas ensured him that he was doing everything he can to keep Sean away from his family. Silas didn't first tell Leo about what happened last night, but he couldn't keep it a secret from him anymore, so told him about the break-in incident as well.
"That motherfucker," Leo cursed when Silas told him about the note Sean left for Maria. Leo clenched his jaws and curled his hands into fists, "I am going to kill him," Leo added aggressively.
Silas gulped, "We are involving police into this as well now. I promise you, Leo, I will protect your sister with everything I have. Even if I have to die for her – I will. Just trust me, I will not let anything hurt her again." Silas quickly spoke and he meant every word he said. He had his eyes glossed by just the ill-thought of losing Maria again.
Leo glared at Silas. Silas was prepared to be punched or be threatened by Leo. He had every right to – after all, it was his mother's fault why Sean is in their lives anyways. Silas bowed his head – he couldn't look into Leo's eyes. "Don't you dare die, Silas," Leo spoke.
Silas's eyes widened as he jerked his head to look at Leo – staring at him with his eyebrows knitted, "You mean the world to my sister. And you are a good father to my nephew – and as much as it hurts me to say it but you are appearing to be a good husband to Maria now, so don't put yourself in danger. Don't do anything stupid. And don't take matters into your own hand. Get help from the police. Just bring that asshole down. If you need me – I will be there to help as much as I can. Just don't let him hurt my sister or my nephew." Leo might have spoken sternly, but Silas doesn't think he had ever talked like this to Silas before.
Being called a good father and husband was swelling his heart in his chest, but Silas didn't show it on his face. He only dumbfoundedly nodded his head. Letting Leo speak to him like this was hard for Silas to process but at the same time, it lifted the burden off his shoulder. The fact that Leo was trusting him was a big step and he will not let this trust in him break.

I will not be eaten
Litchi is your ordinary Royal Road addict. She can’t resist the call of a new chapter even when she needs to work. Because of too many new responsibilities she promises one week without reading. Sadly, she cracks in three days, because of an Azarinth Healer notification. Taking out her phone she starts avidly reading. It’s just a small promise, she will try it another time. Nothing should happen. Say that to the goblin that tries to eat your face, Litchi! You should keep your promise! She was used to food jokes on her name but it seems that this time her destiny is to be eaten. ---- Hello future reader! I didn’t find a new good isekai so why not create my own? I am an RR addict and amateur writer (in French) and today I decided to publish a story. You will have my eternal gratitude for any advice or constructive comments on the story! One of my objectives is to have developed characters, duo or trio make a fantastic way to character growth. So, I will try to create a deep relationship between a few of them. The first few chapters have a lot of combat, but other characters will soon arrive. Those first few chapters are made to build tension and create Litchi's first motivations. This story has the plot written to the end and important characters already shaped. This story is short in comparison to the majority of RR fantasy stories. Update every two days until I have no more chapters in my pocket. Average chapter length: 2200 words Warning: The grammar can be bad, IMPORTANT CHARACTERS CAN (Will) DIE, contain philosophical conversation as the characters stumble upon morals dilemmas. I hope I will see you soon in the comments and thank you in advance for reading Litchi’s journey. Have a nice day! :)

That which made their home the lost places of this world.” She folded the letter with a shuddering breath and stared back in the direction from where the noise reverberated through the halls. It was of stone doors shattering one by one. The chances of getting out safely were all but gone. The letter in her hand was all warning they would have. It dropped into one of the Wells and all that could be done now was hope it was found in time, if at all. -- This was my very first large story. ;) I started writing it years ago. Was fun, was difficult, but in the end, it is a story I hope that will inspire. The prologue is in first person perspective and the rest of the story in 3d. Just a little heads-up :P It is a fantasy epic with a contemporary twist for the start. The first arc of the novel is set inside our modern world, but as the mysterious events around Calin intensifies, the hidden secrets in the world start to become more fantastical. The story follows Calin, a young orphan in search of answers. But, the answers he seeks will change his life and that of his friends forever, for the secrets that caused his situation have far greater ramifications than the small village of Lamb's Crest could have known. Remember to leave ratings and reviews. I'm quite interested in hearing your thoughts on the story. ;) Enjoy reading, Omri Hope
