《Harrisons - The Last Chapter》Chapter Three: Ella

"She is very emotional – she has been crying all day," Marcus told Maria as he sat on the couch. Maria chuckled, "Why?" she asked. Marcus shrugged, "Because Ella wouldn't stop crying and that freaked Charlie out – I have been trying to tell her that it is normal but she just doesn't listen and worries if Ella was in pain or if something is wrong with her," Marcus answered Maria. "Well, I took Ella and rocked her to sleep. Charlie finally slept as well – she needed to rest. She has slept properly since Ella was born," He added. Maria chuckled again and pointed her thumb towards Ezra who was throwing his fist and tiny feet up in the air, "Same happened with Silas when Ezra wouldn't stop crying – he rushed to the ER." Maria replied to Marcus. Marcus laughed, "I remembered," He said. Maria lightly shook her head, "He even threatened the doctor – and Ezra was just hungry," She added. "So, it is okay – just give Charlie a little time to adjust to the new changes. She is just overwhelmed," Maria told him. Marcus smiled and nodded his head.
It has been a week since Marcus and Charlie welcomed their daughter, Ella, into the world. She is adorable but she got a temper, like her mother. Kathie has been excited to have a little sister to play with and is very careful of her baby sister. This new bundle of joy has brought a lot of cheery moments into Marcus and Charlie's life – but the tension between Charlie and Marcus was still there. It might have gotten a little better as they haven't fought about Elna since Ella came but Marcus could tell that Charlie didn't forget about it yet and one of these days he will talk to her about everything – he has to. He wasn't going to let this tension between them grow. On the other hand, Marcus did receive a call from where Elna must have gone for an interview – they were asking questions about her and since Marcus agreed to help her out – he recommended her to them. He is not planning to help her more and once all this ends – he was going to come clean to Charlie and tell her how he helped Elna get a job – he didn't want to lie to the love of his life anymore. It was already painful enough for him to see Charlie upset with her.
Marcus has taken off from work for two weeks – he was only going to work from home that too if it was extremely necessary – he needed some time off to spend it with his family. Now, the baby was here and everything was well with her and Charlie – they can finally start planning on when they should move to their new house. He needed to talk about it to Charlie but she has been so occupied with Ella and Kathie that he hardly finds any time to sit down with her and just talk. He knew from the very beginning that once the baby will arrive they will get lesser time for them to spend with each other but still, he misses being with Charlie – alone. Maria was staying with Charlie for a week but since Marcus has taken off – she returned to her place with her father Franklin. Charlie and Marcus didn't find it fair that she will be there to help out Charlie when she had Ezra and Silas. And then, she is getting married in a month so, that only adds up to her burden.

Marcus checked on Kathie to see that she was taking her afternoon nap in her room. She was exhausted from playing with Bear all day when Maria was here, and now she needed to sleep. Marcus then entered his room to see Ella peacefully sleeping in her crib that was by their bed and on the bed slept, Charlie. He softly closed the door behind him and slowly walked towards Charlie – who had a baby monitor in her hand while she was softly snoring. Marcus softly chuckled. He remembered how loud she was snoring at the end of her pregnancy – he never told her because that would have embarrassed her and she gets embarrassed so easily. He sat by her side and with his fingers he softly pushed the hair off her face and smiled as creases appeared on her forehead, "I love you so much," He said and softly kissed her forehead – making sure that she doesn't wake up. Marcus, then stood on his feet and stepped towards Ella's crib – he looked in to see that Ella was awake but yet she wasn't crying or making any noise – her big round eyes met Marcus's and she immediately stretched her hand out – reaching for her father. Marcus smiled and slowly took Ella in his arms, "Here is my girl," he whispered to his daughter – making sure that his voice doesn't wake Charlie up.
Ella blinked and kept looking at her father. Marcus wanted to spend some time with her so, he glanced at Charlie who tossed in her sleep and decided to take Ella out. He slowly stepped out of the room with Ella in his arms. He walked into Kathie's room and sat on the rocking chair. He remembers that when Kathie was born and he was alone – he didn't know how to take care of his baby. He used to sit on the same chair and would rock Kathie to sleep. He knows how Charlie is feeling – he gets it that she is scared. He was too when he had Kathie but he has been trying to know that with Kathie he was alone but, with Ella – she is not and she will never be either. He was miserable up until Charlie came alone and he doesn't want her to feel that way – he wants her to know that he is here with her from the very beginning – he is here to make her life easier like she made his.
Ella was looking into her father's eyes. Marcus smiled and softly placed a kiss on her forehead, "Ella, dada loves you so much and dada wants you to know that he will always be there for you and Kathie," He paused and glanced at his elder daughter who was sound asleep, "Your dada will always be there for you when you need him. You, Kathie, and your mama are my world – welcome to our paradise, sweetheart," Marcus whispered. He teared up as he looked at Ella and Kathie – he was so lucky to have three beautiful girls in his life. He sniffled, "Also, you are not allowed to date until you are fifty. I had this talk with your elder sister when she was born, and now I have it with you. So, do we have a deal?" Marcus asked as he took his pinky finger out for a pinky swear and just then Ella reached out for his finger and held it in her tiny hands. A grin spread on his face, "That's my girl – you promised now you can't take your words back," Marcus said and was surprised when he heard a chuckle.

Marcus turned his head to see that Charlie was standing at the door with a smile on her face. "That is not fair, Marcus. She doesn't understand you now – try having this conversation when she is older," Charlie pointed out as she walked in the room. Marcus narrowed his eyes, "We will never have this conversation again – she will not date until she is fifty and that's it. There is nothing to discuss." Marcus said sternly. Charlie chuckled and raised her hands in the air – surrendering to him. Charlie knew that there wasn't any point to argue with Marcus about it. He is a possessive man – he wasn't going to listen and also, this conversation could wait – there were more important things to talk about. "Alright, fine." Charlie smiled and sat beside Kathie who was still asleep – she has always been a heavy sleeper. Charlie pulled the blanket up to Kathie's shoulder. "Maybe we should step outside and let Kathie sleep – she will be up soon anyway." Charlie said and looked at Marcus before she continued, "Maybe we should talk about some things," She added. Marcus knew what she was talking about and nodded his head in agreement. He got up on his feet with Ella still in his arms. Ella had started falling asleep while he was rocking his chair back and forth. Till Charlie and Marcus walked back to their room – Ella was asleep.
Charlie looked at Ella and smiled, "Let me put her back in her crib," She said. Marcus glanced at her daughter in his arm before he nodded and gave her to Charlie. Charlie put Ella in the crib and made sure that she was sleeping and was properly covered before she turned around and sighed. Marcus stood hardly a few feet away – he felt like a small child ready to be scolded by his disapproving mother – exactly what used to happen with him. Charlie smashed her lips together before she spoke, "There is no much tension between us, Marcus – it is hard for me to stay mad at you." She paused before she walked closer to him and held his hand in hers. Marcus didn't wait to tightly grab onto Charlie's hands as well, "But I am scared, Marcus." She whispered to him as her eyes teared up. "I so scared that Elna is going to steal you away from me," She added. Marcus shook his head, "Charlie, no one can ever take me away from you. I promise you this. I love you, sweetheart." He said and put his hands on both sides of her face. "You are everything to me and I swear – nothing could take me away from you except for death," He said. Charlie closed her eyes and let the tear fell from her eyes before she opened them and lightly shook her head, "Please, don't talk about death. I can never lose you," She whispered. Marcus smiled, "I know. And neither can I." he replied. "So, can we please stop fighting? I am sorry I didn't tell you about Elna but Charlie, I have only been helping her to find a job and that's it. I swear, I have always been faithful to you and I always will be. Please, forgive me." He asked.
Charlie snuffled and held his hand on her face and spoke, "I am ready to forgive you but only on one condition," Marcus nodded his head, "Anything," he said. "Promise me that you will never talk to Elna again. You will never see her again and if she ever tries to contact you again – you will let me, please, Marcus – never lie to me." She asked softly as more tears fell from her eyes. Marcus looked into her eyes – he didn't tell her about the meeting he had with Elna but he can promise that he will never see her again nor will he ever talk to him because that was what he had in his mind. He had already helped her enough – Marcus was ready to be selfish for him and his family. Marcus nodded his head, "I promise," He replied before he hugged her. He closed his eyes and rested his chin on her head before he placed a kiss on the top of her head. It has to be so long since he hugged her like this. He didn't want to fight with her anymore. Charlie sniffled and pulled away before she wiped the tears off her face, "There is something else I wanted to talk about," She added. Marcus smiled and put his hand around her before he softly kissed her nose, "I am all ears, madam." He smiled.
Charlie smiled back and exhaled. Marcus could tell that she was nervous. Marcus brought his eyebrows together, "What is it?" He asked. Charlie looked into his eyes before she spoke, "Marcus, now that Ella is here – don't you think that we should think about getting married?" She said. A slow grin stretched on Marcus's face, "My – my, Miss Charlotte McGill – are you asking me to marry you?" Marcus joked. Charlie narrowed her eyes before she rolled them, "I think I have to refresh your memory, you have already asked me to marry you, Mr. Marcus Harrison." She replied to which Marcus chuckled and nodded his head before he held her left hand in his and looked at the engagement ring she was wearing. "Well, I think it is time to change a few things," He said. Charlie smiled, "What things?" She asked. "I guess, it is time to change this engagement ring to a wedding band and your name from Charlotte McGill to Charlotte McGill Harrison," He said. Charlie tittered, "I would love these changes," She replied. Marcus chuckled and brought her closer, "I love you, Char." He said before he pressed his lips against hers. It has been so long since he kissed her – even though she has always been around her – he still missed her.
Elna has been trying to call Marcus for the past few hours but he wasn't answering. She tried it one more time before she frustratingly slammed her cellphone on the bar and ordered another drink. Sean sat beside his sister and shook his head, "Do you think that he is going to answer your calls?" He question. Elna glared at her brother who hasn't been a part of her life for the past six years. After ignoring her and their sick mother for six years, he finally decided to contact her. Elna only came here to meet him so that he would stop bothering her so much. "Why did you want to see me, Sean?" She asked. Sean smiled as he slipped the wine, "Why? Can't a brother ask to meet his sister?" He asked. Elna sniggered, "You should think twice before you call yourself a brother, Sean." She said. "You abandoned me and mom and flee with your son to God knows where and now that mom is dead – you came back, and now you calling yourself a brother." She sheered before she sniggered again, "That's funny." She added sourly. The smile on Sean's face disappeared before he sniffled and sighed, "I am not here to discuss our family dramas, Elna. I am here to help you," He cut to the chase.
Elna rolled her eyes, "I hardly doubt that you can ever help me, Sean." She replied. Sean paused and kept looking at the glass of wine before she looked at Elna, "I know why you came back to New York. I know you still have feelings for Marcus and he is doing nothing but ignoring you. You tried to reach for him by asking him to help you and like a true gentleman – he did help you but I am telling you, Elna, that is all you are going to get from him – if you kept playing like you are," Sean said. Elna was stunned to hear each word that came out of her brother's mouth because they were true. Sean smiled when Elna failed to reply. He nodded, "Since you are not going to talk – let me add something. I want Maria," he stated clearly. "I know she and Silas adopted a child but that child isn't hers so who cares, right?" He shrugged. "I want Maria and you want Marcus," he added. Elna was completely silent. She took her time to reply, "He-he is with Charlie," She replied softly – her heart still breaks when she thinks about him without another woman. Sean sniggered and shrugged, "Who cares? I am telling you this that if we play smart – I can get Maria and you can have Marcus, believe me." He spoke slowly. Elna stared at her brother. That smile on his face was unsettling – even for her.
