《The Guy Named Harrison: Book One》38

Carrie watched him drive to practice, and couldn't help but giggle as another car passed them and shot him an odd look.
Normally, people never looked at him like that. Most stared in awe at him, while others glanced at him and conversed about how hot he was. Today, they had an excuse.
He was driving arguably the nicest car on the road, with all the windows down and music blasting, while wearing a Captain America costume Cam dropped off yesterday.
"You are something else Harrison."
She saw him flash her a smile under the mask he was wearing. "You said it yourself, I'm Captain America now."
Carrie rested her hand on her forehead with a small smile creeping across her face. Another car passed them with the passenger looking at him rather oddly. She couldn't help but playfully roll her eyes.

After finding a parking spot and parking the car, Harrison got out of the drivers side wearing his full Captain America costume. He then reached in the backseat and slung his bag over his shoulder before grabbing his shield.
Carrie had her own bag rested comfortably on her shoulders as she followed him into the Panthers practice facility.
On the way in, they passed plenty of fans shouting his name and asking for autographs while some took pictures of him wearing the costume and holding the shield.
"I need a cape," he randomly blurted out.
"Captain America doesn't wear a cape."
"But I'm the new rendition of Captain America. Therefore, I need a cape."
Carrie just laughed. "Chris Evans better take notes. Before we know it Captain America will be wearing blue, white, grey and black," he continued.
They continued walking with him every so often stopping and posing for the fans. "I didn't know Captain America stopped for pictures."

Harrison smiled under the mask. "Oh he does. He needs to boost his fan club."
She rolled her eyes again. By now the crowd had stopped calling for autographs, and was chanting his name. "I really need a cape."
It was early October, which meant it was getting colder in North Carolina. Cold enough that most people begun to wear a sweatshirt and pants.
He spotted a few fans standing in the very front row with a blanket draped over their shoulders. Harrison jogged over and climbed up the wall. He was immediately rewarded with cameras flashing in his face. "Can I borrow this?"
The blanket was pretty much thrown at him. "Thanks."
Harrison jumped down and let the blanket fly in the wind behind him before pinching two ends together just below his neck. He tossed his shield up in the air and caught it.
Carrie watched him go with a smile, knowing this was going to be all over SportsCenter, and people were going to have a laugh.
They reached the practice facility where he posed for one last picture. Then he pressed a quick kiss to her lips, getting the crowd to "ooh" and "ahh."
Harrison spun her around and grabbed a pen she kept in the side pocket of her bag. He signed the blanket and handed it to her to give back to those fans. "Thanks."
"Have a good practice Captain America."
He smiled and ran inside to the locker room.
❺❾
All during practice and even after practice, the guys continued to tease him about the Captain America costume. Including Cam.
"You weren't so Captain America when Christian juked the hell out of you today," Cam said as he passed by.
Harrison smiled. "Superman isn't too perfect either. Let's see, how many times did I pick you off today?" He put a hand to his ear. "How about three?"

Cam simply laughed and continued on. Practice was over now, meaning the fans were allowed to get a little closer to the practice field. And the players usually signed autographs.
Harrison pulled his blue practice jersey over his head and tossed it next to his helmet. Wearing a white Nike long sleeve shirt and sweatpants with his light Carolina blue colored shoulder pads, he jogged over to sign a few autographs.
Fans crowded against the wall that separated the field from the bleachers where they would sit and watch practice. He tried to start at a different place every time to try and meet new people.
The wall was about 8 feet high. So there was a small walkway installed about 3 feet above the ground to allow the players to meet fans at eye level.
As soon as he jumped up on the walkway, fans began shouting his name and attempted to hand him something to sign. That ranged from jerseys, bobble heads, footballs, t-shirts, and replica helmets.
"Harrison! Can you sign this please!?"
He took the first football handed his way and quickly scribbled his autograph before moving onto the next. And to the next helmet. And jersey.
As he moved down the line, his hand became tired from all the signing. "Mr. Harrison, can you please sign my jersey?"
It took him a few seconds to find out where the young voice came from. When he heard it for a second time, he found a little girl standing directly in front of him. "Sure. Where do you want me to sign?"
"On the back please."
She spun around and Harrison smiled when he saw his last name and number on her jersey. "That's a nice jersey you have there."
"Thank you."
He signed right in the middle of the five. "There you go."
"Thank you Harrison!"
"You're welcome."
He loved making a day for a little kid. Just the way they smiled after getting his autograph made him so happy.
"Can we get a picture?" Someone else asked.
Harrison posed for a picture with another fan. That was something he got asked a lot as well. Every day after signing autographs, he would check Instagram to see a ton of photos taken of him from after practice.
"Harrison!"
He reached into the crowd and was handed a Captain America bobble head. "And can we get a picture too?"
With a nod, he signed the top of the bobble head and held it in a picture with the fan. "Thank you!"
"No problem."

Forced Development (What does it truly mean to live a fulfilling life?)
To get things started I would like to admit that this story does not bring much new to the table when it comes to the over-saturated Litrpg genre in terms of things like mechanics and power systems. Then what exactly am I trying to bring to the table with this work? A nice slow-paced novel about people maturing and growing older think of it as the re: zero or jobless reincarnation of Litrpgs. A story that tries to take into consideration how a worldwide system would affect the economics and culture of a world. A story that is much more character-focused than the typical heavy progression-focused novels this genre is known for. The RPG system, like any good power system, is there to actually explore the themes of the story and not just as a plot device for characters to get stronger. This is a story where we will see the growth of the Mc from being a baby to when he dies of old age. With plenty of heart-racing actions and intriguing plot developments along the way. Exploring themes like; What does it mean to improve at something and what does it mean to mature as a person? How does magic, the constant threat of monsters and people so much stronger than the average joe that they can destroy countries affect one's culture both on the micro and the macro scale? How people are affected by the culture in general? Generational trauma Nature vs Nurture Talent vs hard work What is morality, society, and people's opinions on both? What does it mean to be human and what does it mean to be alive in the context of a world with multiple sapient species vastly different from one another in basic biology? All these questions are going to be explored from multiple angles using the system as a catalyst for those discussions. So if any of does questions sound interesting to you what are you waiting for, I'm sure you are going to love this story. PS - Chapter come out every Friday at about the same time.
