Jack was able to accomplish a lot in three days. New rules were established and just to make sure the pack was on his side, he had the pack vote on them. No one objected. Jack also set up a new guard schedule for the pack house. Additional guards would be assigned to various areas of the pack house to monitor for intruders and mistreatment of pack members. He even went so far as to re-name the pack to the Blue River Mountain Pack. A little lengthy but needed in hopes to unite the two packs.

We had settled into our new suite. Samuel and Gideon were instant friends. Seth had made a couple of friends and Daniel was smitten with Sariah. Felix had already taken Sariah shopping and filled her closet full of clothes. And shoes. And bows, hair thingies, and necklaces with glitter. Lots and lots of glitter.

It was my second day at the pack hospital and it felt good...right. I had forgotten how much I missed treating weres.

Unfortunately, today was the day Beta Dane was scheduled to return.

I hope this works Jack. I don't want a civil war. He will have dinner with me and Felix tonight. I would like you to attend.

I tell him.

My shift was almost over and the pups were sitting in the waiting room for me to finish. Until things settled down with the pack, I planned to have them with me as much as possible.

I heard an angry voice from the waiting room, "GET OUT OF THE WAY YOU MUTT!" I started to run towards the doors when I heard Gideon's scream out "DADDY!"

I scream linking to them.

I turn the corner to see a huge man cowering over Sariah. She was on the ground, sobbing, with her hands over her head. Gideon was hitting the man's leg with his fists.

Instantly, I start running towards the bastard. Shifting in med-air, I aim my head straight at his torso hearing him grunt when his ass slams onto the floor. I was no Alpha, but my wolf could fight. I positioned myself over Sariah and pushed Gideon behind me with my snout. The man jumps back up and glares at me. I can see his canines start to push through.

Hearing familiar howls from the hallway, I knew Jack and Felix were almost here. The man gave out a loud growl and crouched down to shift. Jack, Felix, and two warriors came barging through the doors in wolf form. I continued to stare at him. I bore my canines and gave a vicious growl warning him to say away.

From the corner of my eye, I could see Jack shift back. Felix and the warriors stayed in wolf form.

"BETA...STAND DOWN!" He roared at the man.

Beta? What the hell...

The man stood up and retracted his canines unable to disobey an Alpha's order. He and Jack glared at each other. Felix and the warriors stayed crouch down with their canines exposed ready to attack at Jack's command.

Looking back towards him I finally got a good look at the man. He was only a few inches shorter than Jack but his muscles were huge. His shirt was tight and sleeveless. Tattoos nearly covered every inch of his arms. Hair, the color of mud and cut to the skin on both sides and longer on top. Bright blues eyes and a straight nose. He was a formidable sight.

My whole body felt hot and I trembled realizng that asshole standing in-front of me was Beta Dane. Beta Dane. Beta or not, NO ONE hurts my pups...I'm going to kill the bastard. I bent my legs ready to attack but Jack's voice blasting through the link stops me.

I could not disobey Jack. I growled once more and shifted. Not caring that I was naked or that he was bigger than me, I walked over to the Beta and punched him in the face. I heard a crack and knew I had broken his nose. His body reeled backwards landing him on the ground again. Blood seeped through fingers he was holding up to his nose.

Bending down, I grabbed his shirt collar and pulled his face closed to mine only to be hit with the smell of pine and orange. My heart began to race faster and my body felt on fire. The last time I felt this way was when I met my mate...OH HELL NO!

Mate! Katon shouted to me.

This was not happening. The moon goddess could not so cruel. First, my mate is taken from me. And now, this sad piece of shit for a wolf is my new mate.

Ignoring my body's instinct to be physically close to him, essentially mate with the ass-hat, I glared at him and seethed, "Stay the hell away from my pups. If you so much as look in their direction, I will end you!" I let go of his collar with a push and turn towards my pups. The two warrior wolves were standing together making a wall between the boys and Beta Dane. Felix had wrapped himself around Sariah licking her cheeks.

Felix shifted and picked up Sariah. I picked up Gideon and Seth and started towards my room.

I left two wolves growling at my apparent mate and Jack screaming at him to get up.
