《The Tracking ✔》Chapter 43-Recovery and Decisions

The last thing I remember was diving face first into the grass with the feeling of hot lava pouring in the wound on my neck.
Then, the pain was gone. I woke up next in my bed with no one in sight, but I faintly heard the sound of mate in the bathroom.
I move slightly and the bed creaks under my weight. I feel heavier and stronger, although the back of my neck hurts pretty bad.
JC comes from the bathroom and rushes to my side instantly after I had barely moved. "How are you feeling?"
"Sore." I say trying to sit up, but let out a groan of pain.
JC helps me up and I rest my head against the headboard. JC looks at the back of my neck, "It looks fine. It's healing okay."
I nod and look at her to see if she's alright. The last time I saw her was when we were watching each other through the window.
She appears rested, but looks like she has so much on her mind. I push a piece of hair behind her ear. Her face looks a little red from crying, but I can't see any tears.
"What's up? Are the rogues closer?" I ask. Last time I checked the rogues were assembling about thirty-miles away.
"No, they seemed to retreat." She says with hope in her eyes. "Do you feel any different?" She asks, changing the subject.
"I feel a little different, but mostly tired. Did Kelsia say it was a success?" I ask and watch as JC's face changes to dread.
"Yes. It was a success." Her voice cracks and she looks down, placing her hand in mine.
"Did something go wrong?" I ask with suspicion. JC isn't hiding it very well if something did.
"This isn't easy to say. So I'm just going to say it. Kelsia died, about a hour and half ago." She blurts out, and watches my face for a reaction.
"How?" I asked slowly. If a rogue got to her I-
"The spell she used to turn you. It drained her, there was nothing any of us could have done for her." JC looks away and tries not to cry.
"JC, I didn't know it would kill her." I say. This is all my fault, I asked her to do this for me. Neither JC or I knew what would have happened. I should've realized she would have to use a lot of magic. I could have done some other research.

"Babe, she knew what she was doing. She wanted to do this for you, for us." She defends me from myself.
I sit up a little straighter, processing the information. "Why would she do that for us?" I ask confused. When I first met Kelsia I could easily tell she had good intentions, but to do something like this ? Why?
JC reached for my hand, grasping it firmly. She smiles as she says, "She literally wanted to do this for us. She wanted to give us a chance."
I still don't completely understand.
"I- I wish I could thank her." I say feeling my emotions bubble to the top. I can not believe Kelsia gave her life for JC and I. We are basically strangers to her.
"She knows we are so grateful." JC says hugging me, I hugged her back soaking in the warmth of her body.
"If she died from that, I bet the rogues have a bunch of witches held captive." I say coming to a realization. She died transforming me to a Spellbound Lycan, other witches will too.
JC let out a gasp, pulling away. "Theo, we have to help them."
"We will." I say, pushing my legs off the bed and JC helps me stand up.
I'm a little unsteady, but JC helps me walk to a chair. "I'll go bring you some water. I think you need to rest the rest of the night. Kelsia wasn't able to tell me how long it would take for you to fully recover."
I'm not crazy about being basically bed-bound but she's right. Kelsia died for this, I don't need to mess anything up.
JC waits for my reaction, but I accept what she told me. "Can you get my files and my computer in dad's-" I stop remembering it's no longer dad's office. "-my office. I should get some work done."
She leans down and kisses my lips tenderly. I kiss her back, pulling her in a little longer. Savoring the moment.
JC pulls away and smiles. "I'll be right back. Stay in that seat mister." She forces the playfulness in her voice and leaves the room.
There is more on her mind than just Kelsia passing away. Whatever it is, I'll find out. Mates shouldn't keep anything from each other.
I head to the kitchen and see Melanie and Natalie fixing themselves something to eat.
"How's Alpha Theo?" Melanie asks, looking up first to see me. Natalie looks up and I see her give a glare my way but looks back down to her food.

The girls shouldn't even be up here they should still be in the bunker.
"What are you doing here? You should be with everyone else in the bunker." I ask, stopping to look at them so they know I'm serious.
"We come to take more food down there, but decided to make our favorite food up here and eat it. We don't want to share with the children." Melanie answers easily.
Selfish much?
I walk behind them to the refrigerator and get out a couple bottles of water.
"Get it done quickly. I can't have you girls up here and unsupervised while everything is going on. Where is your mother?" I ask another question.
These girls are just teenagers, they should have an adult present. Their mother was obviously very concerned the last time she felt her daughters were in danger. Why wouldn't she be now?
Also, the men always bring the women and children food and water. They shouldn't be up here in the first place.
"We've got it covered." Natalie snaps with attitude.
I place the water bottles down and glare back at her. "No, you don't. I'll say this one time, and one time only. Get back down to the bunker immediately. Stuff the food in your mouth if you have to, but you aren't authorized to come back up here yet." I say with authority.
Melanie starts gathering up the food she finished making and put it in a paper bag. Natalie just stares at me, her grip visibly tightens on the fork is is holding.
"Got something to say Natalie?" I ask narrowing my eyes at her. These girls have a problem with authority obviously. It doesn't make sense that their mom would let them come up here.
I'm pretty sure the only reason they came up is because they wanted some time to themselves where they wouldn't be in a room with children all day.
Five can sleep to a room down there so I know they aren't used to that. But it's the rules and it keeps them safe.
"I just-" Natalie starts but Melanie interrupted her. "Stop. Let's just go back down there."
Chase comes in the kitchen at that time. "What are you two doing up here?"
Both of the girls jump at his voice.
"They came to get more food. Can you escort them back, I've got to get back to Theo." I say, getting a small headache.
Chase immediately agrees, and escorts the girls out the door. I grab the water and walk back up the stairs toward Theo's office.
I enter and take in the surroundings. I've never been in here before surprisingly. I go to the file cabinet. Which files do you want? I mind link Theo.
I see all kinds of different labels. , ,, , etc.
Plan B and Safety. He replies back and I grab those files. I almost peek inside, but remember that I'm the Luna and Theo will be able to talk to me about what all these are. Together.
I walk back up the stairs and go into our room. "I heard one of the twins. Is everything alright?" He asks as I hand him a water bottle and the files. I sit the computer on the bed because I don't need to give him too much stuff at once.
"You probably heard Natalie. Her and Melanie were in the kitchen fixing food. I asked them what they were doing and they said they were collecting more food. Melanie admitted they just wanted to get away for a while." I explain.
"They know better than that. They shouldn't be up here. The warriors are the ones who bring food to them." Theo says with exhaustion.
"I know. Chase escorted them back down there. They didn't give me too much trouble this time, although Natalie still doesn't like me very much." I say unaffected, but mention it anyway.
"They are teenage she-wolves, they will get over it." Theo flips through the folders and starts reading. I sit on the edge of the bed, unsure about what to do.
"So...since I'm the Luna is there anything I can do? I'd like to learn more about everything." I ask.
Theo glances up and gives me a smile. "Yeah, I'd love that."
So Theo and I began discussing strategies and safety. We talked about everything that we possibly could for the pack's best interest. Soon, it was night time again and Chase told us that the rogues were staying gone, for now.
So Theo and I curl up in bed and talk some more about the future and what it means for us. We agreed on not having children. Theo wants a heir to the pack, but we can't risk making our child a hybrid. We don't want this life for them. So Chase's first born will be the heir to this pack.
As much as I wanted to have children one day, I just can't imagine putting my child through this. Neither can Theo.
They would had been a firecracker and a strong werewolf for sure, but we can't look out for our best interests.
We have to look out for the whole world's too.

Virtual reality MMORPGs have become a cultural phenomenon; a cynical 14-year-old girl plays the most popular of them with two controllers, controlling two characters at once. She promptly commits a crime against humanity, dies, learns the meaning of life, and then is reincarnated as both of her characters, Sing and Crier. The following is an edgy adventure of survival, relationships, and growth into adulthood in a world where everything is trying to kill her. This story is undergoing streamlining. Features such as Chapter Recaps and Reference Marks are also actively being added to earlier chapters. Be advised, your reading experience may be impacted.
