《The Tracking ✔》Chapter 20-Work of Art

This is the shortest chapter I have ever written on the book, so bare with me! It's just a little filler chapter. :)

Sitting behind this steering wheel feels like it's forever and a day. My mate is literally right in front of me and I can't do anything about it considering the traffic. She knows I'm here and I wonder what she will do. I'm not letting her leave again.

When my eyes met my mate's and I felt like my world is complete. You don't just let something like that slip away. I mean, what are the chances she and I would be at the same place at the same time? That's the moon goddess's work and nobody can convince me it wasn't. JC and I are fated, there is no way around it.

She can continue running but I have a feeling she will be running her whole life, not just from the obsessed rouges, but from me. I'll never stop searching for her, one look was all it took and I was done with holding back.

She's beautiful, a work of art.

"So that was your first time seeing her?" Drake awakens me out of my zoned out stage of staring at the back of JC's head in the car.

"Yeah." I respond and focus back on the car. I noticed she had a younger male wolf with her. It seems she doesn't mind hanging out with strangers.

Jealousy aside, I barely glanced at him because I was to busy focusing on her. She looked unnatural to me, still beautiful but like she wasn't in her pure form. I didn't see the birthmark on her face because she must have covered it with makeup and her hair is blonde.

She just doesn't look right.

I finally get the nerve to pull out the picture JC's mother gave me a while back. In the picture JC is smiling up in the other direction. Her top and bottom teeth slightly parted as if she is about to laugh. It's a stunning picture. The kind where the eyes smile more than the mouth. Her birthmark isn't showing in it, but her hair is brunette and one eye is blue and one is gold.

Jackie never told me that about her, it was quite an interesting feature. I imagine how I will feel looking at her in her eyes without that barrier.

When I saw her at Checkers, she had brown eyes and blonde hair. Yet, I still knew she was my mate.

"She must have changed everything after she left me. She looked like that before." Drake said pointing to the picture in my hand. I put it in my coat and continue staring ahead.

"I need to call her mom." I say dreadfully. I don't know if her mother will be happy or upset with the situation. I haven't spoken to her or Allen in a few weeks.

"Can you do it? I don't need to risk getting pulled over on the phone with her." I ask Drake who nods.

I hand my phone to him and tell him her name. She picks up on the first ring and I can hear Drake talking to her. I zone out once again and focus on her vehicle. The plates were switched because they are Oklahoma tags, not her original Florida tag.

"So Jackie said they are heading to Tennessee right now to help protect her. I told her that we have a rogue problem." Drake says and leans back in the seat.

"Thanks, but I have a feeling JC is going to be the bigger problem here." I say feeling uneasy about the situation. She's still driving and we have passed a couple exits. She has always stayed in the middle lane.

"Why doesn't she just stop?" I ask more to myself than to Drake. I'm tired of being away from her and just knowing something is bothering her. Also, the fact not only us are hunting for her.

She should be running to me, not away. I need to protect her. My every instinct tells me to love, care, and protect her. That's all I want to do, and damn I'm mad that I can't. I'm mad at her for making me chase her like that and worry about everything I've worried about so far.

That's no way to treat a mate.

"Man whatever you're thinking just breath and calm down. You look like you're about to blow." Drake suggests and I listen. I calm down and I didn't realize how close my wolf was to the surface.

JC switches into the right lane of the road and I can see she is heading for a exit. I follow her, squeezing in between the vehicles. We approach the exit and she gets on it. I follow her only for her to swerve back into the interstate traffic.

I curse under my breath and swerve into it as well, just a few cars separate us and she's speeding as hard as she can to get out of sight. Drake clutches the handle as many cars beep at us.

It's not that easy little wolf.
