《The Tracking ✔》Chapter 18-Check Mate

I walk to the door and unlock it. I could hear the heartbeat of the person on the other person and it was calm and steady. That is something I have picked up on more. If their heart is beating fast, they are probably anxious or nervous about something. Hence, me avoiding them.

I open the door with a big smile on my face. The man, more like a boy wheeled the cart into the room. I hadn't realized this hotel was so fancy. I spent five-hundred dollars for three nights here, which isn't too bad since I am in Nashville, TN for crying out loud.

"Miss." The boy, who is probably thirteen years old says. I must had been staring a the floor awkwardly because I was in a trance thinking about the miracle this was.

"I've already paid right?" I ask looking at the delicious food in front of me.

"Yes Ma'am. Just need you to sign here." He says handing me a book and pen. I grab it and write out a line of a random signature where you couldn't even tell whose name it was and hand it back to him.

I kind of feel bad for eating someone else's food but I did reject it at first.

"Thank you." I say and collect my food and it's tray and lay it on the table gently.

"You're welcome." He says nervously and looks to the door hesitantly. His heart rate picks up and I know something is wrong immediately.

"What is it?" I demand his answer. The boy looks scared to death and he looks at me frantically like I just caught him in a big lie.

"They're coming." He says suddenly and rushes his cart to the door to leave. I stop the cart with my hand.

"Who is coming?" I ask, searching his eyes. The kid is truly scared.

"Rogues- for you. You look so nice, but they told me you were evil and they had to destroy you." He says growing a little emotional for taking part in the rouges's plans.

Destroy me? How do the rogues know about the power I posses?

Then I think, my face is on every news outlet. However, they are usually homeless and distant from other people or social interactions. Is that what I'm turning into?

I panic, unsure about what to do.

"Where are they?!" I ask running and putting my clothes in my bag again and putting on shoes.

He stands there, scared.

"Where are they?" I ask again, more urgently this time and look at him long and hard.

"They are already here. They could be here any time. Oh my gosh, they are going to kill me for telling you." He says acknowledging that he will most likely die from this, from giving me this information.

"No. Come with me, close the door." I say. When he does that, he doesn't lock it so I use my abilities to lock it. The boy screams, quickly I silence him by closing his mouth with my power too.

"I'm not going to hurt you." I say and keep throwing things in my bags. I look back at him and see him nod, I release the pressure off his mouth.

"How can you do that?" He asks stepped away from me hesitantly.

See? This is what I am most afraid of. I am literally scaring a kid, so much I can smell his urine. That is an awesome feeling.

"I don't know, but I promise I will protect you." I say, smiling at him in hopes he can see I am not evil. Who am I kidding, he saw my dark eyes. That's probably all he can see by now.

"Will you come with me?" I ask slinging the bag over my shoulder. I can't wait for this boy to trust me, I have to get out of here. I grab the sandwich in one hand and have my keys in the other.

"I'm scared." He admits, looking back at the door as if rouges will knock it down.

"I'm not waiting for you kid. You trust me or you don't. Either way, I'm getting out of here." I say and go out on the balcony. I am thankfully two stories up; I can easily jump down and land easily.

"I don't want to die." He says referring to the rogues.

I look back, feeling sorry for him. He shouldn't be involved in this. He's just a kid. The kid is a werewolf and I can smell it on him he's a rouge. He probably grew up being an older rouges slave.

"Then don't die. Don't be their slave." I say, urging him to follow me. At that exact moments a couple hard knocks sound on the door and I look at the boy.

"It's now or never." I say and jump off the balcony and land on the pavement with ease. It is almost 10 at night here and at this location no one was in sight.

The boy leans over the railing, looking down uneasy.

"Come on!" I yell.

He glances back, but throws his legs over the railing and tentatively jumps. He lands perfectly and we take of running to my vehicle.

Thankfully, the parking lot is empty and I unlock my car. The light flashes and the boy and I get in. I lay my sandwich down in my lap and pull out of the parking lot.

"What's your name?" I ask, we turned on the second street. I don't think anyone is following us.

"Jared." He says nervously.

I pick up my sandwich, "So tell me Jared, is this sandwich poison?" I ask giving him a grin. The situation is stressful, but I force a smile to show him I'm friendly. I hope it's not poison.

"No Ma'am. The other sandwich had wolf's bane in it, I swiped it out to give you a chance." He blurts out.

My stomach drops at the thought of digesting wolf's bane but I'm happy the sandwich doesn't have that.

I believe him. It's nice to know that kid like himself learned to do the right thing.

I take a bite from my sandwich, making my saliva glands double.

I have to remember to stay concentrated, but this sandwich is heaven. I turn down a few other roads until I park in a crowded food joint. I'm already hungry for more food. I just wish I had a chance to eat that salad.

"What's your name?" He asks, I can hear his heartbeat slow down. He's becoming more comfortable.

"Claire." I say not wanting to give him my actual name in case he somehow goes back to the rogues with more information. I don't think that will happen. I trust Jared. He's just scared. My wolf and I agree that he needs us.

How does it feel to be selfless? My wolf asks. I let out a breath and give Jared a reassuring smile.

Shut up. I say back playfully.

I turn the ignition back on and go through the drive-thru of Checkers. There is a line of about six cards which should go by fairly fast. I'm going to get a Big Buford, Fly Lover's Burger, A Bacon All American Cheese Burger, and a Cherry Coke- for me anyway.

"What do you want?" I ask Jared who shacked his head profusely.

"I'm okay." He replies and stares out the window. No doubt watching out for the rouges.

Just in time, I hear his stomach growl. "Sure Kid. What do you want?" I ask again and arch my eyebrow at him.

The kid is scared of me, why not use it against him to make him eat? "Bacon Cheese Burger and a sweet tea."

"Welcome to Checkers. Would you like to try our special seasoned bacon cheese fries?" The woman on the other end of the speaker asks.

"Sure! Also I want a Big Buford, a Bacon All American Cheese Burger, a Fly Lover's Burger, two Bacon Cheese Burgers. Then a cherry coke and a sweet tea." I said looking a the screen as it displayed the order items.

She repeats them back to me and I agree. "$50.76 is you're total."

I pull the the first window and pay, then set in line longer to go to the next window.

"You got me two bacon cheese burgers. " Jared states.

"Yeah well, I can tell you're hungry." I state back and watch the car in front of me. I have a weird feeling and I can't quite place it. I pull up to the window finally and grab the bags of food. The smell over whelming my senses.

The car in front of me isn't wanting to move just yet. Like they are checking their bags to make sure they have anything. I finally pull up further and within seconds ever instinct in my body tells my eyes to look to the left.

Well shit.
