《The Tracking ✔》Chapter 9- A Flaming Heart

My wolf was hunting- for much more than food. She paced the room, after discovering there was no exit, not even a window to jump from. The door was locked, and her powerful snout wasn't enough to open the steel door.

I couldn't get control back, my wolf refused and forced her down into a deep corner of my mind. I wouldn't have it however, there was no way my wolf was going to do something reckless we would both will regret.

"Give me control back or I will take it back." I said as loud as I could, I threatened my wolf which is something not a lot of werewolves have the gut to do. Why? During a heat, a wolf is relentless to find a mate. She is relentless to find her mate. She will kill, destroy, and in worse case scenario, be with someone else to ease the pain.

Still, my wolf refused to give herself back. "I know you are hurting and scared, but you have to give me power back. We can not make this mistake."

Her wolf jumped up on the bed and took a pillow in her mouth and tore it up out of frustration.

I decided it was time to stop playing around. I have given her chances to make the right decision but she will not listen. If I don't stop her, she will create chaos.

"Vox Mutas. Vox Mutas." Two times was all it took and my human body collapsed on the floor as my wolf surrendered indefinitely until I says it's okay again. My body was still burning and changing into my wolf provided a little relief, but not for long.

I walked over to the tub, careful not to slip on the water my wolf brought out with her. Some ice still rested in the water and I dipped in and emerged myself again. My stomach clenched uncontrollable and I let out a scream that seemed to shake the walls.

My werewolf hearing picked up movement outside the door and it opened within seconds. Drake came into the room, sticking his finger in his ear as if cleaning out something.

"That was loud." He said and dumped more ice in the tub. It was getting full now and I knew I would have to drain some of the water soon. Thankfully, I placed a black towel on top of my body before Drake came in so he couldn't see through the water.

"Why is the floor wet and the pillow destroyed? Did you get out?" He asked looking at me curiously.

"My wolf took control, I got it back." I said exhaustively and without thinking it through. I did not need him digging into my life and finding out the truth about me.

"How did you manage that? A wolf is ten more times powerful when in heat." He said unbelieving. I knew the reason-my chanting. My curse.

He couldn't know the however, no one could. "It was a lot of work. It took a while."

"I was gone for like 10 minutes." He said crossing his arms across his chest, eyeing me suspiciously. If he kept that up, I would start seeing him as a threat and attack. I was getting upset under his stare.

"Leave it alone." I grunted out as another wave of pain hit me.

A line of curses followed from my lips as I sank my head under the water and let out screams. An idea came to mind and I gasped out of the water for air. Drake being considered and a little worried was a understatement. The man looked scared of me.

"I need you to call my mom." I say giving in.

Drake went into the back of his pocket and grabbed his phone. He looked at me questionably, "Are you sure you want me to do this? You've evidently ran away from something."

I sank my head partially in the water and I looked up at the popcorn ceiling. My mind told me to not contact my mother, but my body knew that my mother and mate were searching for me together.

"What were you running away from JC?" Drake pushed. As he pushed, my wolf grew angry and I grew angry. It was none of his business. "What is it that's got you so scared?"

"Just leave Drake." I growl at him as if I could kill him on spot, and I could.

Drake gulped and nodded. He stood up, putting the phone back in his pocket. "I'm going into the bedroom, but I'm not leaving. You need my protection. If you are sure you want to call your mom just yell for me."

I don't need protection.

Drake walks out and I sink lower in the tub. I had a choice to make. If I call my mom, they trace the call and my mate finds me. It's all over then. If I can manage this heat, I can keep travelling and live my life without fear. Both are sad options in reality but-

More pain shot threw me and I put the black towel in between my teeth and screamed. The water seemed to be almost heating up instead of cooling me down. I needed to get out and find some other way to relax my body.

I pulled the plug from the tub and sat there as the water drained from around my body which was relaxing in the sense that it could be. The towel laid soaked on my skin clinging to my curves in the most intimate ways.

Hold on a moment, was I actually getting flustered thinking of myself? I let out a little laugh which felt like the first time in a long time. Soon, it was hysterical laughs that echoed through the bathroom. The pain was still there however, and it interrupted my laughing session with another round passed through me.

The tub was suddenly uncomfortable and I stood after the pain subsided. I ringed out the towel and grabbed a cool silk robe hanging on a hook at the door.

I stood in the mirror feeling overwhelming ashamed of myself. Silliness aside, the pain set in this time in a different place. A place that hurt much more than my body.

My own personal flaming heart.
