《The Tracking ✔》Chapter 8- The One With Answers

Alex Pettyfer as Drake !

I still confused as to why I got that intense headache back at the hospital. I knew JC's heat arrived and it only made me more urgent to get to her. It was my mission now, as if my whole aspect of existence depended on finding her, my mate.

But in the fast hour, it became a little clearer, or at least I thought it did. JC is a vulnerable she-wolf in heat. All unmales could catch the scent of her and it drive them to find her and mate.

I've always hated that about our species. It connected us to dogs way too much.

"She couldn't have gotten far. With her heat taken its effect, she would be in a lot of pain and would be tired. She has to be at a hotel somewhere in a three-hundred mile proximity." James says to his Beta, Allen. I wanted to hold my mate after getting verbal confirmation that she was in pain.

I stood beside the two, listening as patiently as I could.

"I have a friend in the FBI. I'll see if they can trace her phone or see if she has used her debit card in any locations around." Allen suggested smugly.

My body starts burning again and my head is aching unbearably. I clinch my fist together, my nails dig in my hand.

"You'll have to call him in the car. I know the general direction we need to head to." My wolf was telling me go to south, toward Miami. He was urgent to leave now and kept saying that other males are trying to find her.

The pain subsides and I thank James and walk to the car with Allen with JC's mother right behind us.

JC's father, Conrad, who I met briefly earlier has to stay behind to take the Beta role since he is third in command. Let's just say that meeting was awkward. He didn't seem too concerned with his daughter's disappearance, however he was staring me down as if I had something to do with it. Maybe he isn't a man of many words, I'm sure he is concerned about her.

I get in the passenger seat since Allen mentioned I probably don't need to drive in my current condition.

Jackie sat in the back. I could easily tell she's nervous but very persistent on finding JC. Maybe this trip will be an excellent time to bond with my future mother in law.

Soon, the pack gates faded out of view and we were on the interstate within twenty minutes. The cars passed us and I began to wish I could drive.

"So tell us about yourself Theo. It will distract you from the pain, it will become more hard to ignore as we get closer to her." Allen's voice piped in above the rumble of the car's engine.

"There isn't much to tell. I'd like to know more about JC." I look back at Jackie and see her smile slightly.

Jackie straightens herself in her seat and places her hands in her lap, twittering her thumbs. "JC is a very smart girl. Always top of her class. She's ambitious and driven. She's loving and caring. She always loved to help others."

She emphasizes "always" and laughs a little. Jackie trails off after that and clears her throat.

"But she changed." She finishes. I look back in the mirror, she's thinking hard about something. I wait for her to continue and so does Allen.

"When she was fifteen and got registered on the app, she was really nervous. I expected it to be because she wanted her mate to like her or she was scared he wouldn't come looking for her."

I felt guilt when she said the last part. I think I would have came looking for her eventually. I would of had to. My father pushed me to come, if he hadn't I wouldn't had for two years? Five? Fifteen ?

I didn't know. All I know is that as soon as I smelt that amazing scent and knew my mate's name I had to find her and claim her as mine. I was still reluctant, but that was fading away quickly.

Why hadn't I tried to find her sooner?

You know why.

My wolf added in, reading my thoughts. He was restless and confused. I didn't blame him.

"Please continue. We need to know what we are walking in to if we find her." Allen says sympathetic but driven.

"When we find her." I said suddenly, irritated and give Allen a cold glare. He ignores it and glances back at Jackie to continue.

"JC started telling me to stay out of her room. I didn't understand why, I thought it was a teenage girl thing. You know, hormones? So I didn't go in. Soon after, she got her hair cut where it framed her face. I thought it looked great on her, although it hid her birthmark." She visibly shrugs her shoulders in the backseat.

"Her birthmark is on her face?" I ask and turn around to look at her instead of in a mirror. It felt as if certain pieces were coming together.

"Yes. Her upper cheek bone, right side. The last time I saw it it was a small light colored star shape. A small freckle in the center, it was barely noticeable back then."

"So you haven't seen the birthmark since she was fifteen?" Allen interjected. He seems especially concerned about her wanting to hide it, I did too.

I wanted to growl at him in warning but held myself back. I wanted to be the one who asked the questions. I wanted to be the one who discovered these things about my mate.

"Eventually, even as her hair grew out I didn't see it anymore. I wondered why but never asked. I should have asked but I wanted her to come to me first. I left it alone for too long."

"I don't understand. She covered it up? Why?" I ask and grip my knees with my hands. Another wave of pain hits me and I clinch my teeth. Jackie's talking but all I can hear is mumbles of voices.

"Anyway, I think she's scared." She finished off with a exhausted sigh.

"I'm sorry Jackie but I need you to repeat that. I couldn't concentrate because the pain." I say apologetically and a little embarrassed.

"Right, she saw you at the Rec Hall. I could tell something was wrong so we left to go to the pack house. She was in tears and didn't say anything at first. She eventually told me she didn't want you to find her, that's why she covered the birth mark with makeup."

"That wouldn't change anything though. If I had laid my eyes on her in there it would have been all over. Done." I say blown away at my mate's thoughts. None of it made sense.

"She said she had a plan. I don't think she actually expected anyone to come looking for her. I don't think she thought it out so she ran." Jackie said, growing a little emotional.

"None of this makes sense." Allen and I both say at the same time. We glance at each other and then focus back on the road.

"There's more to it, but she's the only one who can answer it all."

I managed to look through the peep hole again. I must had imagined Theo's voice because it wasn't him out there. I guess I was starting to hallucinate now. I laughed to myself.

It was Drake and the male I didn't recognize, fighting. They weren't in wolf form so it wasn't that messy yet.

I look to the left and see five buckets of ice sitting right outside. My relief's here !

I look back at the fighting men. Drake pulls out a syringe and quickly puts the needle in the man's neck, pushing an orange liquid in.

I would have been shocked, maybe a little confused. But I wasn't focused on the fact Drake just gave someone a shot of who knows what. I wanted that ice.

I open the door as the man falls limp to the floor. Is he dead? I thought for a split second watching the eyes of the blue man. Did I care? Nope.

"I was hoping you wouldn't had to see that." Drake says out of breath. He doesn't have a scratch on his body and may just be out of breath from carrying the buckets.

"I don't care." I simply say back. I grab a bucket of ice. I felt how tired my muscles were in my arms and legs. I knew I could only carry one.

"Get the rest and put them in the tub." I say stripping down to my underwear. Which was a sports bra and boy shorts. I'm desperate.

Drake looked unaffected and brings the rest in and locks the door behind him.

I get in the tub and he starts pouring the ice on me. I felt goosebumps rise on my skin, and it was the good kind. The relief's overwhelming, and it was melting quickly. Steam rolled off my body and the ice began liquefying within seconds.

"Dammit." I cry out, splashing the water and ice in anger.

It was working so well!

"I'll get more." Drake said stunned at how hot my body was. He grabbed the card off the table. I guess he realized I wouldn't be leaving this tub anytime soon.

I decided to try and let my body relax in the basically, ice cold water. I let my head sink in under and allowed my wolf to come to the surface. By surface, I meant still in human form but where she could also have this feeling of relief. I didn't expect to actually turn into my wolf. I tried forcing her back down, but she was too strong.

Give me control back. I said to her sternly, but she ignores me and gets out of the water.
