《Mrs. Maximoff》Forty-three

Christmas was just three days away, and since I was going to spend it at Wanda's, I needed to get her a gift.

We didn't talk about that topic, but even if she didn't want any, I felt like giving her something.

It was the minimum I could do after all she did for me.

I would much rather prefer showing her than buy her something, because anyone can give you a gift.

Just because anyone can show up at your house and bring you that box, doesn't mean there's love behind that action.

Most people give you gifts because they would feel bad about themselves if they didn't, there really isn't any kind of feeling that brings them to give you something.

They can't give you what you want or what you need, and I wanted to be the opposite of that to Wanda.

It took me time to realize that it was what I wanted, mostly because half of the time I was confused by Wanda's actions.

But after she told me the truth I didn't really have anything else to think about, I had what I wanted and needed in front of me.

And maybe, after all she did for me, a small "thank you" gift would be the perfect start for it all.

"So, what exactly are we looking for?" Morgan asked as we walked into the mall.

"A gift, duh." I said rather annoyedly, distancing myself from my best friend when I felt them slap my shoulder.

"That was no unnecessary!"

"No, it wasn't. I'm already made I wasn't the first one to know about the suspicious activities you did at the Maximoff household, so don't give me that attitude, it will just make it worse." I had trouble figuring out if Morgan was being serious, but knowing them, they probably were.

"I can't believe you're actually mad about that. And FYI, they weren't suspicious, they were a kiss. Just a kiss."

"You stargazed!"

"Not a suspicious activity."

"At a lake house!"

"Still not suspicious."

"Ugh, whatever."

We walked into the first few stores but nothing really caught my eye there, and even though there were still other options, I was starting to lose my mind.

Morgan could probably notice it by the way I was playing with my hands, pressing my palms onto each other or cracking my fingers every time I could.

"Should we split up? Maybe we can find something faster this way." They suggested, and as good as it sounded, I knew that it wasn't the best idea at that moment given how nervous I was.

If we split for even the smallest amount of time I would just panic and lose myself in that mall.

I shook my head and they got the hint, signaling me that it was okay.

"Should we take a break? I saw that there's a small cafè not too far from here, it's just down the street. We could have breakfast there, cool ourselves off and then come back better than ever. What do you say?" That didn't sound too bad, so I nodded my head and followed Morgan out.

They were right, our walk there was not even ten minutes long and the place looked nice.

We went inside and sat at a table, the waiter took our orders and we just waited for our food to come while chatting mostly about what I wanted to get Wanda.

"I want to give her something special, something that reminds her of us and what it took to finally get where we are now." I explained to Morgan, who looked like they were ready to make a joke about it at any second.

"Don't." I scolded them before they could say anything, they just raised their arms in defense.

"You two work together, right?"

"Well, not exactly together, she's still my boss."

"Yeah, but she supervises what you journalists write, doesn't she?"

"She does."

"Maybe you could get her something that is linked to that in some way."

That wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but their words sparkled something in me.

I knew what I had to do.

"What? You look quite happy. Did I just give you the best idea ever? I'm amazing, I know." Morgan bragged, but before I could say anything to them our food arrived and I was ready to think about how I was going to get this done.

I didn't have it all planned out in my mind yet, but I was getting there.

At least I knew what I wanted to give her.

While we ate our breakfast Morgan and I discussed what we should get Jules, of course theirs was going to be different than mine, and that was when it hit me that we had so many gifts to buy.

Why is Christmas shopping always like that?

You go buy something for one person and then suddenly remember everyone that's part of your family or you're friends with.

"We should just ditch everyone and escape to Antarctica. What do you say?"

"Coming up with plans was never your specialty, Morgan."

"I am not bad at planning!"

"So we aren't going to talk about that one time we celebrated our graduation and you told us all to not worry about anything since you were going to take care of it?"

"Yeah, what about that?"

"You sent us all to a club one hour of town, Morgan."

"It happened one time."

"Whatever, doesn't make you any less bad at planning."

"Hater."

"Now let's go, I need to get this and like ten thousand more gifts done!" I exclaimed as I dragged them out of the cafè once we were done eating our food.

"Why did I agree to this?"
