《Mrs. Maximoff》Thirty-eight

Besides the not-so-great talk with Ari, my first day back at work wasn't half bad.

My colleagues were all very nice, and even though they noticed that something wasn't right with Ari and I, they didn't mention it, which I was grateful for.

Jules told me all about her and Morgan's weekend trip and it actually sounded fun, I was glad they had a good time.

I left at five o'clock sharp and took the bus home, hoping I wouldn't bump into Ari again since we take the same bus.

I felt my phone buzz in my pocket but I ignored it, my music was too important to respond to anyone in that moment.

I waited for my stop and got off once we had finally reached it, feeling like I had been there for a lifetime.

"Hey bitch!"

Ah, my best friend, always a pleasure getting greeted by them.

"Hello, I see the greetings get better every day," I said in a jokeful tone as I walked to my room and put everything down on my bed.

I remembered about my phone buzzing but not looking at whichever notification I had gotten, so I did that before going in the shower.

Hey, how was your first day back at work?

It was okay besides you know who...

Who? Ari? Do I have to snap at her again? Because I'll gladly do it.

No, I don't think so. And you're so much better than that, Wanda.

Fine.

I was thinking you could come over tonight? Or I could? We could have a drink and celebrate you coming back at Oleg? It's totally fine if you don't want to, I just thought it would be fun :)

Woah, since when do you use emojis?

Since periods look weird.

To answer your question, yes, I'd love to come over. You have already seen where I live so I think it's time I see where you live.

Creep.

Sure. I'll see you at 8 if that works for you?

It sure does.

See you tonight :)

I kind of need your address, you know.

I'll just send that to Stewart.

Hold up, you text Stewart?

We're like best buddies now.

Wow...okay. I feel betrayed.

Well, just remember who I'm having drinks with in a couple of hours.

You'll ditch me for Stewart.

Probably, yeah.

I got in the shower as soon as I put my phone on my nightstand.

Every time I talked with Wanda I was left feeling giddy, she made me so excited over the little things.

If one of my friends had asked me to go over at theirs after work I probably would have said no, not because I was tired but just because I didn't feel like it, I was always the stay-in kind of person, even if it was just a small gathering between friends.

But when it came to Wanda? I wanted to do everything with her, even the stupidest little things.

I took another shower and again blasted some music, hearing Morgan sing along with me sometimes.

"You sound and look very happy, is there something that I need to know?" They asked in their "I'll find out either way" voice, and after all these years I still couldn't tell if it was more creepy or annoying.

"Nothing, just had a good day." I tried to dodge the question as I knew Morgan would freak out if I told them I was going to see Wanda.

"You are using your good moistruizer." I looked at the little container I had in my hands and mentally cursed myself.

First, because I didn't realize they would notice it.

Second, because this tiny thing definitely wasn't worth the money I spent on it. It wasn't even as big as half of my hand.

"Fine, I'm going at Wanda's." I said as calmly as I could even though I was definitely freaking out too on the inside.

"You. Are. What?!" They shouted so loud that I needed to cover my ears.

"Already taking the big steps? Woah, I definitely underestimated you. You go get some Y/N!" Morgan gave me a pat on my shoulders, totally misunderstanding what I had told them.

It was Morgan, should I have been surprised? No.

"Shut up! We're just having a drink to celebrate me going back to work, that's it." I defended myself, but it was kind of useless against Morgan.

"Yeah, because everyone gets drinks with their boss."

"Your mother had a kid with her boss." I fired back, earning a slap on the back of my neck.

"Don't bring Pepper into this."

Okay, maybe I deserved it.

"Sorry." I said as I made my way out of the bathroom. "I just have to pick out my outf-"

"Already did." Morgan cut me off and I glared at them.

"What? I knew something was up by the way you were singing My Girl by The Temptations at the top of your lungs."

"Did you just call me out?"

"There is literally no one here."

"Still, you never know."

"And then I'm the asshole, mhm, sure."

"Get out. This outfit of yours better be good or I'm throwing hands."

"Woah, calm down tiger. I'll go."

I got changed into the outfit Morgan picked and honestly it wasn't bad, definitely saved me from staring at the closet in confusion over what to wear.

I put my shoes on and sprayed some perfume, then took the apartment's keys, my phone and was ready to go.

It was nearing eight so I guessed Stewart was already outside, and indeed he was.

"Stewart! I missed you so much!" I jumped into his arms, maybe a little bit too aggressively.

"Woah, slow down Y/N! You don't wanna get hurt again!" He advised me, but that didn't stop him from hugging me back.

"Right, but I haven't seen you in so long, I actually thought Wanda kidnapped you or something."

"Because she picked you up this morning?"

"Yeah!"

"I wasn't kidnapped, she kindly asked me if she could pick you up."

"I still think you were in the back of her car somehow."

"Of course you do..."

Those were the last words he said before driving away.

I would be lying if I said I didn't feel my heartbeat get a little faster, because it was, and even a lot.

It was just Wanda.

Just. Wanda.
