《Town or City |Wolfblood|》CHAPTER VII: Stoneybridge

"Another new kid? What is this, new kid central?" Jimi mocked as the new guy walked down the stairs and he was focused on his schedule. Jimi stuck out his foot and the guy stopped just before it and he simply raised his eyebrows.
"Is there an amputee missing a foot around here?" His accent stuck out at once to them all, and Liana turned to look at the new kid, who just simply walked over Jimi's foot and the bully looked frustrated. He was American, it was clear to them and Liana heard a growl come from Rhydian, as he was walking over.
"I don't like him at all." Rhydian murmured under his breath and it was quiet even by wolfblood standard of quiet, but the guy looked up as if he had heard it.
Rhydian said nothin' else and Liana shook her head slightly at him, as she was walking toward class and she was looking down with music in her ears, right up until she ran straight into a wall and she grumbled. "Ow." She muttered and she moved around the wall and into the classroom, as Jimi, Liam and Sam crowed with laughter.
Jimi said with a mocking tone and Liana glared at him and when she walked by his desk, her foot lashed out and his chair fell over, with him on it. Jimi hit the floor and Liana continued to her desk in silence, as she sat behind Rhydian and in front of Maddy, while the new boy was to her right. Jimi asked and Liana let out a low growl, as if there was a menacing animal somewhere in the classroom. "Did you just growl at me?" Jimi asked. He muttered and before he had gotten up off of the floor, Liana lunged at him.

"Liana!" Rhydian shouted as Liana was swinging at Jimi, who was trying to keep his hands up and Maddy lunged to restrain Liana, as well as Rhydian and Liana was dragged off of Jimi, who had a bloody nose and a bloody lip.
Mr. Jeffries shouted and Liana was seething, as Rhydian and Maddy tried to get her to calm down as Liana's veins were crawling up her arms and she glared at the floor, as she tried to keep from shifting. He snapped and she raced out of the classroom and went straight into the dark room, as she shut the door behind her and she was breathing heavily, as she tried to keep the wolf inside.
"Liana?" Maddy asked through the door, as Liana was growling from between her clenched teeth and Liana was leaning her head against the door. "Liana, are you all right?" Maddy asked as Liana shut her eyes briefly.
"Whatever you do, don't open the door." Liana growled and she snarled suddenly, before she felt her bones crackling and she dropped onto her knees, as she snarled and as soon as she did, her front paws hit the floor and she growled savagely, as she prowled around the dark room and Maddy slipped into the room.
Maddy crouched on the floor and Liana growled briefly at her, before she sat back on her haunches and she licked her paws, as she turned around three times and lay down on her belly in silence. "Are you all right now?" Maddy asked as Liana was stretching and spinning around to lean against the wall in her human form.
"Better now. I just needed to wolf out, which I know it was terrible timing." Liana muttered and she sighed quietly, as she wrapped her arms around her knees and tucked them under her chin, as she was shaking a little bit.

"Well, next time you need to wolf out, stay home from school all right?" Maddy asked and Liana sighed at her sister, as Maddy moved over to sit next to her for a snuggle and in response to it, it was Liana who moved her arms around her sister and they hugged it out quickly.
"Have you noticed anything weird about the new kid?" Liana questioned and Maddy raised her eyebrows at her. "I just had a weird notion, like he was like us." She said and Maddy scoffed a bit at her words.
"We would have smelled him out, wouldn't we?" Maddy asked and Liana lifted her shoulders slightly up a little bit. "You think that there is something else going on?" Maddy looked closely at Liana as she asked the question and Liana sighed.
"He is American, Maddy. What if the defining traits of wolfbloods over there, is to be able to disguise your scent from everyone? Even other members of the same species." Liana sounded legitimately concerned and Maddy shook her head a little bit.
"Lia, you are going absolutely mad and bonkers. I have never, ever heard of a single bloody wolfblood who could disguise their scent well enough to fool their own kind. Never in the world, sister." Maddy pointed out and Liana nodded slightly.
"Maybe I'm getting paranoid ever since Rhydian started coming around. Extra paranoid about it, I guess. Either that or keeping the secret is finally getting to me." Liana muttered and Maddy sighed at her words, as the two got up and walked out of the dark room. Liana returned to the classroom with Maddy, where she received the standard punishment of two detentions for the fighting and for injuring Jimi.
At the back of the room, they could hear scratching, like someone was carving something into the table and Liana looked over her shoulder and she saw that the new guy was carving into his desk with a knife and she snorted a little.
Mr. Jeffries was speaking to the class at large, but Rick was effectively ignoring him as he continued to carve whatever it was into the desk in front of him.
"Can you hear me?" Liana was barely even speaking and he didn't look up from his work, but she spotted his head move up and down very slightly in a nod, until she realized that he had a pair of earbuds in his ears. "Great." She mumbled as she focused on her work on the board once again.

The Emperor's Chef
"Cook like your life depends on it, kid. Because it does." Charles had an enviable future lined up for him. Training from the age of five by some of the finest chefs in the world. Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.
