Y/n put The Philosopher's Stone back on the shelf where it was supposed to be, by The Chamber of Secrets. They stood up and checked their watch. 11:50.

Ten more minnutes until my shift here ends. They thought. Then I can finally have some food today.

They strolled over to the library desk, noticing Mr. Patel, the librarian they work for, was absent. He was most likely in the washroom. there were two more books they had to put back on the shelves. Old Yeller and Ruby the Red Fairy. They smiled at the novels, remembering when they read both of those books. Suddenly, they heard a noise outside. It sounded like hissing, except not the kind cats make.

What the heck...

They speedwalked towards the open window, stopping in their tracks when they saw what was outside the glass panes.

Snake women.

Like the ones from Greek mythology. What were they called? Dracenae?

WAIT, Y/N, THOSE ARE FROM GREEK MYTHOLOGY! AND THEY'RE HERE! RIGHT BY ME! THEIR NAMES DON'T MATTER!

Y/n let out a tiny squeak of fear, which, unluckily for them, the snake-things heard. Their heads swiveled 180. They hissed at Y/n. Shockingly, they could understand the mythical creatures.

"Foood. Tassssty mortal," one said, and the other two nodded.

Y/n tried to back away, but their brain seemed to be too frozen to make their legs move. Meanwhile, the dracenae slithered to the door and opened it. They got closer and closer to Y/n, and Y/n was shaking badly and couldn't do anything about it. They couldn't even open their mouth.

One reached out to grab Y/n, but then a voice called out, "Oh, no you don't."

A blonde-haired girl around the age of Y/n had entered the room at some point, and she stabbed the snake woman that was about to take Y/n. Y/n could only watch with wide eyes as it disintegrated. The blonde girl quickly turned around, kicked one dracena in the face, and stabbed the other in the stomach with--a sword? It was completely white, as if it was made out of quartz or something. As it burst into a pile of dust, the girl grabbed the other snake thing.

"Swear on the River Styx you'll leave us and any other mortals alone from now on," she said, holding onto the dracena tightly.

That's sorta hot. Y/n thought.

"I ssswear upon the River Ssssstyxxxxx," the snake said, and a sudden boom of thunder seemed to shake the library.

"Then I'll let you go," the girl decided. Y/n wondered why she did that instead of killing the dracena, before realizing that seemed sort of...hostile.

The snake woman nodded, and quickly slithered away as the gray-eyed girl shoved her. The girl then looked at Y/n.

"I have a question," she said.

"I--uh--what?" Y/n asked, internally wincing.

Wow. She'll think you're so charming, talking like that. They thought bitterly. Thankfully, if the girl noticed how nervous they were (which seemed likely, since the blonde seemed to have an aura of cleverness around them), she didn't show it.

"What did you just see?"

"A--snake woman? Like the ones in Greek mythology. Except...that's mythology. It doesn't exist...right?" Y/n furrowed their brows in confusion.

The girl sighed. "It seems you are a clear-sighted mortal, then," she muttered. "Doesn't seem like you're a demigod, anyways. You're definitely too old to still be alive or not be claimed."

Y/n had no idea what that meant, but, since the girl didn't seem like she'd elaborate any time soon, she just decided to ignore it.

"Well, it seems like...there's a lot I should tell you. First off, my name's Annabeth," the girl said.

"Cool. I'm Y/n," Y/n introduced.

"And...well, if you want an entire explanation, I could meet you at the coffee shop across the street when your shift's done," Annabeth offered.

"My shift's done in..." they checked their watch, "right now. If you want to...explain, like, everything now, that'd be nice."

Annabeth laughed slightly. "C'mon, let's go now, then. Unless you need to grab anything?"

"Nope." Y/n set the two books on the shelf. "I can go now."

"Perfect," Annabeth grinned, and they walked out together.
