"The handcuffs are a nice touch" Cassie shook her wrists and rattled the handcuffs that were stretched to her "though rather unnecessary, I'm not completely out of control"

Cassandra had someone holding her handcuffs at all time, like she was nothing more than a worthless prisoner. But nobody could be sure, so they had to be on the safe side.

Cassie realised her voice was being ignored, like it was worthless. "How about you, huh?" She jogged forward to stand beside the young man who clamped onto her chains "do I seem like a girl who needs handcuffs to you?"

The boy was called Jonathan, the new guy that seemed a little nervous when he was brought into close contact with the prisoners. His hands slightly trembled, she could hear the chains shaking.

"Ma'am" he swallowed, his gaze forward, hoping that Elijah or someone would intervene "I have seen you kill four prison guards in my short time here, please step back"

She turned to Elijah who walked behind her "don't listen to him, he's new" she quickly retracted her question before changing the subject altogether "where are we going?"

It seemed like Cassandra was normal, like she hadn't just been locked away for just under three hundred years. She acted more like coming back from a day out, she was still filled with curiosity. Something spine tingling. Nobody would realise she was locked away if they would ever pass her on the street.

"To my family" Elijah replied, not giving away any indication to whereabouts they were going, he wanted to keep an upper hand, he wanted to keep her guessing. He wanted to do to her what she used to do to him, what she still does to him.

"Ooh, tell me Elijah, do you still thrive to see the day Niklaus redeems himself?" She asked, taking pleasure in picking apart the threads of the family that would be seen as perfect "or does Rebekah drop her bloomers for every man that looks at her the right way?"

Elijah chose to ignore her remarks, for he was still fighting for his brother's redemption, though these days he is getting closer. And Rebekah, well she has gotten better in the love area, but he still didn't want to discuss anything like that. "They still hate you" he said in a desperate bid to quieten her

"Who blames them? After all I am the mean little monster who tore their lives apart" she pouted.

"After all, you are the monster that single-handedly tore a community apart, murdered multiple witches, turned factions against each other..."

"I broke your heart too" She finished, not battering an eyelash at what she had just said, she seemed unaffected by it all, though she didn't want to admit she actually did care for him.

Elijah broke a smile and shook his head "don't be so self-absorbed, I'm much stronger, it takes more than a silly little girl to break my heart" he whispered in her ear

"Ooh, Elijah you have gotten tough" she snarled "what? Did you unleash your inner demons and realise you are nothing more than a blood sucking monster like me?" Cassie raised her eyebrow and smirked, she couldn't help herself, she couldn't control what she says to him. The words just fell from her mouth.

"I realised I shouldn't let petty little people allow me to suffer, when I walked away for the last time, I left the softer version of myself behind" Elijah retaliated "I will never be like you"

"Ooh, wounded" Cassie squinted her eyes "but it is a shame on you, being me is great"

"Let's agree to disagree, shall we?" Elijah made the snide comment as soon as they stopped at the door.

Jonathan tugged on the chains as he went to open the door but Cassandra halted, her body planting itself in the space where the light just missed her.

"Achem" she tried to get their attention, holding up her hands and wiggling her fingers, waiting for them to realise that she couldn't go out "I never made myself a daylight ring"

Elijah huffed. Did the girl have to be so annoying? Every single breath she took just agitated him more. And now she realises she does not have a daylight ring, perfect.

"Take it from someone else" Elijah demanded "before I lose my patience"

"We have a collection of confiscated ones, it can be for temporary use, they're in good condition" another man retrieved a clear bag of silver and blue rings

Cassandra looked inside, digging to try and find one that was the least bit decent looking.

"Pick one Cassandra or else I'll push you out into the sun without one" Elijah urged

"You wouldn't dare" she scowled "you need me, that's why we're in this position"

Cassandra took a silver ring, a delicately thin one with swirls around the circular lapis stone in the middle. She slid it onto her fourth finger on her right hand and smiled. "I'm ready, let's go"

Elijah took the chains from the young vampire and pushed her out into the open. It felt euphoric, to feel the sun on her pale skin once more, to breathe in fresh air, to see something other than grey, the world had as much colour, even more than she had remembered. And as she imagined, it hadn't changed a bit.

The wind picked up and blew her hair back slightly, and Cassandra just wanted to lie in the sun for hours on end and soak everything in. But she only had a few seconds to stand there, as the harsh reality clamped down, her thoughts interrupted with the rattle of chains and the force of her body being pulled forward.

Cassie wasn't free just yet, she was still a prisoner though she wasn't kept behind bars.
