《The Demon King (The Demon King, #1) - Completed》Chapter 57 - That's A Promise

I felt so tired yet it felt like I had been sleeping for an eternity. I decided to open my eyes and cringed as the bright light hit my eyes. The light actually wasn't that bright, since only one of the lightbulbs was turned on, but to me it was very bright. I realized I was in a hospital when I noticed the heart monitor and all those wires stuck on my right arm.
That's when I realized something heavy on my stomach and I looked down to find Dimitri sleeping with his head laying on my stomach. Everything immediately came rushing back to me as I remembered everything that had happened. I remembered how Dimitri took my memories away and sent me away, only for me to come back and regain all those memories back. I remembered everything about the Shadow and how it took over Dimitri's body and hurt me. I even remember how I killed Dimitri to kill the Shadow.
I felt tears sliding down my face. Dimitri was still alive. I didn't kill him. He was still here with me. I lifted my shaking hand and ran my fingers through his soft hair as I gazed down at his face. He had dark circles underneath his eyes and his eyes looked puffy as if he'd been crying. He had a lot of stubble on his jaw and cheeks and his hair was sticking up all over the place. But despite all that, he looked really handsome as he always does.
I stayed like that, running my fingers through his hair for about a half hour. I wanted to wake him up but he looked like he really needed sleep so I let him sleep.
Soon enough (more like millions of years later) he finally woke up, rubbing his eyes. He then looked at me and his eyes widened when he saw me awake and smiling at him. He immediately got up and moved closer to me, grabbing my face in between his hands. He just stared at me for a few seconds, too shocked to do anything. "You're awake." He whispered, still very much in shock as he wiped my tears away with his thumbs. I nodded my head as more and more tears slid down my face.
He suddenly brought his lips down hard against mine and kissed me like he's never kissed me before. This kiss was deep and passionate as well as urgent and I soaked up all it's glory.
I missed him so damn much that it felt so good to be kissing him. I never thought I'd ever be able to do this again. I thought I lost him forever. I reached up to cup his cheek when I felt how damp they were. He was crying. I pulled away and wiped his cheeks with my fingers. I didn't like seeing him cry.
He rest his forehead against mine. "I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you. I'm so sorry I hurt you." He whispered as the tears slid down his face.
"Don't cry." I said as I stroked his hair, tears sliding down my face as well.
"I thought I was going to lose you." His voice broke as he spoke. He then closed his eyes and buried his face in the crook of my neck. "I hurt you so much. I'll never be able to forgive myself for it. I'm so sorry!" He spoke causing me to hold him tightly to me.
"It's not your fault, Dimitri." I whispered stroking his back. "All that matters is that we're both alive and okay." I said causing him to look up at me. I smiled at him, wiping his tears away. "Smile for me Dimitri." I said stroking his jaw, enjoying the prickly feel of stubble on my hand.

He slowly smiled, kissing the palm of my hand. I grinned back. I loved his smile so much. Just then we heard the door springing open. A nurse walked in and immediately rushed to my side when she saw me awake. Dimitri moved back so she could check me. "How are you feeling, Isabella?" She asked as she checked my blood pressure.
"Tired and sleepy." I spoke causing Dimitri to shake his head in amusement. "What's so funny?" I asked him.
"You've been asleep for a month." He said causing me to gape at him.
"He's right. You were in a coma. In fact we thought you wouldn't live. But thankfully you're alive and everything seems to be alright. I'll go get the doctor to check on you." The nurse said smiling at me, before sending a cautious, almost fearful look towards Dimitri and leaving. That's when I realized that everyone knew Dimitri was a demon since he didn't bother wearing contacts to cover his red eyes.
Once the nurse had completely left, Dimitri came towards me and grabbed my hand in his. "I was asleep for a month?" I asked causing him to frown and nod his head. He leaned down and kissed my forehead.
"What even happened? I thought I..." I couldn't finish the sentence as tears welled up in my eyes at the idea of losing him forever.
"I'm a demon. You can't kill us easily. My healing powers kicked in right away. And then I woke up to find you dying. I tried saving you, but I couldn't. I didn't have any energy left. My body had used up all the energy healing myself. I didn't have anything left to save you with, and no one else could save you either. We need a lot of energy to save humans and only I have the ability to do that. Human bodies are harder since your healing abilities are really slow. So we decided to take you back to Earth and get human doctors to cure you. And now we're here." He explained, causing me to nod my head. I knew how the Shadow died since I saw it happen myself. "You saved us all Izzie." He spoke with so much love in his eyes. They were glowing. "You saved us from the Shadow. The Shadow you killed was the leader, and without the leader the other Shadows couldn't survive since none of them were strong enough yet."
"I told you I'd save you." I said, grabbing his face and pulling him closer to me. "I'd do anything for you Dimitri. I love you so much."
He slowly leaned down and pressed his lips against mine in a slow and passionate kiss. After a few long seconds, he pulled away with a loving smile on his face. "I love you too Izzie. But just promise me, you won't ever do anything insane like that ever again. Promise me you won't put yourself in danger like that. I already died once seeing you in such a horrible state. I don't need to die again." He said causing me to smile.
"That's not something I can promise you Dimi. Can I call you that? Dimi? It's cute." I asked causing him to glare at me.
"No, you're not calling me that." He said causing me to frown.
"Fine. I won't, Dimi." I grinned at him, leaning up to peck his nose as he glared down at me. "You know you love me." I laughed causing him to roll his eyes.

"Only you Izzie. Only you can get away with that. But I swear if anyone else calls me that, I will be very angry with you." He said causing me to giggle.
"And how exactly will you release your anger out on me?" I asked. "Because I think I know a few ways you can punish me." I winked causing his eyes to widen. You could tell he wasn't expecting that.
"You are one naughty girl Izzie!" He exclaimed in surprise. "But don't worry, I love it when you're naughty." He whispered in my ear causing me to giggle.
"Once I'm all better, we can have lots of fun together Dimi." I whispered in what I hoped to be a sensual voice. "All day, all night." I said as I noticed Dimitri's eyes fill up with lust. "Whenever you want, I'll be there for my King."
"Please don't say things like that Izzie. Especially not now." He spoke, his voice sounding low and husky. I giggled just as the doctor came in and introduced herself.
She checked me and asked me a bunch of questions to see if I was alright. I learned that I had a couple broken bones which would be able to heal themselves. They've already had quite a while to rest and set back. They said they already did all the important operations on me and the bones were now settling down. Other than that I would be fine. I was just really low on iron which could easily be fixed with some iron pills which I was to take regularly.
Once the Doctor was done checking me she turned to Dimitri and in a fearful voice, asked him to leave the room.
"Why?" He demanded and I could see the nurse was slightly shaking in fear and the doctor looked as if she wanted to be anywhere but here. I wasn't surprised because Dimitri could be really intimidating and scary when he wanted to be and on top of that, he was the Demon King. The Demon King who's been killing humans for so long. They didn't know him like I did. They didn't know that he had no choice. They didn't know his reasons. They didn't know that now he'd never hurt any humans ever again because the Shadow is finally gone.
"We would like to speak to her in private. This is about Isabella's privacy." She said, hoping that would convince him to leave.
"Whatever that needs to be said, can be said in front of me. I'm her boyfriend, and she trusts me." He stated firmly as he clasped my hand in his. The doctor looked to me for help and I nodded my head at her.
"Dimitri." I said causing him to look down at me. "Can you just leave for a moment?" I asked causing a hurt look to cross his face. "I promise I'll tell you everything after." I quickly said causing him to sigh. He leaned down to peck my cheek before glaring at the doctor and leaving.
Once the door closed and Dimitri was gone, the doctor turned towards me. "So we wanted to discuss... Uh Dimitri... With you." She said causing me to nod my head.
"He's the Demon King, am I correct?" She asked and I nodded my head again.
"If you're scared he's going to hurt anyone, he won't. All those humans he hurt, he didn't want to. He had no choice. I promise you he's an amazing person, just misunderstood. And I can promise you he will never kidnap humans and kill them ever again. Please believe me!" I exclaimed causing the doctor to nod her head.
"I believe you Isabella. I believe you. It seems like he really loves and cares about you. He genuinely cares, which was so surprising to us. He's been by your side this whole month, not once leaving you. Nothing we could do, could make him leave. He loves you a lot Isabella. We always thought him to be ruthless but he's proven himself otherwise. He's been on Earth for a whole month and hasn't hurt anyone. Usually if he's even here for day, he'd have about a hundred people killed. But he hasn't touched anyone. I don't know the reason why he hurt all those humans before but I do know that there is a reason. And the reason must have been good. But that's not what I wanted to talk to you about. There are two important things. First of all, your parents. We'll give them a call to tell them you're alright. What I wanted to tell you was that your parents are not happy about your relationship with Dimitri. Dimitri talked to them and they were not happy to hear whatever he said to them. They don't want you with him. They want you to cut off all ties with him." The doctor said causing me to stare back at her in shock. My parents could not have said that. They can't expect me to cut off all ties with Dimitri. I love him.
"And another thing, your mom was worried that you might be sexually active and wanted us to take tests to make sure you didn't contract any diseases. So if you feel comfortable answering, I would like to know if you and Dimitri sexually active?" She asked causing me to blush. I slowly nodded my head.
"Okay, that's fine. To be honest, I'm not really concerned if you have contracted any disease since Demons have really fast healing abilities. Their bodies don't really get the chance to catch any diseases because of how fast their immune system works. So we doubt, Dimitri would have given you anything but just to be on the safe side, we'll do a couple tests if that's okay with you." She said and I nodded my head, not really focusing on what she was saying. My mind kept going back to my parents and how they didn't want Dimitri and I together.
I noticed Dimitri walk in, just as the nurse and the doctor left. "So what was that all about?" He asked but I ignored his question.
"Did you talk to my parents?" I asked and he nodded his head with a frown on his face. "What did you say to them?" I asked and he grimaced a little.
"I told them everything. I told them how I was the cause of all that happened to you. I told them about how we fell in love. I told them about the Shadows. I explained everything to them." He said causing me to frown.
"Why did you? Now they don't want us together. You shouldn't have told them anything until I had woken up!" I yelled in frustration causing Dimitri to frown even more.
"I'm so sorry Izzie I-"
"They don't want us together Dimitri! They don't understand. They don't care if we love each other. They're mad at you for hurting me, even though it wasn't really you." I said closing my eyes in frustration.

My parents finally came and I was so happy to see them. They were crying when I met them. My mom had immediately engulfed me in a hug. "I was so worried for you!" She cried out, wiping her tears. I then hugged my dad and then my brother and sister.
We talked for a while before the topic of Dimitri was brought up and let's just say my parents were not happy. I tried explaining everything and they said they understood but they still didn't want me to be him. "But why?" I exclaimed in protest. "You're not even giving me a proper reason."
"We don't have to. We are your parents and we don't want you with him." They said causing me to gape at them.
"I'm eighteen, I can make my own decisions and you can't stop me from being with him." I said causing my dad to look really angry now.
"Look Isa, you're young. You think you love Dimitri but you don't. You have Stockholm syndrome. You-"
"Is this what it's about? You all think I have Stockholm syndrome. That's the dumbest thing ever. I don't have Stockholm syndrome mom! I love him. I genuinely love him. I wouldn't have been able to defeat the Shadow if I didn't." I explained causing my mom to look away. She knew I was right.
"Mom, just let her be with him." Britney, my sister, spoke up. "You can see how much they both love each other. Dimitri stayed by Isa's side the whole month. Not once did he get up and leave. He stayed by her side, not even caring about his own life. If that isn't love, then I don't know what is." Britney said and I loved her so much more than I think I've ever loved her.
"No Britney." Dad spoke up. "You don't understand things like this. He hurt her and no one that hurts our daughter will come near her. I don't care if it was intentional or not, he hurt her either way. We were going to lose you Isa! And it would have all been Dimitri's fault! What do you think we would have done without you Isa?"
"Dad I understand." I was crying, full on tears. "But I love him. Imagine having mom taken away from you. How does that feel?" I asked and I could tell what I said really got to him as he shuffled closer to mom and grabbed her hand.
"You're either breaking up with him or staying together with him. If you choose to stay with him, you're not welcome in this family. If you want to be in this family, you will tell him you don't love him and that you never did, or else he won't leave you alone." He said causing me to gasp. With that, him and mom left, dragging my sister and brother out.
I felt so angry, my dad couldn't do this to me. But in reality I knew he could. And I knew I'd have to break up with Dimitri. I couldn't have my family hate me. I had to do this and I was going to do it today before I changed my mind.
But I wasn't going to let this break up last long. I was going to convince my parents to let me be with Dimitri. And I will make sure, I'll be back with Dimitri. I had just lost him and I don't want to lose him again. And I won't. That's a promise.
