《Dusk & Dawn》Chapter 40

Everything was going to plan. The bar was being coated and sealed so the wood would be protected from any spillages. The people I had organised weeks ago have arrived and were going to and from the furniture truck carrying out the old worn out tables and chairs and bringing in the new ones to replace them. I stacked the new glassware over the bar and wrapped up the old ones in newspaper just in case Jim might want to keep them.
While I was reaching up to put the last glass into place I saw Mason standing at the door with wide eyes.
"Mase! Over here!" I waved him down. He slowly walked over, his eyes darting from one part of the room to the other.
"Quinn, did you organise this?" He kept eyeing everything. The sudden feeling of dread overcame me. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. Panic started to overtake me.
"Um, sort of. Everybody wanted to help Jim out since he helped them over the years. Do you think he'll like it, or have I done something really, really stupid?" I gnawed at my lip almost drawing blood trying to read his expression.
He walked around the bar and stood towering over me so I had no choice but to look up at him. I swallowed hard and his eyes softened. His hands firmly grabbed my waist and pulled me in roughly so there was no space between us. His hands squeezed at my hips.
"It's perfect. You're so fucking perfect. You're such a beautiful person, I just cant wrap my head around it." He said smiling down at me with those sexy dimples. My body felt limp as he pulled away, he had left me feeling like jelly, yet again.

"Is it hot in here?" I asked, looking around trying to avoid looking at him. He laughed a deep gorgeous laugh. It was the best sound in the world I'd decided.
"Hey Quinn, we're almost done." One of the furniture removalists said as he packed up the trolley.
"Awesome. Thank you so much for your help guys. Here, take one of these." I handed them some plain flyers I had written out and photocopied with the time and details of tonight's show.
"Thanks, we'll be here for sure, we wanna see Jim's face." They began passing them out among the volunteers.
"So, do you want me to stall Jim until it's opening time?" Mason asked, leaning an elbow on the bar.
"That'd be great. Just tell him we had a free afternoon so we set up all the drinks and stuff for him so he doesn't get suspicious."
Mason nodded silently and leaded forward, elbows still on the bar. The air between us was electric. I notice his eyes look down at my lips and back up to my eyes. I lean in slightly and he touched my chin lightly with his thumb to tilt my lips towards his. They sweetly brushed against mine in a slow movement before pulling away.
Masons lips upturn into a slight smile, "He's going to love it."
