《Dusk & Dawn》Chapter 31

I'd just finished making breakfast when Lexi and Zach came walking from his bedroom.

"Mmm, something smells super good!" Zach said, stretching his arms high above his head. He and Lexi both looked tired so I could give one guess what they were up to last night. I'm just glad I wasn't within hearing vicinity. Lexi was pretty vocal about what went on in bed which I had learned over the summer through paper thin walls.

"I made it for you guys since I'm not going to college today." I placed the bacon rashers on each of their plates and served them with a smile. It's amazing what a plateful of good food can do to a persons mood.

"Aww thanks babe, your bacon and eggs are exactly what I need this morning." Lexi smiled at me. She glanced over at Zach and he paused, his egg falling off his fork. Lexi fed him some of hers and she wiped the corner of his mouth with her thumb. I turned around to give them some privacy, it felt like I was intruding on an intimate moment so I pretended to begin washing up.

"Hey Mase, breakfasts' ready!" I yelled, scrubbing at the pan.

"Yes mother!" He said leaning against the kitchen doorway. I jumped not even knowing he was awake yet.

"You catching a ride with us today Quinn?" Mason asked taking his plate from the bench and took a seat.

"I haven't got college today." I shook my head. I was told I was too far behind in fees to continue but I didn't know how to break it to them just yet.

"Sorry ma'am but you'll have to defer until next semester." Was what the business office attendant had said. That was fine by me, I didn't mind finding a second job to work during the day. I just had to try and keep it from everyone else. I didn't want them to waste any more money on me. I had gotten myself in this mess so I had to clean it up myself.

"What are you gonna do all day?" He asked, slowly eating his breakfast and watching me.

"I've got some errands to run." I said trying to remain vague.

"Do you need a ride?" He asked, collecting all of the plate and bringing them to the sink.

"Thanks for breakfast Quinn, it hit the spot." Zach smiled as he and Lexi went back to the bedroom.

"Uh, a ride? No, that's okay. I need the exercise." I didn't want him to drive me because I'd already mooched off him enough as it was. He turned my face to look at him and held my gaze.

"If you ever need anything, just ask me. I'd do anything for you Quinn." He brushed my bangs behind my ear which brought our faces even closer. I nodded and looked down at the ground not knowing how to respond.

He'd do anything for me? Is that something just friends say to friends? Well, I'd do anything for Lexi so it must be true.

I watched from the corner of my eye as he walked out to his car and let out a breath. Living with him was going to be harder than I thought. He always looked and smelled so enticingly good. It was like having temptation dangling in front of me 24/7. I had to get my own place soon before I caved. My resolve was waning every day. I'm not sure how much longer I can stay away...
