Chapter 140 The frail and sickly powerful minister
The moon is as cool as water.
The cool night wind blew the leaves in the garden, and there were occasional insects chirping in the grass. The young man in black robe closed his eyes and leaned against the pavilion. His pale and tired face was as delicate as white porcelain under the moonlight. Fragile beauty.
Jing Ji, who was resting on his lap, raised his head to see this scene, and subconsciously reached out his hand, grabbed the young man's thin wrist and clasped it firmly in his palm, pretending to be nonchalant and asking, "I sent the imperial physician to Mr. Why don't you let him help?"
"It's nothing to see, it's all old."
Lin Xiaodong's answer remained the same, he opened his eyes calmly, looked down at Jing Ji, stretched out his hand and brushed a blade of grass from his hair, his movements were careful and gentle.
"Your Majesty has grown up," he said in a sigh-like tone.
But Jing Ji frowned in dissatisfaction: "I am no longer a child."
"Yes yes yes." Lin Xiaodong replied perfunctorily.
Only Lin Dongqing has the courage to speak to a pilgrim with such an attitude.
Jing Ji thought about it, and his clenched brows loosened unconsciously.
After all, Lin Xiaodong's attitude, doesn't this just prove that his position in the mind of his husband is different?
He was quiet for a moment, but he still couldn't hold back, and asked beside him, "After so many years, why hasn't my husband married a wife? Is it because he has a heart?"
Lin Xiaodong's lips curled up unconsciously: "Yes."
Jing Ji choked, he really didn't think he would get a positive answer, it was obvious that the spies who were placed in the Lin Mansion have always been... The young emperor's eyes became colder, but he still asked in a nonchalant tone: "Oh, who is the beauty? Maybe I can be a matchmaker for Mr.
The smile in Lin Xiaodong's eyes deepened, but no matter how Jing Ji asked, he didn't want to say any more.
"Sir, don't bring this! You are the crime of deceiving the king!"
Jing Ji widened his eyes and complained dissatisfiedly like a child who didn't want candy.
The pillow and knees that I was thinking about at first are no longer fragrant. Now Jing Ji just wants to quickly know who that woman is. If she has not left the cabinet, send her to get married. If she is married, she will arrange for her husband to leave Beijing. In short, the farther away from Lin Xiaodong, the better!
But Lin Xiaodong saw Jing Ji's sternness at a glance, he let the other party make trouble, leaned lazily on the pillar, and looked like he didn't eat hard or soft: "Your Majesty, this minister is convicted."
But he didn't mention the name of his sweetheart.
Jing Ji was so mad at him that he could only close his eyes fiercely, pretending to be asleep, turning his head and ignoring him.
Half of it was because he was really angry, and the other half, of course, was pretending.
With his eyes closed, the young emperor flashed countless secret thoughts in his heart. He even calmly judged through the information collected by the spies which big family in the capital was most likely to get on the line of the Minister of Officials through marriage, and if If the two sides join forces, how will it affect their own status?
If possible, he really... doesn't want to be too ugly with Mr.

Just as Jing Ji was thinking quickly, a cold hand covered his eyes.
"Your Majesty," Lin Xiaodong said softly, "sleep. You may not have a good rest for a long time."
In the darkness, Jing Ji blinked, although he knew that this was probably just superficial comfort, but a tight string in his head slowly loosened.
He didn't move, just kept this posture to relax his body, and after a while, he actually fell asleep.
Hearing the sound of breathing gradually becoming even, Lin Xiaodong finally put down his hand.
Busy with government affairs during the day, and visiting the palace at night, if it weren't for Dr. Nian's life-sustaining medicine, this body wouldn't be able to support it long ago. The young man suppressed the tickling from his throat and asked for a cloak from Director You, who was standing guard outside the pavilion.
"Sir Lin, here it is."
The little eunuch who used to follow Jing Ji with trepidation has long since become the general manager of the palace that the minister of the court has to give three points of thinness, but You Shu still maintained the respectful attitude towards Lin Dongqing, and whispered: " It's freezing cold in the garden at night, Lord Lin, I got one for you too."
Lin Xiaodong glanced at him, and You Shu bowed his head respectfully, not looking at him.
After a long while, he smiled lightly: "I don't have to."
"Yes."
Upon seeing this, You Shu did not continue to persuade, but just retreated outside the pavilion again, holding the wind lantern in his hand, standing motionless in the night like a stone statue.
Lin Xiaodong looked at his back, thinking that this little eunuch under Jingji's hands is indeed a smart person, but he just doesn't know what his temperament is and whether he will eat him in the future.
In recent years, due to various "accidents", his eyeliner in the palace has lost more than half of his connections. It is estimated that most of them are the work of the unremarkable eunuch in front of him.
Lin Xiaodong yawned while thinking, he was also a little sleepy, and his legs were a little numb. But whether it was out of the duty of a courtier or selfishness, Lin Xiaodong hoped that Jing Ji could get a good night's sleep.
So he could only lean on the pillar drowsily, waiting for the dawn.
However, just as Lin Xiaodong's consciousness was about to sink into darkness, a hand brushed against his cheek.
He woke up suddenly: "Who-"
"Shhh," the man whispered, staring at him with an extremely suppressed and extremely deep gaze, "it's me."
Lin Xiaodong opened his eyes slightly. His back was against the railing, and he was trapped in the corner in a completely suppressed state, like a prey trapped in a spider web with nowhere to escape. He fixedly looked at the imposing young emperor in front of him. He looked exactly the same, but those dark eyes like the night gave people a completely different sense of oppression.
After a few breaths, the young man's tense body gradually relaxed, and the corners of his lips unconsciously brought a smile.
"Too slow," he complained, but there was not much reproach in his tone.
"......Feel sorry."
It was obviously amnesia caused by the impact of spiritual power after Lin Xiaodong recovered his memory, but Gu Xi did not mention it. His memory was still at the end of his last life, so his aura seemed a little chaotic, like a beast that had been forced to the limit and had no way to retreat, and his eyes were staring at Lin Xiaodong, as if trying to make the other person look deeper. Burned deep into the eyes.

Lin Xiaodong could feel that Gu Xi's current state was not quite right. Before, he had been trying to use his spiritual power to stimulate the boy, but after Jing Ji was seriously ill, he no longer dared to do so. Now that Gu Xi came back, he still felt a sense of disobedience, as if a soul had been divided into two halves and had not fully merged.
"What are you..." The young man opened his mouth and wanted to ask clearly, but Gu Xi seemed to be finally unbearable, and directly pressed the back of his head and kissed him fiercely.
"Um...wait..."
The kiss was so rude that it was almost biting, Lin Xiaodong couldn't help struggling under the pain, but was suppressed by Gu Xi who was still in the concept of "killing his lover with his own hands" without hesitation. The huge fear brought his reason to the verge of madness. He could only use this method to confirm the existence of the person in his arms. The clasped hands seemed to melt the young man into his own blood, and Lederin Xiaodong could hardly breathe. gas.
With his back to the pavilion, You Shu heard the slight water splashes and intermittent murmurs behind him, his face was pale, his body was stiff, and the wind lantern in his hand almost hit the ground.
Your Majesty and Lord Lin, unexpectedly... unexpectedly...
But You Shu remembered Jingji's unusual attention and unusual attitude towards Lin Xiaodong on weekdays. It was not something that a "love minister" could simply summarize, and he felt a little bit of it was right.
He couldn't hear the conversation between Lin Xiaodong and Gu Xi where he was standing, so he could only judge the relationship between the two based on some vague words.
"Don't be shy...kill..."
"The last life, I don't want to..."
"He's also you, cough... I can't do it."
But these whispering voices only lasted for a stick of incense before quieting down.
Afterwards, Lin Xiaodong's low cough sounded behind him: "Manager You, please send Your Majesty back to the bedroom."
You Shu turned around abruptly, and what he saw was a young man wrapped in a cape standing behind him, his long hair was slightly messy draped over his shoulders, the strap of the cape around his neck was fastened well, and a faint light appeared on his pale cheeks. Blush, even at night, it can be seen that his lips are a little too red, as if they have just been smashed/smashed, and there is a faint water light.
Probably noticing Yu Shu's gaze, Lin Xiaodong coughed uncomfortably, turned his head away, and ordered in a low voice, "Don't mention what happened tonight to Your Majesty." Then he left quickly.
But You Shu still didn't understand, what do you mean not to mention it to His Majesty?
Could it be that the person who was with Lord Lin just now was not Your Majesty? !
He looked at the young emperor who was lying unconscious in the pavilion, and suddenly took a deep breath in fear.
Although he hadn't slept all night, You Shu was not sleepy at all. He waited anxiously until dawn, and when Jing Ji woke up rubbing his temples, he cautiously reported, "Your Majesty, Lord Lin has returned to the manor."
"Really...hiss." Jing Ji suddenly covered his torn lips, frowning tightly, thinking that he just slept, why is there an extra wound on his lips?
But he didn't care much, just turned his eyes to You Shu who was hanging his head aside: "Did you say anything before Mr.
You Shu hesitated for a moment. Although he was a definite royalist, for some reason, he still obeyed Lin Dongqing on this matter: "No."
This is the palace garden, no matter what, it is impossible for anyone to sneak in, let alone in front of His Majesty.
So, sure enough, Lord Lin was still having trouble with His Majesty, right?
I heard that Lord Lin has been on the battlefield before. Although he is only a staff officer, he must also have some martial arts.
It's really embarrassing to be knocked out halfway through the kiss.
You Shu served Jing Ji and put on his clothes with a sympathetic look, which made the young emperor feel a chill for a while.
Lin House.
"Sir, you didn't rest much last night, are you going to the court today?"
Xie Chen asked worriedly while tying Lin Xiaodong's robe: "The government can't be dealt with, you have to pay more attention to your body."
Lin Xiaodong said "um", but did not take Xie Chen's words to heart.
He was still thinking about what Gu Xi told him last night. There were two dominant consciousnesses in one body. This kind of thing should never have happened, but fortunately it wasn't one body and two souls, and it wasn't the worst.
To put it simply, it is more similar to the temporary schizophrenia caused by stimulation. This problem can be solved as long as Gu Xi's consciousness returns to the headquarters. In this world, the dominant one is still Jing Ji. Unless Jing Ji falls asleep or enters a subconscious state like before, Gu Xi can appear.
"Don't be too kind to him," with a jealous attitude of "don't even think about what I can't eat", Gu Xi solemnly told Lin Xiaodong last night, "What kind of person is 'I'? You know, this little wolf cub has been eyeing you for a long time."
Lin Xiaodong: "...Are you pitting yourself like that?"
He wanted to laugh a little, don't talk about the little wolf cub, Gu Xi, the big tailed wolf, has already eaten him up, so how dare you say this?
But it is undeniable that Gu Xi's return really made him feel at ease, so Lin Xiaodong did not take a tough attitude in the courtroom to ask Jing Ji to send troops, which made the young emperor sitting on the dragon chair cry for a long time. tone.
It seems that last night's chat was still useful.
But Lin Xiaodong was not alone in the main battle faction in the court. After he kept silent, another person soon stood up.
"Your Majesty, I have something to say!"
Jing Ji narrowed his eyes and looked at the man, who was also a familiar face.
Guo Xinwen is a student in the Imperial Academy.
Due to Guo Xinwen's unremitting efforts to oppose Lin Dongqing in the court over the past few years, Jing Ji also took this name in his heart. He was able to jump from a small sixth-grade editor to a fourth-grade attendant in just a few years. It was also because of Jing Ji's secret support.
Guo Xinwen is a loyal minister, but he has a fiery temper and is not upright. Although Jing Ji likes his loyalty, he has always been troubled by this man's blunt and stubborn personality, so that when he hears his advice, he starts to have a headache.
He didn't intend to let Guo Xinwen speak, but after noticing that Lin Xiaodong lowered his eyes and looked at his heart, Jing Ji's heart moved, and he nodded, "Speak."
"Your Majesty, it is early spring now. If you don't mobilize grain and grass at this time, it will be too late to wait until the day when the grass in the northern Xinjiang is full of horse fat!"
Guo Xinwen's words were eloquent and sincere, and he analyzed the situation in northern Xinjiang from the right time, place, and various aspects. In fact, it was basically the same as what Lin Xiaodong said in the palace last night, but Guo Xinwen added a very important point here. The key point -
It was the last wish of the ancestors to recover the northern border.
Jing Ji did not have much affection for his father, who died early, but he admired Jing, the founding emperor of Jing Dynasty very much. When Jing was attacked by enemies, he had to cede a city in order to appease the army of Shan Yu, who was eyeing the border. The princess was sent to marry, and eventually the youngest daughter, whom she loved most, died alone in the wind and snow in the northern Xinjiang.
This incident is the regret of Jing's life, and it is also a great humiliation that cannot be erased by the royal family of Jing Dynasty.
Now that Guo Xinwen dared to mention this matter in the court, all the ministers could not help but sweat for him in their hearts.
However, it seems that Guo Xinwen himself did not notice the treacherous atmosphere around him and the gradually gloomy face of the young emperor above, and still stood in the hall and made a generous speech: "...Jing Dynasty frontier people have suffered from harassment/harassment in the northern border all the year round. , the land, mountains and rivers have fallen into the hands of thieves for nearly one hundred and thirty-six years, Your Majesty, I implore you to order immediately and send troops to the northern border!"
Guo Xinwen's loud voice echoed in the silent palace, and after a while, Jing Ji suddenly sneered.
"Guo Xinwen," he said calmly, glancing at the young man who had been silent at the front, "What do you think, sir?"
Lin Xiaodong didn't raise his head, just stepped back half a step, raised his official robe and knelt down.
"My minister, I beg your majesty to send troops to the northern border!"
"Okay, okay, okay," Jing Ji laughed instead of anger. He watched helplessly as the courtiers knelt down behind the young man. How could he not know that this was a situation that Lin Xiaodong had planned early on?
Jing Ji stood up and stared indifferently at the ministers who were bowing down to him, knowing that he had to make a decision this time.
Guo Xinwen belongs to his own faction. If he still wants to use this piece, he must be consistent with the other party on this matter. It was Lin Dongqing who saw through this, so he contacted Guo Xinwen privately... But this straight and violent temper would actually cooperate with Lin Dongqing, who was regarded as a thorn in his side in peace, which was indeed something he didn't expect.
As for?
He looked at the black-robed youth kneeling in front of him and couldn't help thinking.
Is it really so important to you to recover the northern Xinjiang?
"I agree," In the end, it was Jing Ji who took the initiative to break the deadly silence, he said in a commanding tone without the slightest emotion, "General Zhao, this northern expedition, it's up to you to lead the army to fight. ."
After saying that, he threw his sleeves and left the hall.

The life of a teenage hellworlder
We've all heard of the trope that Earth is a deadly planet by galactic standard; and has thus honed humanity into a ruthless species bent on surviving at all costs. As it turns out, that trope is true. Sapient species that evolve on safe planets develop to be peaceful and compassionate - and the ones that do on dangerous ones become violent and selfish out of need - usually wiping themselves out. But obviously, not every violent species drives itself to extinction - resulting in them being feared and ostracized - including humans. The life of a teenage hellworlder is a sci-fi slice of life story that revolves mainly around Thomas, a sixteen-year-old New Britannian attending a Xeno high school, who befriends a lonely apex predator named Javqua. Getting written by two amateur teen writers, things may sometimes be inconsistent or be confusing - feel free to comment and point out these problems. Gore, profanity, and traumatizing content tags are only for minor events in the story and do not happen often. Chapters are around 1k - 2k words - pretty short, but that's because we're all busy with our own lives and school. Trust us - we would gladly upload 5k word chapters if we could. We tend to upload new chapters every Saturday or Sunday. Please consider supporting us on Patreon!

Museum of Deadly Beasts
Lin Jin never imagined he would ever transmigrate. And to such a peculiar world at that. Here, deadly beasts were regarded as sacred, and thankfully, he owned a museum for deadly beasts. “Master, this is just a dying little tortoise…” “What tortoise? This is a rare species that contains the blood of a Black Tortoise and could be promoted up to level seven.” “What about this shedding mongrel?” “Mongrel? How narrow-minded. This is a branch descendant of the snarling hound with a hint of Kirin’s blood. Take my word for it and sign the blood contract at once. I guarantee you that you’ll soar to success and be on your path to invincibility!”

2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
