Chapter 35 The Innocent Fool
Central Star, in the Imperial Court.
Not long after the banquet started, the glamorous noble men and women, holding champagne, gathered around the table in twos and threes, chatting about the interesting things that happened in the high society recently, and occasionally teasing each other about a lady who was out of fashion.
The life of the nobles is extravagant and boring. For them, the only fun is to discuss these gossip privacy, and some novelties that can show their noble status--
For example, Earl Lian brought a humanoid creature that grew on an unknown planet today.
It has no limbs, but has two long, vine-like tentacles. It should have been rooted in the soil to absorb nutrients, but in order to fully show the whole picture of its "little pet" to other nobles, even the earl sent someone to put its The roots were uprooted and placed in a display cabinet similar to a transparent fish tank for viewing.
Like human beings, this creature has the most basic emotions, anger and sorrow, and has certain language and communication skills, but human beings cannot understand its language, nor do they know that it is not performing, but because of hunger. and fear.
But even if they knew, they wouldn't care.
"Novelty is novelty," a lady covered her face with a fan and said with a smile, "it's just that this thing looks really flattering, and it has no beauty at all."
"That's right, even the Earl didn't trim it. This tentacle looks really disgusting."
Some people miss it: "If you want to talk about art and charm, you have to be a mermaid."
The voice fell, and the surroundings were silent for a second.
The nobles remembered the graceful figure of the mermaid swimming in the water, and the legendary ethereal voice that was comparable to the sounds of nature, and immediately nodded in agreement: "That's right. It's a pity, it's just too disobedient, there's no way to tune/teach."
The old king came over cheerfully. He liked to interact with other nobles at the banquet, listening to people touting him, and he also called himself "close to the people". Hearing this sentence, he smiled at the prince and said, "Tonight, the prince will send you a mysterious surprise, guess what?"
The prince was surprised: "It won't be a mermaid, will it?!"
"That's right!" The old king looked at the amazed eyes of the people around him, both triumphant and unpleasant.
It's good to have a son who is capable and thoughtful, but he was born in the royal family, especially when his body starts to decay over time...not necessarily a good thing.
"His Royal Highness is here-"
Coincidentally, a squire's summons came from outside. The nobles turned their heads to look towards the entrance of the banquet, and saw that the door was slowly opening, and Lu Xing, wearing a black tuxedo, walked into the hall with a calm smile.

But the eyes of all the nobles focused on Lin Xiaodong beside him. The little mermaid was sitting on a cloud-shaped household aircraft, with a big silver tail stuck in fluffy and soft white cotton. Seeing so many humans, the end of the tail There was also some nervous trembling.
He wore a long shawl over his upper body, covering his tail. I don't know what kind of thread this shawl was made of. The material that was originally transparent like a stream of water actually refracts a brilliant light under the light, as if a piece of starlight was cut and draped around the body.
The whole place was silent.
Lu Xing took Yun Duo, passed through the dumbfounded nobles in the banquet hall, came to the old king, and bowed to him impeccably: "Father, the matter you instructed my son has already been made in advance. It's done."
But the old king didn't look at him at all.
He just stared at Lin Xiaodong madly, and said, "Okay, okay, okay!"
As he said that, he was about to reach out to grab the mermaid's arm, but was intercepted by a water film halfway through.
"What is this?" The old king finally reacted. He was a little annoyed at his gaffe. He glared at his son who was standing quietly beside him, "This is all my own, why did you turn on the shielding system?"
"Please forgive me," Lu Xing said neither humble nor arrogant, "I am considering the safety of you and the other nobles present. He has just come here from an alien planet, and he does not know what germs he has been infected with. He must wait for a while to observe. Row."
But the old king was very dissatisfied with his explanation: "The previous batch, there were so many mermaids, you didn't do that either?"
"So they're all dead," Lu Xing said lightly, "and the cause of death is unknown. Father, it's not worth repeating the same mistakes."
The old king's face was blue and white for a while, and finally he snorted coldly and walked away in anger.
After he left, the nobles who only dared to watch the quarrel between the father and son from a distance dared to step forward, and countless compliments rained down on Lu Xing: "His Royal Highness is really young. have to......"
"To be able to actually grab the mermaid from Gu Xi's hands, amazing!"
"But the guy with the surname Gu also deserves it. I heard that he died in the universe, and there is no one to collect the corpse."
Hearing Gu Xi's name, the little mermaid who was sitting on the cloud turned his head and looked over there.
Lin Xiaodong lost all his expressions since he entered the palace, Lu Xing was well aware of his behavior, and even warned him softly before entering the door: "I know you don't like those nobles, but you have to believe me, no matter what I do. What you say at the banquet is definitely not true. As long as you endure tonight, I will take you back and tell you where your people are buried, okay?"

He agreed.
But this does not mean that Lin Xiaodong will give these people a good face.
Lu Xing coughed lightly and reminded him to pay more attention with his eyes, at least not to be too obvious.
"Tong," Lin Xiaodong, who was the focus of the crowd, asked with a casual flick of his tail, "What do you think Lu Xing wanted to do when he brought me here dressed like this?"
System: "Show your abilities to other nobles?"
"That's just one aspect of it."
So what else? The system can't figure it out.
"I don't know if you noticed that Lu Xing looked at the eyes of those nobles when no one was paying attention." Lin Xiaodong's lips curled into a playful smile, "You know what kind of look he gave me. feel it?"
The system asked subconsciously, "What?"
"Sober lunatic." Lin Xiaodong said word by word.
Traveling through the splendid imperial court, chatting with the nobles above hundreds of millions of ordinary people, both the prince and the viscount praised him, but Lu Xing's eyes were cold from beginning to end.
Lin Xiaodong thought that acting in front of young people was enough to be careless, but he didn't expect that Lu Xing would not even bother to act for these people. Sometimes it's so boring, he just ignores the past with a smile on the champagne.
The parties were embarrassed, but others thought that Lu Xing was very "character" and "has the restraint of a great nobleman".
"Your Highness, can you let him sing for us?" It was the woman with the fan just now, who looked at Lu Xing with a look of admiration mixed with longing. But the young man just shook his head and looked at the little mermaid who was stuffing his cheeks like a hamster: "I said it doesn't matter, you have to ask him yourself."
"Why?" the woman wondered, "but isn't he your pet now?"
"Not a pet."
"what?"
"I said, it's not a pet." Lu Xing lifted his eyelids, tilted his head and glanced at her with a smile, and the woman who was still smiling suddenly broke out in cold sweat: "Hold, I'm sorry, Your Highness, I offended. "
"Humph!"
Suddenly there was a heavy snort from the crowd. At the same time, the cloud that was floating in mid-air was kicked from behind and lost his balance. The little mermaid exclaimed and was about to fall to the ground. .
Lu Xing stepped forward abruptly and took him into his arms at the last moment.
"Who did it?" He turned his head, his eyes suddenly became fierce, "stand up for me!"
"What's wrong with me?"
A middle-aged man said loudly with a look of disdain.
He is even the earl and a die-hard loyalist of the old king. Because the old king was dissatisfied with the prince recently, he fanned the flames and put his treasure on the second prince who was just born.
The "little pet" he brought today did not receive the praise he imagined, and was completely stole the limelight by Lu Xing. Whether it was to show his sincerity to the old king or to suppress Lu Xing, he didn't think he was this What's wrong with kicking.
"It's so pitiful," he shook his head, looking down at the little mermaid who was being protected by Lu Xing in his arms, with a hint of contemptuous pity in his tone, "You don't know that you have been abandoned by him, right? Your clan , but all of them were killed by him, and they were even made into specimens and placed in the palace day and night, and you still recognize the thief as your father?"
"I didn't kill them!" Lu Xing growled, "It's obviously you-"
His eyes were red and his expression was hideous, and he looked like a gaffe that did not conform to the noble demeanor.
The eyes of the nobles around him gradually changed, and even the smile on the count's face gradually became brighter. He can't wait for Lu Xing to lose his mind completely in front of everyone, because he has already seen the figure of the old king appear in the distance - let's make it bigger! If there is more trouble, Lu Xing's position as the prince will not be guaranteed!
"do not talk."
Suddenly, a soft call interrupted Earl Lian's delusions.
The little mermaid stretched out his hand, touched Lu Xing's blue veins that suddenly burst out because of his emotional excitement, and whispered, "I believe in you."
Lu Xing was taken aback.
He slowly lowered his head and looked at Lin Xiaodong.
The little mermaid's eyes were full of trust, crystal clear, without the slightest haze.
The image of the man flashed in his memory, Lu Xing closed his eyes and regained his senses.
"Sorry," he picked up Lin Xiaodong, carefully put it back on the clouds, and nodded lightly at the nobles who were watching the show, "I lost my temper."
"Ding, Good Person Card Fragment +1."
"Really, it's not easy." Lin Xiaodong sighed sincerely, "This road awakening is really too difficult, it's been a long time, and finally another piece."
System: "Then there are three more, who do you think they are?"
"Well," Lin Xiaodong looked around, his eyes finally fell on the gloomy old king outside the crowd, "it should be him."
"He?" The system's tone rose slightly, "But how are you going to approach this guy?"
Lin Xiaodong smiled.
"My dear system," he said in a cadence-like manner, "you won't believe that Lu Xing will really take me back?"

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story. This story is entirely pre-written, and will have one chapter released per week. If you want to read it all ahead of schedule and get access to some premium-exclusive bonus content, the entire book is available for purchase; links to the appropriate storefront pages will be posted at the end of each chapter.
