Lost to the Mist
The year is 1870, the Franco-Prussian War rages on, and a newly formed unit -14e Régiment de Cuirassiers- armed with the latest in weaponry and training are marching to join the rest of the Brigade in an offensive to stall the Prussian advance. However, as on the march they run across a strange grey fog, one that obscures all vision within. Despite the risk, they march onward, upon riding through the mist, all 1200 find themselves transported to a fantasy realm seeming stuck in the medieval ages. Having to lead this Regiment of elite cavalry is a young blonde haired man by the name of Luc Demoulin. Being a newly promoted Colonel and untested Commander, it’s up to him to protect all those within the 14th as they try to figure out where they are and establish something of a home in this new world they find themselves. To help in this effort are a small population of elves led by a beautiful elven woman by the name of Calondra, whom the 14th had saved from a life of slavery mere moments after arriving…

"Look, I'm kind of tired of this whole God-business. Would you like to take over?" Up-and-coming Delinquent Kaharu Kahari was a normal person for the longest time of his life. But when he entered High School, an incident occurred. He called it "The Turn-Around" and refuses to speak about it with anyone. This incident changed him as a person, and he became a delinquent. One day, a rival delinquent annoys Kaharu to the point of a fight breaking out. Kaharu wins, but is called to the principal's office. Kaharu considers this a victory, but his family disagrees. They decide to send him to a local shrine as a punishment, claiming that he needs a 'Divine Intervention' in his life. Now Kaharu's forced to spend 3 hours a day at the local and very obscure shrine, working. 3 days into the Shrine business, Kaharu suddenly sees a middle-aged man in strange traditional clothes with a bright light around him. The strange man is visibly tired. The Old man praises Kaharu for his hard work the past 3 days, and continues to... offer him the position of God over this shrine! He claims that he's exhausted by it and wishes for an heir. Kaharu accepts eagerly in hopes of doing what he wants. But will the title really grant him what he wants, or is there more to it?

After the Long Burn is an anthology of short science fiction stories set in the distant Ionad System. Author's Note: I thought I might try something a little different with this story. Rather than one story, it is six stories of varying length, each taking a slightly different perspective to tell a larger story. Some are more actioney, others more cerebral but I hope there will be something for everyone. Stories over 7000 words, with the exception of the titular After the Long Burn, will be published in two parts. I anticipate an upload schedule of one part every other day.
