《The Prince's Stubborn Mate》Chapter 38- The Ring

The blinding lights from the flashing cameras that were focused on Demetri and I stunned me momentarily causing me to freeze in my spot while some of the royal guards came and attempted to push the paparazzi back a bit.
I felt a large hand in the center of my back urging me forward. It couldn't be Demetri's hand because he was before me and my hand was in his.
I turned my head slightly to the side to see Alpha Alexander smirking at me as he gently pushed me forward.
"Just keep walking." He shouted over the questions from the paparazzi. "Ignore them."
How the fuck am I supposed to ignore them when they have mics and recorders shoved in my face?!
They were shouting questions at Demetri, Alpha Alexander, Luna Alaine and Myself.
"Prince Demetri, is this your mate?"
"Alpha Alexander are you happy with your new daughter in law?"
"Prince Demetri is it true that your mate attends Gregory Hawk Academy and is a rebel?"
"Lady Jessabell, how does it feel to be apart of one of the most prestigious families of the werewolf world?"
"Alpha Alexander, what are your plans regarding the evolution of the royal court of appeal?"
"Luna Alaine, are you supportive of your husbands decision to ban all contraceptives for were females?"
Okay, that one got me.
Did she just say ban all contraceptives?
No, no no, that definitely isn't what she said, it couldn't be.
"Lady Jessabell, now that the laws against werewolf contraceptives have been passed, how long do you think it will take for you to produce an heir?"
That threw me to the sharks, because as soon as I convinced myself that that wasn't what the lady on my left said the guy on my right solidified my ultimate doom.
My momentary distraction caused me to stumble a little but I was immediately righted by both the alpha and the Luna who were walking on either side of me shadowing me while guards shadowed them.
Pushing through the group of reporters we finally came to the three Bentley vehicles that were awaiting our arrival.
The Alpha and Luna took the first car while Demetri shoved me into the second car before he got in after me.
I looked out the back windscreen to see my parents enter the third with a big burly guard.
The other guards got in the other royal vehicles waiting in the parking lot.
Scooting as far away from Demetri as possible, I folded my arms across my chest and leant my head against the glass.
"Are you alright?" He asked reaching out to brush my arm with his fingers.
He received only a curt nod from me. I don't know what he'll do to me if I piss him off again so I kept my mouth shut.
"I know the paparazzi can be a bit scary but you'll get used to it, and you will have guards whenever you go out so you will be okay." He assured me but I didn't respond at all this time.
After a moment of silence, I finally looked over at him to see him on his phone. Feeling my eyes on him, he looked up at me and smiled, I didn't return the smile.
"Did you call them?" I asked, referring to the myriad of paparazzi outside the hospital.
"No." He said, even though he said it truthfully, something was still off about that one word response, almost like there was more to say.
"But you know who did." I said it more of a statement rather than as a question.
"Yes, it was my father." He stated almost reluctantly and my mind immediately flashed back to the mischievous smirk that Alpha Alexander gave me as we pushed through the crowd.
"Why am I not surprised." I stated sarcastically rolling my eyes an looking out the window once more.
"He thought it was time that you came out."
I couldn't help but laugh at the irony of his statement.
"Yes, I came out of the hospital at the perfect time." I chuckled drily.
"That was a bad joke Jessabell." Demetri grumbled slanting me a look with his slate grey eyes.
"Wasn't a joke, it's fucking reality." I muttered not intending for him to hear but, of course, he did.
His response was to reach over and pinch my arm as he glared at me.
I just turned and grinned at him. "Keep at it, Demetri, it doesn't bother me anymore." I stated batting my eyelashes at him.
He increased the pressure of the pinch and I unfolded my arms and leant back into the plush leather seat allowing him to hurt me and not really caring although it hurt like a bitch.
I'm just glad that its not anyone that I care about that's in pain.
"You need to start minding you language." Demetri snarled, releasing my arm.
"Of course." I smiled at him resisting the urge to rub at my arm which now had a red bruise.
After another long while of silence, I noticed that all the cars started heading in different directions.
"Where is everyone going?" I asked watching as my parents turned off the road to go back to our house.
"Your parents are going home to get some rest before the rehearsal tonight, My parents have a press conference so they're heading into the city and we're going back to the castle."
"What's the press conference about?" I asked really wanting only to ask about the ban on contraceptives.
"Why don't you ask me what you really want to know? Hmm, Jessabell?" He said slanting me a look that made me slightly angry.
Knowing he wasn't going to yell me anything until I asked the question, I asked.
"Why are they placing a ban on contraceptives?"
"Because its not necessary, and females shouldn't be taking them anyway. Its harmful to the body."
"Necessary for what?"
"Population regrowth."
"With all due respect, Prince Demetri, the werewolf population is already very large, uncontrolled reproduction of this race can lead to overpopulation which would be bad for our economy. Its already bad enough that some wolves don't have jobs but to increase the population would leave them not only fighting for jobs but for food too."
Demetri smiled at me, a full toothy grin of what looked like pride.
"What?" I asked when he looked like he wasn't about to respond.
"You'd make a fine politician, my love." He said pulling me onto his lap and nuzzling my neck.
I pushed him away, but he wouldn't release me so I settled down not having the energy to fight with him.
And I'm hungry too, very hungry.
"Demetri." I said after a shot while of silence,
"I'm hungry." I told him.
"I'll get you something to eat as soon as we get home, just a few more minutes." He said stroking my cheek and I resisted the urge to pull away and cringe from his touch.
"What would you like to eat?"
"I want a hamburger with cheese and bacon and lots of pickles, I want French fries, and a Hershey's sundae pie and chocolate chips and a glass of Chardonnay." I told him watching his eyes widen at my order.

"And you are going to store all of that food where?" He asked me poking my flat belly.
I slapped his hands away.
"I exercise regularly so it'll come off." I rolled my eyes at him, "Are you going to let me have them?"
"You can have anything you want." He stated, his voice had dropped a little lower in an attempt to be seductive as he leaned in.
If I said that he wasn't sexy as hell, then I'd be lying but with what I knew about Demetri, I couldn't help but find him repulsive, so I put my hand in his face and pushed him back a bit.
"I don't want to kiss you." I told him honestly then added, "I want food." When I saw his eyes darken in anger.
My latter statement had lightened the mood and he smiled at me,
"Soon my love." He said returning me back to the seat but not releasing me from his grip.
Not long after, we arrived at the castle and after making our way indoors, Demetri led me into the kitchen.
The royal kitchen was buzzing with life. Chefs, maids, waiters and other royal help were busy in the kitchen.
The busy persons who paused to bow upon our entry wasn't what caught my attention.
The decor of the kitchen had me practically drooling at the sheer beauty and marvelous design of the royal kitchen.
From the marble counter tops to the whiney coral tiled floors, the design was simply magnificent.
Although the kitchen had many persons in there it still maintained the appearance of being spacious and neatly organized.
"Your Majesties, what may I do for you?" A short middle aged looking male inquired bowing to Demetri and I.
"Hello Elijah, may I have a cheeseburger, with bacon and lots of cheese, french fries, a Hershey's sundae pie, chocolate chip cookies and a bottle of Chardonnay for my mate." Demetri said and the majority of the kitchen staff turned to eye me with looks of surprise painted onto their faces.
"Anything else?" Elijah asked professionally while masking his surprise.
"Nothing else, I won't be having anything."
"Can I have something else?" I asked, my attention directed onto Elijah who was still standing before Demetri and I.
"Of course, princess." He said and I grimaced slightly at the title.
"Can I have some strawberry and cookie dough ice cream please?" I asked and he smiled slightly.
"Yes, your majesty, is that all?" He asked and I nodded smiling. "I'll get right to it then."
"I have to go somewhere." Demetri said, turning to look at me.
"Where you going?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Out." He replied evasively making me sigh and roll my eyes.
Reaching up, I placed my hand on his shoulder and looked him in his eyes.
"Demetri, it's okay to tell me that you're going to go see your girlfriend " I said watching his expression morph into one of shock before he completely masked it.
It wasn't the look on his face that gave him away, it was the flicker of light in his eyes that said, 'she's on to me,' that made it clear that my guess was right.
"I'm not going to see my girlfriend." He stated.
"I really don't care if you're going to hook up with a girl or anything else for that matter, it doesn't bother me because you mean nothing to me so just tell me the truth because I have no feelings that you can hurt." I told him meaning every word that I said.
"I mean nothing to you." He mumbled numbly looking at me with haunted eyes.
"Nope." I said casually wanting to hurt him as much as I can.
"Yes Jessabell, I'm going to see my girlfriend." He admitted
"Have fun." I mumbled. I was completely unprepared for the shock of pain that struck my chest.
"I'll be back at five, be ready, we have the rehearsal this evening at six and we cannot be late."
"Coolios." I replied.
"My sisters are going to come and get you so that you may get dressed."
"Bye Demetri."
He grabbed my head and pressed a forceful kiss to my lips, bruising them in the process, before he gently kissed my cheek then he left.
Asswipe. I thought bitterly making my way over to one of the chairs in the kitchen.
"May I sit?" I asked the lady who was engrossed in her chopping of cucumbers.
Engrossed my ass, I knew their ears were all up in my conversation with Demetri.
"Yes my princess." She said and I sat down crossing my arms on the counter before me and resting my head on my arms.
It took about half an hour before my food was ready.
When Elijah placed the plate with the large burger and fries before me, I immediately dug in.
While stuffing my face with burger and fries, another plate was placed with cookies and a slice if pie, a small ice cream dish with a one scoop of strawberry ice cream and a scoop of cookie dough ice cream was accompanied by a glass of wine.
"Thank You." I muttered between bites of fries.
A few people chuckled lightly.
"You're welcome." Elijah said.
Before long, more than half of the burger was gone, the fries was finished, the semi melted ice cream was almost finished. I had eaten three of the four cookies and half of the slice of Hershey's pie.
I was finishing my fourth cookie when Freya, Violet, Kelly, Kyra and Willow walked into the kitchen.
"Hey." Freya addressed me, but my mouth was full so I just waved,
"Heard you got your memories back." Kelly and Kyra said simultaneously.
"Hello Jessabell." Willow addressed me courteously.
"Jessabell, what the hell are you eating?" Violet asked in shocked horror.
By the time the question came out I had swallowed my food and was able to respond.
"Does anyone else find it strange that they talk Together?" I asked, referring to the twins.
"you'll get used to it." Freya told me.
"Hello, Willow." I replied and she gave me a small smile.
"It's called food." I said to Violet, "I'm hungry as fuck."
"You need to keep your figure up Jessabell, you can't be eating like that." She scolded rolling my eyes.
"You sound like coach." I mumbled finishing the burger in two large bites.
"Oh, yes guys, I did get my memories back." I said sweetly, "thank you so much for telling me that your brother was such a dick head."
"We were ordered not to tell you anything about the past, sorry." Kelly said lacking all remorse.
"Well, that makes it so much better." I sarcastically replied.
"Jessabell, stop eating that!" Violet commanded as I continued shoveling pie and ice cream into my mouth.
"Give me a second." I said with my mouth full.
"Come on, we have to go get you dressed for the rehearsals." Kelly said, grabbing my arm and pulling me away from my food.
There was a little ice cream left in the bowl but everything else was finished except the glass of Chardonnay.
"No, my juice." I whined looking at my drink with longing.
I grabbed at the top of the glass in a last ditch attempt to have it as Kelly and Kyra man handled me towards the door.
Tipping the glass to my head I downed the contents of the glass in one go.
"Damn girl!" Freya said looking at me weirdly as I sighed handing the glass to one of the maids that we passed on our way out of the kitchen with a faint 'thank you'.
"I was hungry." I defended now walking with them towards Demetri's room.
"I'm going to check on Harry, I'll be back." Willow said leaving us at Demetri's door.
"Who's Harry?" I inquired in confusion as I opened the door for the girls.
"Her son." Kelly and Kyra said together
"Please stop that, you're creeping me out." I begged looking at them, before what they said finally registered in my brain, "Her what now?"
"Her son." Freya said slowly as if talking to a two year old.
I realized that I was so absorbed in my food that I had completely overlooked the fact that her previously swollen stomach was now flat.
"When did she deliver?" I inquired feeling bad for not Congratulating her.
"On Monday night, she was in the room beside yours." Violet said pulling a dress from the closet.
"She checked out Tuesday afternoon." Freya finished.
"Oh, is she okay?" I couldn't help but be concerned, even if she isn't nice.
"Yeah they're all okay." Freya said "Take off your clothes."
"Whyyy?" I asked suspiciously.
"We have to get you dressed before Demetri returns." Freya said.
"I don't want to wear that, its not really my style." I said looking at the dress which Violet held.
"Mom picked it out." Kelly said
"The press will be there to take note of the Preparations for such a momentous occasion." This from Kyra, who completed her twins statement perfectly.
"Lovely." Was my dry reply as I reluctantly put on the cream and red dress that had little hearts on the collar and long sleeves.
If I'm being honest, it looks like a prep school uniform.
I put on some stockings then pushed my feet into a pair of nude Louboutin pumps.
I sat and allowed Violet to brush my messy red hair. She pulled up the front and made a small bun while leaving the majority of my hair flowing down my back. She did my makeup lightly, giving me a natural look, minus the bright red lipstick.
I wore a black choker paired with baby pink heart earrings.
"Wow!" Freya said, looking at me when I finally stood for their appraisal, "You look nothing like a hawk girl."
"I know, I feel like such a lady." I muttered frowning.
"Here you go Jessabell." Violet said handing me a white Gucci bag that looked strangely familiar.
"Isn't this mine?" I wondered out loud.
"Yes, majority of the female things in Demetri's closet are yours, we each took turns sneaking your stuff over here so you'll always have clothes." Kelly informed me.
"Okay, that's some creepy shit, but okay." I said shrugging as I brushed it off as no big deal.
The door to the bedroom opened admitting Demetri.
Violet rushed towards him and launched herself into his arms.
"Hey Vi." he greeted kissing her head and ruffling her hair.
"Demetri, look!" Kelly said drawing his attention towards me.
"You look wonderful, my love." He said coming to wrap his arms around me and kiss my cheek.
"Thanks."
"We'll leave you two alone." Violet said practically dragging Kelly and Freya to the door, Kyra leaving at her own pace.
When the door closed, Demetri eased away from me.
"I have something for you." He reached into his back pocket and produced a small black velvet box.
"I don't want it."
"You have to take it, its our engagement ring." He said and I rolled my eyes still refusing to take it from him.
"Alright, I'll take off the bracelet if you take the ring." He said as I was about to brush past him and leave the room.
"You're lying."
"No, let me take the bracelet off now," He offered and it was an offer I couldn't refuse.
I held out my left hand and he released the clasp on the bracelet causing it to fall from my wrist.
I cradled my wrist to my chest rubbing at the pale indent in my delicate flesh.
"Give me your finger." He ordered and I obeyed.
Demetri slipped the ring onto my finger and I couldn't help but admire the sparkling diamond ring.
"We should go." He said and I nodded in response.
Sitting in the car as Demetri drove us to the rehearsal, I thought about the absence of the bracelet on my wrist but the new shackle which was on my finger.
"Why'd you take off the bracelet?" I asked out of curiosity
"didn't you want me to remove it?" He asked slanting me a look of confusion before looking back at the road.
"Yes, but you were so eager to remove it in exchange for the ring." I said then something dawned on me.
"What did you do to the ring?" I asked the question but I dreaded the answer that he would give.
"Nothing." he replied evasively and I knew he was lying.
"What the hell did you do?" I asked with barely concealed horror.
"I had my mother spell the ring." He said not looking at me.
"What does the enchantment do, Demetri?"
"You can't leave me, and no other male can touch you or it will shock you. Not enough to be painful but it will be uncomfortable."
I just about died when he explained the purpose of the ring.
I couldn't move, I didn't respond to anything for the next half hour until we got to the council house where the rehearsal was being kept.
"Are you alright?" Demetri asked looking at my unmoving form as he parked the car and killed the engine.
I still didn't move.
