《The Truth about Heather (gxg)》41 💕

The following day was the day of the Christmas performance and so I arrived at the school particularly early so I could hype Heather up. I already knew that she was going to do amazingly, but it wouldn't hurt to be there to give her some words of encouragement.
"Hey Heather Violets," I said, as I walked over to her.
Heather turned to me and her nose crinkled a little, as she smiled back at me.
"Hey, gorgeous. How do I look?" she asked me, as she did a spin in her costume. She was wearing a white dress and she looked beautiful.
"Wow. You look..." I trailed off.
Heather released a soft laugh.
"Thank you, Zoe. I knew I could trust you to make me feel a little better. I know that I have practiced for this performance for a while but my mind keeps wondering what could go wrong. I know, I know, I'm being a total drama queen," she said.
I gave a slight shake of my head.
"No, you're okay," I said.
"I'm probably seriously annoying when I keep stressing, huh?" she asked me.
"No, Heather. You're fine. You've never bothered me," I said, as I walked over to her to adjust her dress slightly on her shoulders. "That's kind of the point of me being your g- good friend, after all," I said, as Theo walked past the two of us with an expression of curiosity upon his face.
It wouldn't be easy to miss Theo, he was dressed in bright colours even now when he was in costume. He always stood out. I supposed that he wanted to, given that he was part of the drama group.

"I made this myself, ladies. What are we thinking?" Theo asked the two of us.
"I'm thinking you look very...original? And bright?" Heather commented, as a slight expression of amusement appeared on her face.
"Why thank you. Now, we should probably get started, huh? We'll see you after the show, Zoe," Theo told me.
I nodded in agreement and then took myself to sit down in the audience.
I hadn't been expecting to sit down next to Drew but that was what happened. My mind had been so focused on Heather that I really hadn't paid much attention to what I was doing.
I cleared my throat but he spoke before I could utter a single syllable.
"Heather should be glad that it was thanks to me that she even got into the drama group. I helped her out with her confidence when she joined our band," Drew boasted.
I felt tempted to roll my eyes at him but I refrained from doing so. At least, temporarily. His words had slightly annoyed me.
"I think Heather got in based on pure talent, actually," I said.
I looked around us for a moment and realised that there were so many other seats in the audience that Drew could have taken.
"What was this? A cunning plan to try to get the two of us to talk to each other again?" I asked him.
"You could look a little happier about the fact that I'm even talking to you, Zoe. I kind of have a lot of things to do now, you know? With my band and now head boy responsibilities, I really haven't had much time to talk to anybody," he stated.

I felt my eyebrows crinkle together slightly at his words, but I would have to wait to ask him any more questions. The performance had begun.
I watched as Heather gave the best performance I had ever seen at our high school, in all honesty, and then got up from the audience once people started to leave, so I could walk backstage.
Drew followed.
I could determine that Heather looked a little overwhelmed by the performance, so I decided to give her some words of encouragement to ease her racing mind.
"You did amazingly, Heather. You were so good!" I told her, as a kind smile made its way onto my face. "Are you okay?" I asked her compassionately.
Heather gave a slight nod of her head as she smiled at me, but then her eyes glanced towards Drew, who she didn't seem so happy to see.
"Meet with me in the music room in ten. We need to talk," he said.
"Since when do you get to boss me around?" Heather asked him.
"Since when did you become better friends with Zoe than you were with me? If it hadn't been for me, the two of you never would have even spoken to each other," Drew said.
Heather gave a shake of her head at his words.
"That's not true. I spoke to Zoe first, actually, a long time ago," Heather said.
I remembered our first meeting momentarily and also remembered how much I hadn't liked her at that point. A lot had changed since then and not only in terms of my relationship with her but in terms of my relationship with Drew, too.
"Grow up, Drew. You're acting like a kid who didn't get the toy car that he wanted," Heather stated.
I swallowed. That was not good. If I knew one thing over my time of being best friends with Drew, then it was that you never wounded his ego.
"I always get what I want, Heather. I mean, have you seen me? Why do you think my band is so successful?" he asked, as he crossed his arms over his chest and leant against the wall nearby.
"I'm going to have to politely ask you to take your ego down by about five notches," Abbie said, as she joined the three of us with an expression of concern upon her face.
I silently thanked her for interjecting the conversation because this was not fun.
"If you're going to keep being such an egotistical and arrogant kid, Drew, then maybe I don't want to be a part of your band anymore," Heather stated.
Drew released a dry laugh, as he stood up straight again.
"Alright then, Violets. If you don't want to be a part of my band then...so be it. Have fun with your new friend, Zoe. Just give it time, she'll probably leave you, too," he said, before walking away.
Heather met my gaze with a sympathetic expression and placed a hand upon my shoulder, as the three of us stared after Drew as he left the main hall.
