《Loving Min Yoongi: How To Love Him》Chapter 23

The next morning, Alex woke early to get a head start and pamper herself a bit. She went back over her notes to make sure there wasn't anything she had forgotten to include for Yoongi's interview. They were taking him to the Nanzoin Temple with the Reclining Budha. Alex was nervous of what Yoongi's reaction would be.

She and Ji-Hoon had taken the other guys to obvious places that suited them, bringing out the side of them that was relaxed and would open them up. For Yoongi, however, Alex didn't want a simple place that would relax him. The reporter in her had done her research, she knew that Yoongi could be very deep and meaningful at his core. She wanted a place that could draw that out of him. Somewhere she could push some of his boundaries, but not too much.

Ji-Hoon had already gotten Yoongi from his room and was knocking on Alex's door so they could head down to the car. Alex answered as she was flinging her bag across her body. "Let's go!"

Yoongi gave her a small smile before he turned to walk to the elevators. He and Ji-Hoon talked on the way to the Temple about music and some new ideas Yoongi was trying out with his digital mixer.

When they arrived, everyone unloaded out of the car. Yoongi looked around and then looked back at Alex with a raised eyebrow. She gave him a sheepish smile and shrugged her shoulders.

She allowed them some time to walk around and take in the sights. Along the way she found a shaded area for them to sit and do some of the filming. Alex took out her notes and started the interview with Yoongi.

"Over the last few years you've really made your mark as a producer in the music industry. Not only have you produced for South Korean artists, you've also made headway with American artists. Is producing something you feel you will always do even after your BTS days?"

Yoongi's eyebrows shot up at her question, "Wow, you're diving right in aren't you?" He laughed as he adjusted his position on the bench. "Music is and always will be my number one passion. I like being able to express how I'm feeling without worry about what someone will think. I want people to be able to relate to my music no matter where they are in life. I've always said that one day BTS will no longer be, and there will be sadness that day, but even after that I know music will always be a part of my life."

Alex smiled as she nodded her head in understanding. Yoongi's passion for music could be heard not only in BTS's songs, but in his own mix tapes as well as the artists he had collaborated with. You didn't need to see the awards he had won to know he was extremely talented and could stay in the music business for a long time to come.

"You often use personal experiences in your lyrics, like when it comes to dealing with your depression and anxiety. Once, you had said you were studying psychology to better understand these conditions as well as be able to help others understand them. During this time, do you think you were been able to pinpoint any one factor or instance that might have triggered your symptoms from the start?"

Yoongi looked to the sky as he thought of his answer, "To be honest, I don't know that it was one thing, but more of a mix of things that have happened. Once BTS took off, I carried a lot of pressure and weight, not wanting to let the team or Big Hit down. There were days I struggled to believe in myself, but other days I felt like no one could stop me. Little things over time have accumulated into a general "reason" for my depression and anxiety. But, I feel like I can maintain balance more often these days. Recognizing triggers helps me put things into perspective and deal with it better."

"After an instance several years ago when you went off on your own because you needed to get away, you had said that even though you didn't have a religion, you had prayed that day as you were trying to overcome what you were going through. After you prayed, did you feel like something had changed or shifted that helped you get through it?"

"Yes I would say things slowly got better after that. There will always be ups and downs, though."

Alex nodded her head, "That is true. Since then have you found a higher being that you talk with when you are having trouble, or do you still consider yourself without religion?"

Alex waited as Yoongi sat there searching her eyes. She could see the wheels turning in his head. He was thinking back to the night on the bridge when he had asked her if she believed in fate. She had told him she believed in a higher power and divine intervention. Yoongi wasn't so sure about religion, but he wasn't opposed to considering a higher power.

"I would say that everyone has a force that they believe in that influences their decisions and paths in life. Whether that is God, intuition, or something else I don't know. But I do think there is something for everyone in that manner." Yoongi sat back and crossed his leg over his knee while he waited for Alex's next question.

She watched him for a brief moment, trying to guess what he was thinking. Would he be upset with her for pushing too soon? Had she stepped over any lines that would upset him? She signaled to Ji-Hoon that she was done, and started putting her things away in her bag. Ji-Hoon set the camera down to give his arm a break. Yoongi got up and walked over to a small bridge next to the waterfall in the park. He stood in the shade of a tree watching the water crashing down over the rocks, with his hands in his pockets.

Alex left Ji-Hoon and tentatively walked over to Yoongi. She stood next to him quietly for a moment, then peaked over at him to see if she could read his face. He looked at her with a side glance when he saw her looking at him. She looked out over the water, "Did I go too far today?"

He looked at her with a confused expression, "What would make you think that?"

Alex looked down at her feet then back up at him, "I know you have spoken on those topics in the past. I didn't want to tread on any forbidden territory, but I want people to know the real Yoongi. Not just the performer, Suga, or the badass, Agust D. When we take a risk and open ourselves up, we have the opportunity for others to share and relate to us, both with the good and the bad."

Yoongi looked at her thoughtfully, "You're right. That's why it never bothered me to talk about those things. Depression and anxiety are real, and they affect real people. It shouldn't be taboo to talk about it. If my story can help someone else, then it's a story worth sharing." He smiled at her as he leaned back against the bridge rail.

She stepped back and joined him as they looked out over the water. "You know," Yoongi hesitated for a moment, "even though we are giving more of ourselves in this documentary than we have before, it won't ever be all of us that we give. Some parts of us we keep to ourselves because it is ours to keep, or because it's something we only share with those we care about the most."

Alex knew what he meant, "I don't expect you guys to give everything. Even though we know ARMY would love every bit of it," they both laughed at that, "but I know what you mean. Some things are just for you, and the special people in your life. Sharing too much makes us vulnerable, but that's what trust and love is for. When you find that person you can share everything with . . . ." Alex hesitated, "Well, to me that's the greatest gift there is."

Yoongi's expression softened. Alex stood with the waterfall behind her, her hair dancing in the breeze. She looked up at him, wondering what he was thinking about so intently as he looked at her. Yoongi stretched his hand out and tucked her hair behind her ear. His hand lingered on her neck for a moment. He wanted to kiss her, badly. He just didn't have enough confidence in himself yet to try. He dropped his hand and took a step back.

Alex let out the breath she didn't know she had been holding. She cleared her throat and checked her watch. They needed to start heading back if she and Yoongi were going to make it to his surprise on time.

"We better get going, I still have one more place to take you tonight, and I hope you like it." She headed back to the bench where Ji-Hoon was waiting. Yoongi followed and they started back for the car.

Ji-Hoon stayed back a couple of steps as they walked. They hadn't noticed him filming them as they talked on the bridge. It wasn't something he would put in the final cuts of the filming, but it was something he wanted to save for Alex. He wasn't positive, but he was pretty sure he just captured a defining moment in their relationship.
