"Oh dear..." I facepalmed myself in humiliation.
"Oh, wait until you see Ben's performance...." Priya chuckled and looked up from her phone. "Let's just say, it'll bring us all back to elementary or high school."
That made me a little nervous but continued watching the lip sync battle rage on. Jake was up first and my cheeks started to tint up a bit.
"So, Jake...What made you pick this song that you are about to sing?" The MC had asked Jake and he just full-on smirked.
"Let's just say, the fans call me Big Country." And just like that, he started to take his suit jacket and shirt off, to reveal a Memphis Grizzlies jersey which had unveiled his new 'family' tattoo he got a few weeks ago.
The music started to blare out and I immediately looked up at him. And all of a sudden, "Chattahoochee" by Alan Jackson started to blare out and I saw Jake starting to start lip synching along to it, adding a few country-style dance moves. After he was done, he lifted the cowboy hat off his head and 'tossed' it into the air while he bowed for the crowd.
---
Jake had finished his entry and Jared had completed his rendition of "I Want it That Way" by the Backstreet Boys. It was currently Ben's turn and I smiled as I saw Jake smile at me.
"So, Ben...Why did you pick the song you are performing in front of us, today?" The MC had also asked Ben and he kept a big smile on his face.
"Well, Lauren told me that this was Luca Sbisa's favorite song..." Ben smiled and all of us in the crowd laughed out loud.

Music started to blare out and immediately, my hands flew up to my mouth. My laughter was stifled due to my hands covering my mouth. "Barbie Girl" by Aqua was starting play and we were watching Ben having fun with it, and yes, he did unbutton his shirt...
I watched him going up to Jannik and the whole spiel. Eventually, Sven went and did a Marvin Gaye song, doing all typical 'mic-drop' and even left the stage.
---
It was the end of the gala and we went up to Jake and Ben.
"Nice job tonight, boys! Jake, I very much enjoyed the Chattahoochee performance..." Priya giggled, giving a hug to Jake before running to Ben's side.
"Thanks, Priya...I think Ben's performance definitely is the one that may have beaten Justin Bieber's rendition of Big Girls Don't Cry." Jake chuckled and patted Ben on the back.
"You both did fantast-Oh I can't even!" I started out serious before I broke down in laughter. "You guys were hilarious out there!"
"Geez, I love the fact that my fiancé's telling me that I embarrassed myself in the public..." Jake sarcastically rolled his eyes and kissed my cheek.
"Anyways, Ben and I will be leaving you two alone..." Priya smiled and grabbed Ben's hand, leading out of the room.
"I'm just kidding babe, I loved that performance." I chuckled to myself and wrapped my arms around his neck, looking into his crystal blue eyes.
"Why, thank you very much! Should I have another job as a country singer?" Jake smiled, looking down at my E/C eyes.
"Just stick to your day job, honey."
"I love you."
"Love you too."
He kissed me right on the spot and I heard an 'ew' coming from someone, who turned out to be Jared....
"There's a baby in the room!" Jared jokingly shouted and covered Ben's eyes, who then uncovered his hands and glared at Jared.
"Nice going, Jared the Backstreet Boy!"

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.

Neophyte: Common Route
A story about self-discovery, interpersonal relationships, magic and magical creatures-- and a silent war. Marsha is about seven years past adulthood and still feels like a scared child in her parents' home. This is exacerbated when she discovers her father has apparently keyed up his destructive, sadistic habits-- leading to a mad dash out of the house with precious cargo in tow and only one idea where to go. This begins her journey, leading to a discovery that will change her life forever. And she never wants to go back. (Warnings: Lots of descriptions of abusive, sadistic and otherwise traumatizing and triggering behavior that a parent perpetuated toward a child or multiple children. Descriptions of violence, a main character with emotional issues that will be dealt with, and a whole lot of the 'aftermath' of battles in a war. Even a few descriptions of some of those battles. Things of that nature. If you can't handle one of those, please do not read.) {I had this idea to write a 'common route' and then 'romance routes' like they do in otomes? Book 1 is the common route, and then at book 2, you choose your love interest. Each of which is encased in their own book.}
