《Book reviews *Requests Closed*》'The Peaceland trilogy' by Fa1245

'The Peaceland trilogy' is a collection of three stories by Fa1245, about a place called the Peaceland. Peaceland, or so I've gathered, is a magical land where animals can talk (no, it's not Disneyland). The name is kind of misleading, though; I'm sure the land is supposed to be peaceful normally, but in all three books in this collection, Peaceland's peace is threatened.

I thought the idea was original enough, though the plot got rather predictable in the third book. It was all essentially 'human ends up in Peaceland because they need to find their inner peace and ends up saving the place from evil in very similar battles'. I also found many plot holes and things that just… didn't make sense, even for a story about talking animals.

I found the characters to be rather flat. They started out ridiculously flawed and became ridiculously good in no time, for example. Not prime character development at all. I also found them rather inconsistent; I found it especially weird how the spirit of Abdul's deceased mother, who's supposed to be a very kind woman, calls Abdul's father a faggot at some point for no reason whatsoever. That's not… it doesn't make sense… lastly, I cared very little about the characters, partially because I'm being told the entire story instead of also occasionally being showed things. Another reason was that the characters' actions were often rather over the top and not realistic, while the dialogue also felt forced.

The spelling was fine, but grammar and punctuation were very problematic. I've seen incredibly wonky sentences and subpar English, which made the story very difficult for me to read. I know what happened, I can see the bigger picture, but I often found myself wondering, 'what the hell is happening here'. I'd recommend some much needed editing.

Finally, I'd like to discuss the story's message. It's obvious that the Peaceland trilogy is supposed to teach us about life, peace, how to be good people, etc. A very good message that I support, but... it would be better to disguise those morals more subtlely into the story. Now it's just a bunch of morals being shoved in your face, which can turn out to be rather annoying. Hiding the morals somewhere in your story will make your readers far more appreciative of it; we like to think. Don't tell us 'be a good person', write a story that makes us reach that conclusion ourselves.

It was interesting, but very rough around the edges. Rating: 6
