'Survived By Secrets" is about Ryan, who ends up being able to see and hear ghosts after a near-death experience. When he wakes up after a car incident, he hears a voice in his head. Not long after, he's dared to go into a supposedly haunted house, where he ends up finding a little girl's ghost and a peculiar box. Determined to get rid of the voice in his head, Ryan sets out to find the little girl's killer, aided by his friends Lya and Mahlik.
The plot is intriguing, an original, well thought-out murder mystery with a touch of paranormal. Very interesting and manages to hook the reader well. Though, I did find a plot hole: Ryan says he never sees an unfamiliar face in town because it's so small, and yet he's apparently never seen Lawrence before, in spite of both of them living in the same town. That's a little bit of an error there.
The characters are intriguing, have their own thoughts and pasts and interests. They're likeable and I'm interested in seeing how the mystery plays out further.
The GPS is mostly fine, though in terms of punctuation, it definitely could use some editing.
Another thing I like about the story is how we switch between the present and 1967 without things getting too confusing; it spices the tale up a little and provides more insight in the case. Very nice.
A small word of warning to potential readers: there are mentions of suicide and other situations that could be triggering, so keep that in mind. I'd recommend this story if you want to read about an intriguing paranormal mystery, but I wouldn't want to trigger anyone. There's a nice trigger warning in the book, though, so just look at that if needed.
Rating: 9! Very interesting story, only in need of some editing.
