The Heart of Life is a high fantasy novel by CalebNed. It's about Marden, the Chosen One. In a world where a gem known as The Heart of Life or Keola resides, four kingdoms fight to get it. Marden is chosen to stop the gem from falling into goblin king Gordor's hands. She embarks on an adventure, together with the Great Wizard, Ealdred.
I have some things to say about this.
This story bears some resemblance to LOTR and The Hobbit; I think it's safe to assume those books were a source of inspiration. However, the plot isn't similar and fairly original. The world also seems well thought out, so kudos to that!
However, I'm not really feeling the characters. They feel a little… flat. Underdeveloped. There are two things tips I can give to change that:
1. Show, don't tell. A lot in this story is told instead of shown, which makes it a bit tedious and annoying. Instead of having Marden say 'we then trained for 4 hours', show us that training. Show us how the characters feel during the training, how their training works, if they struggle or not.
2. The story is very fast paced. While it would be bad if the story were too long and boring, this pace is a bit too fast. So, instead of skipping over things like, for example, the training, write that. Show and tell us about that; it helps us readers form a better idea about your characters and world and it makes the story more interesting to read.
As for the GPS, that's okay. I can't say it needs a lot of editing when it comes to the GPS.
However, do consider my tips and keep writing! The plot itself is interesting enough!
