《Endangered》22.) Skeptical

Dorian and I were on the bed relaxing. I delved into the heat he was generating as his arms were wrapped around my body. I rolled over onto my side admiring his shirtless body.
"Is it me or does it seem like my stomach keeps getting bigger?" I asked as I looked down at my stomach keeping me and Dorian apart by how much I've grown with my precious baby inside.
He turned his head towards me, looking down then back up. "It looks the same."
"Well, you're not the one with a big belly."
"That's not true when I eat deer, bears, or even people I get a full stomach before my digestive system works."
"You eat people?!"
"Out of all that, that's what you picked up?" He chuckled not even acknowledging the disbelief on my face.
"You eat people?!"
"Very rarely, but yeah."
"Did you ever plan on eating me if I didn't get pregnant?" I asked wearily.
"That's ridiculous. No, I only eat people when I'm either really angry or really hungry. They're not the first choice I'd choose. Besides I usually throw it all back up when I'm in my 'human skin.' This body usually can't take to it."
"Well, that's...disturbing," I said laying back down. My baby daddy just admitted to eating humans. The thought made me uncomfortable. "Can we talk about something else, please."
Everything was silent for a moment. I was thinking of how many people he's eaten while Dorian was trying to think of something to say. "Oh, I forgot to tell you that Tilda wants to meet you." Instantly my mood dropped at the mention of her name.
I rather talk about him eating people than her. "Really?"
"Yeah, she wants to meet you today."
"Not today. I don't feel so well."
"We can't cancel. If she wants to see you then she will."
"So you abide by what she wants and not me?"
"She's-"
"The only female lycan. I got that the first time but when you keep saying it, it just gets old."

The doorbell rung making Dorian rush to it. His attitude towards this girl was making me question how this will work if he keeps thinking about Tilda.
"It's just the guys,"
That made me sigh in relief.
"What's up mama? Not happy?" Axel asked when I walked into the living room.
"It's just...Tilda..." I said hoping they won't become defensive over her.
"You don't like her? Have you two already met?"
"No, it's just I'm not completely thrilled about her being here."
"We were just going to introduce you guys then show her the layout of the land. She won't even have to come in the house."
That relieved me to know that this girl won't be in my peaceful sanctuary. At least I got to keep something to myself.
Just as I was thinking hopeful thoughts a bike engine revved breaking my concentration.
"Must be her," Marcus said raising his eyebrows.
I took a deep breath, "here we go." We all went outside to see Tilda getting off of her motorcycle then take off her helmet while flipping her hair. She gracefully unzipped her jacket showing off her bra and her skinny body.
I looked at Dorian shocked that she would do this in front of all the guys so comfortably. Dorian leaned down to whisper in my ear. "Our morals and ethics are different from yours."
I tried to remember that instead of being irritated at this woman who I haven't even met yet. Once Tilda looked at us, I could see why the guys wanted her. She was beautiful with long legs, perky breasts, and a decent ass, but practically no meat on her bones.
Was Dorian attracted to her cause she wasn't curvy like me? Does she turn him on? I don't think I ever questioned my appearance so much until now. The last time I felt this insecure was back in Junior high.
Now all of a sudden I was questioning my looks. I could only hope that Dorian doesn't fall for her, that would devastate me.
She caught my eye and smiled. "Hello, I'm Tilda. I've heard much about you." She said while holding a look with Dorian.

Why was she looking at him especially in front of me? Tilda better know her boundaries.
She looked down at my stomach, her smile widening. "What a fighter." She looked at me straightening her posture. "You're very lucky you know. You have the one thing I absolutely would adore and for that, you have my respect."
This time I heard a real sense of emotion instead of a fake one. She actually did want a baby like me. Though I was still skeptical of her and her intentions with Dorian. Even out of all the guys, Dorian was the best looking one of all, and I knew she took notice.
Even though I'm the first to have his child, there was still that plaguing thought that she didn't have a large belly or the pain I felt. She was a clean slate, free of all those problems and publicly displayed the goods to all the guys getting off of her bike.
"Well it's been a pleasure, but I'm going to familiarize myself with the area. Would any of you boys like to join me?" Axel and Magnus nodded while Roman and Marcus declined. She looked at Dorian, raising an eyebrow. "How about you Dorian, wanna join me?"
"No thanks," he politely declined.
She irked me, plain and simple. Though Dorian would never see my side of it despite all the things I listed in my head of her being a threat. He saw her as a strong woman and me a weak one.
He didn't have to say it, I knew it. No matter what he said or didn't voice, I knew in the back of my mind that he still had doubts about me.
"So when do we find out when little missy is pregnant?" I asked not caring if Marcus or Roman were in our presence.
"It's usually determined quickly, maybe two days at most."
"....and if she isn't?"
"Then she'll choose another."
"Do you have any say if she ever chooses you."
He looked at me tilting his head slightly. "Stop worrying about it." He kissed my forehead and walked into the house.
"It's kind of hard not to," I whispered under my breath. I couldn't help but think that Dorian hasn't been as affectionate to me since Tilda came in the picture. The kisses on the forehead weren't as good as his lips on mine.
She was definitely changing things, but not for the better. She was starting to interfere with my life and Dorian's. It just seemed harder since they knew the difficulties being brought up with what they were.
Their species had a history, they understood what needs to be done, and they were both adamant about having babies. All of these things worried me yet Dorian kept reminding me nothing would come of it, but what if it did?
I felt a hand on my back. "Don't worry, Dorian wouldn't do that." Marcus gave me a smile before heading towards the back of the house with Roman in tow.
I looked at Tilda's retreating form, laughing along with the guys. You know how a woman's intuition and instincts work, they were telling me something was off about this woman, Tilda. Probably something I wouldn't like.
Dorian came out of the house poking his head out. "You coming in?"
My gaze was focused on Tilda as she further slipped from my view. "Yeah."
Late at night when Flora was asleep, Dorian slipped out of bed putting on his pants, shirt and, shoes. He kissed Flora's forehead then quietly made his way outside. His breath could be seen from how cold it was.
Dorian looked around wondering if the guys were watching him. Most likely they were. He made it to his destination by a small opening in the woods.
"I'm glad you came," Tilda said standing in front of him with a smile.
"What did you want to tell me?"
She put her hand on his chest looking up at him. "How far are you willing to go to ensure our future?"

The Essence of Cultivation
After experiencing five years of an adventurer's life, Arcanist Sylar Wershin now spends his days catching up on developments in Essence Studies and teasing apart the functions of arcane trinkets and artifacts discovered by him and his companions throughout their time travelling the realms of Resham. An unexpected accident during the study of his latest subject of intrigue, however, displaces him across the Planes beyond what any known spell is capable of achieving. If nothing else, plagiarising - ahem, learning new spell structures by observing the local mages should prove entertaining. Sure, there were new dangers in this foreign world, but they wouldn't be anything a fancy bit of spellwork couldn't solve. Though, he would appreciate it greatly if someone could explain to him just what this 'cultivation' business was, why the local Mages were all muscle-brained freaks obsessed with immortality, and why they all seemed to lack any appreciation for the finer details of Essence manipulation. That would be nice.

A Fate Shaped by Magick
This fiction was (and is) published on fanfiction dot net under the same title; though as I slowly transfer it to here, I am editing and smoothing it. This story takes place in the Elder Scrolls (TES) Universe mostly ending up in Morrowind. This is a slice of life meant to answer the questions of how (in the TES universe) do mages study and learn, and exploring some of the in-game differences between TES 2 and 3. This book has minimal spoilers for the Morrowind main quest and does not fully explore it. If you think that giant insects would make cool pets - if you like the idea of exploring magic NOT intended simply as killing something better, faster or more gore-ridden, then come on in and enjoy.
