《Endangered》21.) Chosen one

Today was an important day that the guys were excited about. They wouldn't keep still with all the anticipation filling the cave.

I had told Flora about what was going to happen today, but after seeing how she reacted yesterday, I couldn't bring myself to think of such possibilities of the outcomes once today is through. She was already apprehensive about Tilda and she hadn't even met her.

Early on, I knew females were always wary of one another. Even when it came to lycans and humans. They were all protective of what they hold dear to them and often turn to violence if they feel threatened.

Marcus held everybody's attention as he stood in the middle so everybody could face him. "Alright guys, we gotta figure out what we are going to do. Tilda, sweetheart if you don't mind."

She made her way to where Marcus was standing to look at all of us. This is where she'll choose the man she's sexually attracted to. The more she's aroused, the better the breeding process will be to produce a pup.

She walked down the line smelling each of us. She stopped at me gazing at me longingly, her eyes were shining a light brown color. I shook my head clenching my jaw, looking away from her.

I closed my eyes knowing that she felt the rejection. She cleared her throat and went to Roman who was next to me. "I choose you."

The guys whistled and hooted exclaiming their joy for their fellow companions. Roman barely cracked a smile, while Tilda tried to seem excited. The celebration took place on the pack grounds that were happy to have us.

It was obvious from how the female wolves acted that they weren't very fond of Tilda. They tried to hide their dislike but it still showed through with their fake smiles and conversations.

Tilda didn't hold back from saying her thoughts to the other women and simply left their presence. She was their dominant female who just asserted her higher class of them. I noticed that she could be mean and vicious if she wanted to be.

It was obvious that she felt that she was better than the humans and werewolves, treating them all the same. She had seemed irritated and mad since she chose Roman. I knew she wanted to pick me but Flora was my number one concern.

Afterward, a couple of packs came together to celebrate the first choosing. The night consisted of looks from Tilda that I ignored. I had called Flora checking in every thirty minutes to see if she was in any sort of pain.

She assured me that she was fine and that she just wanted to relax. Today was her 'me time' where she'd treat herself to a relaxing bath, pizza, and movie day. She also said that she was in good company again with her three caretakers that she was growing closer to as they helped her through her pregnancy.

When the celebration started to die down, someone had my arm in a strong grip, pushing me into an empty bedroom. I didn't need to look to know who it was.

"I wanted you," Tilda said sounding more hurt than angry.

"I know," I sighed. Tilda was more lycan than in touch with her human skin. She thought mortals were weak and were unnecessary for reproduction with lycans.

"Then why'd you reject my offer. Am I not what you expected from a female lycan."

"No, you're everything a lycan female should be, it's just..."

"Your mortal?" She asked softly.

She put her hand on my shoulder as I looked at her. "I wanted to choose you because you got her pregnant, unlike the others. You're handsome and able to provide a family that I want."

"I'm sorry but Flora needs me, probably more than you do."

"If you continue to get close to her then that's what she'll always want. She'll need you because she can't raise a lycan pup. She'll always need your guidance, while I can handle it. I think you've been around her so long that you forgot what type of situation we are in. We need to ensure our future. I want a family like all the others. If you're not willing to do that then what kind of future do you want for our kind, one child is not enough."

"Roman's a nice guy. Take it easy on him." I tried to go past her but she pulled my arm back.

"Remember where you came from. Mortals won't last the way we live and what things we have to kill in order for us and the wolves to survive."

I nodded one last time then opened the door.

"Oh and one last thing Dorian, I'd like to meet her. After all, she will be having the first baby of our kind."

"Anything else, Tilda?" I asked becoming irritated that she already told me what I already knew and now she wants to meet Flora.

"That's all for now."

I slammed the door shut and let my body shift into the anger I was feeling. Anger is what drove the beast to shift faster.

I looked up smiling at Dorian who just walked into the house. His expression looked gloomy.

"What's wrong? Did she choose you?" My throat felt dry, I don't know what I'd do if she chose Dorian.

"No, she didn't." He smiled but I could see it was forced.

"Are you upset that she didn't?"

"No, no of course not. It just seems like there's a lot going on." He wrapped his arms around me, pulling my body into him.

I rubbed his back trying to soothe him. I looked at the silver chain around his neck then pulled away taking his necklace out of his shirt. I looked at the bronze symbol it had that was very detailed.

"Out of all the times I slept with you, I always saw this swaying in my face but never questioned what it meant. Mind telling me?" I asked both curious and trying to get his mind off whatever was bothering him.

His face now had an actual smile. He took a hold of my hand letting my fingers trace where he wanted my attention. "The triple moon consists of two crescent moons with the full moon in the middle, sometimes with the star in the middle of the moon to show the stars of the heavens. My necklace also has the tree of life symbol that means positive energy or eternal life. I got this mainly for the triple moon. It stands for Maiden, Mother, and Crone. The Maiden for new beginnings. The mother for fertility. Then the Crone for a lifetime of experiences."

"What does it mean to you?"

"Everything. Not just for it's meaning but what I stand for. It has many representations and meanings but it's also what I love about it. The funny thing is that this used to be silver until I met you."

"How's that possible?"

"I have no idea. My mother gave me this a long long time ago. She said that it was blessed by every being she ever met. She said one day it will help me when I would try to have a family."

"What happened to your parents?"

"That's something I don't really like talking about."

I leaned back into Dorian's chest. "It's okay, sorry for asking."

He kissed the top of my head. "One day I might tell you."

"It's alright. The day you do tell me, I'll know it'll mean a lot coming from you." I wrapped my arms around his waist loving how he always made me feel comfortable and safe. I was just happy that one day he'll tell me about his family, an obvious sore subject for him.
