《The Secrets of The Reverence Pack》Chapter 1: BlackCreek Forest

"How close are they?" Jett asked. His black fur blended in with the shadows of the trees. Even in the daytime, this forest was dark and easy to get lost in. Fog loved to cover the town that the forest surrounded as well.
"Just heard word from the Noble Pack," one of his warrior's told him. "They just left their territory, entering ours. They're requesting permission to enter our territory to continue their chase."
"Tell any of our allying packs that they are free to come to help," Jett told his warrior. As long as they were able to catch their enemies, he didn't care about his neighbor's giving him a visit.
Hunters had decided to show their ugly faces this time. Werewolf hunters were brutal. It didn't matter that they were humans. They were skilled enough to take on plenty of supernatural creatures easily. For most of them, it was their passion.
And you would think they would use their skills on the one's who were actually harming people.
"It's weird that they'd come to our territory after Nir's," Alex mentioned. His Beta wasn't close to him, but anyone in the pack could mind link with him as long as they were within the territory. "I would have thought they traveled through the East or West packs."
"They could have gone into the East without us knowing," Blake's voice popped up. He was Jett's Delta of the pack. But he wasn't anywhere near them either. Jett had ordered him to guard the packhouse. They needed to keep the innocent protected.
"There's no way the Reverence Pack would have just let them pass," Jett said. As much as they were all on high alert for these enemies, he wasn't worried about them as much as other times. They probably thought that there was only going to be one pack that they had to destroy, maybe two.
Nope.
Four packs lived in these woods. And Jett was sure that none of them were going to be happy with their new guests.
But Alex was right. It was strange that they would go from the Noble Pack to theirs. The Noble Pack was the north one, known for their calm, watchful demeanors. From what Jett had heard, they had picked up on these hunters being here before they could sneak up on them.
But Jett's pack was the south one. And, since the city was in the center, it was strange that they wouldn't try going around into the other territories as well.
"Just notified the Dynamic Pack," Manny, his gamma, came back from over their territory lines. Jett could feel him entering just as he linked with all of them. "They're preparing their defenses if the hunter's venture west."
"They haven't been in their territory at all?" Jett asked. Something wasn't adding up here.
"I was the first one to warn them about it. It seemed like Alpha Nir's being stretched a little too thin."
"That must mean they were by the Reverence Pack," Alex said. "It's the only way they would be able to get onto our side without anyone else seeing them."
"Why wouldn't they notify us, though?" Blake asked.
"Because they hate talking to everyone."
"Not when it comes to something as important as this," Manny said. As the gamma, he was a great diplomat for them. While Jett mainly talked to the Alpha's of the neighboring packs, Manny made friends with many of their neighbors.
The Reverence Pack wasn't a group that he could talk to easily. It would be difficult trying to get a message out to them at the moment.

The click of a hunting rifle snapped him out of his planning. He could smell the silver bullets before they whizzed past him. As much as the BlackCreek forest was their home, one could never memorize the landscape. The fog that surrounded the land was thick, and seemed eternal. And the trees seemed to be forever changing as the years went by. The main method that the wolves were able to sneak by were through their sense of smell and their hearing. For the fog liked to play tricks on the mind.
"Shit," he heard the man mutter to himself. "It's another Alpha."
Oh, these guys had no idea what they had gotten themselves into.
A growl escaped him as soon as he laid eyes on the man. He made his movements hasty and jumped on him before he could even think about shooting that gun again. The first thing he sank his teeth into was the man's arm. He screamed underneath him as Jett used his weight to pin him to the ground.
He didn't want to kill him. At least, not yet. The plan was to catch all the hunters alive if they could. They had ventured into two pack territories, causing nothing but havoc. And Jett was sure that Alpha Nir would want justice for his fallen warriors.
"Careful Jett," Alex warned. He looked up from the terrified hunter to see the short-haired wolf that was his beta. It seemed like he had finally met up with him. "More are coming."
"How many?" he growled again. He had to say, these hunters sure did come in numbers. With all the reports coming in, it seemed like a whole town had lost their minds.
"A group of ten," Alex said. He crouched low to hide in the shadows, just in case something snuck up on them. "They just got two more warriors from Nir's pack."
Shit. That pack had gotten hit hard by these bastards. He knew just how strong those warriors were too. He fought alongside many of them.
Maybe he had gotten a little too cocky. It seemed like these guys weren't average, everyday dumbasses who thought that it would look cool to have a werewolf pelt on their floor.
"Get the fuck off me, you beast!" the hunter screamed. He was bleeding pretty badly from his arm. His face showed nothing but hatred as he stared at him.
Screw keeping them alive. This was too dangerous to be trying to be civil. Jett sank his teeth into the man's neck. The only sound that was made was a gurgling as the blood poured out. He clamped down on the bone and broke it. At least this way the man wouldn't have a slow death.
"We need to keep moving," Jett got off from the man and looked at his beta. Those blue eyes glowed in the darkness. "If our warriors haven't seen them yet, then they must be trying to sneak up on us."
"Do you need Manny and I to come?" Blake asked.
"No," Jett told him. "I need you two to keep guard of the packhouse. Bring everyone inside until I say so."
The last thing that he wanted was for them to get their hands on one of the omegas. Those hunters were evil. They didn't see a being that was pure of heart, with no blood on their hands. All they saw was the wolf that they could change into. And that was bad no matter how good their soul was. It worried Jett. Because he knew that they wouldn't stand a chance against their torture methods.

Alex followed him through the thick trees in silence. They didn't have time to sit around and talk. They needed to find their enemies as soon as possible. Eventually, Jett split off from him to scan another area. They were both the best fighters in the pack. He wasn't worried about Alex getting hurt too much. If anything, the man would just use it as an excuse to get some attention from the male nurses at home.
The fog of the forest made it difficult for even him to see through. For humans, they were left as blind as a bat when they hiked in there. Jett could at least make out trees and shadows. But he mainly focused on his smell and his hearing. The wind liked to whisper the secrets of the strangers that went in it. He could hear the hunters nearby. Hopefully they would be too blinded by the fog in the area, and he would be able to sneak up on them rather than the other way around.
Smelling them out made it easy to find them.
But not so easy to pinpoint their exact location.
Five clicks from rifles came from all around him. Jett looked to see the leader coming out of his hiding spot behind a bush. The grin on his face would make even the devil want to vomit.
"Gotcha!"
Fuck. They had trapped him. Jett looked all around him to see that there was no way out. Every direction had him looking down the barrel of the gun.
The only way was through. If he tried to stall until reinforcements came, he'd wind up as dog chow. His warriors were on their way, but it would still take too long. Even Alex had traveled far away from him at that point.
Jett backed up a little bit, growling. The game plan was already playing in his head. Hopefully, he'd wind up with only a couple of bullets in him. He could survive that, as painful as it sounded. He kept his eyes trained on the leader. All it would take was just one look away from him and Jett would use that as a point of attack.
"An Alpha's head," the leader put his gun up to his face to aim. His smile was vicious. "Is going to look perfect on my wall."
"Uh," one of the other hunters started talking. "H-hey Bob?"
"Not now!" the man gritted his teeth. Jett was hoping that he would glance over at his friend, but those eyes were trained on him.
The way that his voice sounded made Jett curious. He seemed like he had seen something. But when Jett tried to listen to the wind, she said nothing.
Maybe the fog was getting to the man. Jett would have felt pity for him if it weren't for the fact that he was sure that they had killed Nir's warriors just an hour or two ago.
"But, Bob-!" the man said again, sounded more worried than before.
"Dammit, Rick!" the hunter yelled. "How many times do I have to tell you to not interru-!"
Jett didn't let the man finish. He used the distraction to jump on him, making sure to sink his teeth into whatever flesh he could. He was expecting pain from bullets. His pouncing on their leader made them all start shooting in a flurry. But he focused on keeping his teeth tight around the man's neck. He wasn't going to rest until he heard the satisfying snap.
It wasn't until the hunter lay limp in his mouth that he realized he hadn't gotten any bullets in him. There had been gunshots. But now all he could hear were screams.
Alex was too far away to make it there that fast. They were on the outer rims of his pack territory. And most of the warriors were ordered to protect the weak in case the hunters could somehow get to them.
He didn't have time to contemplate. Jett quickly helped to kill off the rest of the hunting party. The wolves fighting with him weren't in his pack. The Valor Pack consisted of mainly black wolves. This group was brown, and much smaller than his warriors. The markings on their backs were barely noticeable in the fog. But he could make out the slightly darker patterns that spread over them like a coat.
That description only fit one pack: The Reverence Pack.
The leader of the warrior party was small. But those dark eyes held a powerful authority to them. The kind that drew him in.
"Thanks for the help." He told the wolf. All the hunters were on the ground dead. This group had been able to do the one thing that Jett had been planning and failing at. Their surprise attack was perfect, and helped make sure no one got hurt by those bullets.
Only Alphas could mind link with werewolves that weren't in their pack. It helped in situations like these.
"There's no need for thanking," a smooth voice came through his thoughts. "We are allies. I'm sure you would do the same for us."
"Of course," he watched the wolf carefully. The Reverence Pack didn't come out to talk much at all. Not even Manny knew that many of the members. They kept to themselves. It made Jett all the more curious as to who this stranger was. "What's your name?"
"Shiro," the brown wolf answered. "We came to help when we saw signs of them in the city."
"They're in the city?!" That explained how they were able to skip the east and west territory and go straight to theirs. But that thought alone had his heart racing. There were so many innocents in the city of BlackCreek, both werewolf and human.
"Not anymore," Shiro answered. "We killed them before they could do any harm. Then we started out hunt in the forest. I'm sorry that we did not tell you of our arrival into your territory. We were trying to work quickly to hunt them."
"Don't worry about that," he shook his head. He was just relieved that no one in the city got hurt. These hunters didn't seem to care what you did or who you were. If you were okay with werewolves, they were probably going to kill you or use you as bait. And that was the last thing he wanted to happen.
"You are the Alpha of the Valor Pack, correct?" Shiro asked. His feet were apart in a stance of action. It showed him that he was prepared to attack an enemy at any time if one snuck up on them.
"Yes," he answered. "You can call me Jett." He liked this warrior. He was respectful, and his senses sharp.
And there was something about him that made Jett more curious than he normally was of this pack.
"Alpha Jett," the wolf bowed his head. "If you would like, we would be honored to help you find the rest of the hunters."
"The more, the merrier," he told them. There was no way he was going to decline their help. Jett quickly set the pace for all of them to follow. The Reverence Pack was well known for their stealth. They traveled with him silently, each warrior completely focused on the task at hand.
Alex was the first wolf they caught up to. He was surprised to see their neighbor warriors. He wouldn't complain, though. It was always good to have help in situations like these. Jett just thought they'd see Nir's warriors first. Even the Dynamic Pack seemed to be wanting to take action. Yet the ones who came first were the ones they least expected.
He couldn't help but be impressed by their fighting skills. The group fought so well together. It was as if they were all the same body, just different limbs. As time went on, and the day turned into night, even Jett's warriors had taken a liking to them. It was always best to fight as a group. With all the warriors from the other packs coming to aid them, the last of the hunters were easy pickings.
They weren't keeping any alive. Jett would have to apologize to Alpha Nir later, but it was too dangerous to try and capture these murderers. They ran the rest of the day, scouring the forest for their enemies. Even though the Reverence warriors were easier to spot due to their lighter coats, they knew how to hide well in the shadows. Their speed also helped in battle when their size couldn't.
"That's the last of them," Alex said. His wolf gave a giant sigh as it looked over all the dead bodies. They had killed roughly twenty of them. As much as it was nice to fight with all of his neighbors by his side, he was glad to be rid of the pests.
"Good," he said. "Escort the Noble warriors home. I'll get Manny to escort the Dynamic warriors." It was a sign of respect and thanks for them to escort all the warriors to their home territory. That way they made sure that they got home safe as well. After a long days work, he was sure that all of them were exhausted.
"And the Reverence warriors?" Alex asked.
"I'll escort them with some of our warrior's assistance," He told his Beta. After a quick nod, Alex left with the warriors from the north. Jett turned to brown wolves that had assisted him for most of the day. "Thank you for your help. We'll escort you back to your territory."
Shiro nodded his understanding and followed him as he led them again. They were the closest pack to them. The Dynamic pack, to the west, had their packhouse closer to the Noble pack territory. That's just how it was designed by their ancestors a long, long time ago.
It didn't take much time to get to the border of their pack. Jett was already missing running with the wolf. He wanted to get to know him more, and he wanted to fight with him by his side more often. But he knew that it might be a long time before something like this happened again.
He had all of his warriors halt at the territory lines as their neighbors bowed their heads and left for home.
One thing that was in eye shot when he looked into the Reverence territory was a shed. All of the warriors in the group that had fought with him went in there instead of running off into the trees of their home. Jett sent his warriors off. They were all exhausted from the long day. They all needed to rest and celebrate the safety of their homes with their families.
But Jett stayed behind. He watched the shed, too curious to look away. He was sure that his pack was worried about him. His sister would be throwing a fit as soon as she saw the warriors that were with him coming home without their Alpha. But they could wait a little longer.
The moon was bright in that small clearing. The clouds allowed him to see, if not for just a minute or two. Knowing how the weather was, it wouldn't be too long before they would cover up the night sky again.
The first one to come out of the shed was a man with dark eyes. His long black hair shimmered in the moonlight, falling way below his shoulders. It was easy to see it against the white robes that he had put on. He was short, and his build was lean, but Jett could see the muscles on those slender arms. The robes were baggy, tied together only by a simple cloth belt at the waist, but it couldn't hide the strength that the man had.
More of the warriors came out, all in similar robes. But Jett couldn't focus on any of them. All his eyes would fall on were the dark ones that scanned the area protectively. He made for a good warrior, even in his human form. Even though Jett was in the shadows, the man found him easily. He thought that he was going to get mad that he had stayed. An escort was only until they had reached their territory, after all. But, instead, he saw a smile on that mysterious face.
"Thank you for guarding us at our weakest, Alpha Jett," the man bowed in respect. His voice was the same smooth one that he had in the mind link. It soothed him for some reason, and tried to pull him closer at the same time. "May the Spirit of the Moon shine her blessings onto you."
They left at that. He probably should have run for home too. But something made him want to stay. Something made him want to go over that invisible border and follow them. Those dark brown eyes that had found him so quickly reminded him of the Reverence Pack as a whole. They were full of mystery and a knowledge that no one else had.
The more he thought about it, the more he wished to solve that mystery.
"I wish the same to you," he thought to himself. "Shiro of the Reverence Pack."
