《The Cursed Prince》Chapter 40 - Take A Five Minute Break

When Emmelyn woke up the next morning, she found that the side of the bed beside her had long been cold.
Hmm .. She looked out the window and found that it was still a bit dark outside. Maybe it was only seven in the morning.
When she felt the bed beside her, Emmelyn was astonished. Mars' side of the bed had gotten cold this early? What time did that scummy prince wake up and leave the chamber? What was he doing so early?
Emmelyn's bewilderment did not last long. She stretched her body and let out a big yawn. The morning air was still freezing, and she tightened her blanket. Emmelyn wanted to sleep again. So, she closed her eyes.
However...
"Jeez! What happened last night?"
Suddenly, Emmelyn opened her eyes and sat on the bed, leaning on the wooden headboard. Her right hand held her forehead and massaged it lightly.
Her memory went back to last night's event when Mars started to act strangely. Yes, that man was not behaving as usual.
Emmelyn remembered that Mars was always nice to her. He would ask her to take a bath together before they got down to business of 'making his babies'.
Once they finished, he would hug Emmelyn to sleep, sharing the warmth of their bodies during the chilly autumn nights.
However, last night, none of those things happened. The man even barely spoke to her.
Even when they had sex, he made absolutely no sound, and he finished the deed so quickly, like a child being punished to clean up his room and so he did it unwillingly and hurriedly.
What was wrong? What made Mars change? thought Emmelyn in confusion.
The girl tapped her slender fingers on her forehead. She tried to remember everything that had happened before Mars suddenly went quiet.

Now she was sure the prince was not sick but annoyed, or angry. It must be one of those.
Ahhh ... the longer she forced her brain to remember, the dizzier she felt. It seemed that nothing out of the ordinary had happened before they went to the bedroom.
They were still chatting after Doctor Vitas left. Mars talked about the ball his mother was throwing to celebrate his birthday and how they should make up an excuse to tell the queen about why the two were not getting married.
Other than those two things, Mars and Emmelyn didn't talk about anything else. So, what happened between dinner and bedtime that made Mars suddenly change his attitude?
After racking her brain for a while, Emmelyn finally gave up. She decided to ask Mars directly what had upset him.
[Bastard. How could he give me the silent treatment?]
[Does he think I can read minds?]
[Seriously!]
Emmelyn finally got out of bed, put on her clothes, and covered herself with a thick coat. She knew it must be freezing outside at this hour of the morning.
She would look for Mars and ask the man directly about what made him angry.
"Roshan, do you know where Prince Mars is now?" asked Emmelyn when she saw the butler greet her in the front of the dining room. The girl could smell the food for breakfast being prepared from the kitchen.
The mouthwatering smell of her favorite dishes instantly made her feel hungry. However, the girl tried to distract her mind from food and focus on finding Mars.
"His Highness is practicing combat with his soldiers," said Roshan with a bow.
"This early?" asked Emmelyn in surprise. According to her guess, it was only seven in the morning. The sun had not even appeared. "Since what time?"

Roshan cleared his throat. "Since 5 this morning."
"Whoaaa..." Emmelyn shook her head.
Jeez. It must be very serious that the scummy prince woke up so early and tortured his soldiers with combat training.
Days in autumn were very short. The sun only rose at 8 am and would set at 6 pm.
For the past week, she remembered Mars always woke up at 7 am and started training with his soldiers. Then, he would return to the castle to have breakfast with Emmelyn at 9 am, before he went back to continue training or went to the royal palace to attend state duties.
"Take me over to where he is," said Emmelyn, pulling up her coat. She walked following Roshan, who preceded her out of the castle's main door to the large courtyard in front of the castle.
There, she saw hundreds of soldiers were practicing sword fighting with their peers.
In front of them, she saw a very familiar manly figure standing with his arms crossed over his chest.
Mars stood upright with his back in Emmelyn's direction. The rays of the sun slowly rising on the eastern horizon illuminated his body like a beautiful silhouette.
For a moment, Emmelyn's steps halted as she admired the figure.
"That is His Highness Prince Mars. Is there anything else, Your Highness need from me?" asked Roshan politely.
Emmelyn shook her head and waved her hand. "You can go."
"Thank you, Your Highness. I'll go to the kitchen and make sure the cooks prepared a good breakfast for both of you."
Roshan then withdrew, went back into the castle. Meanwhile, Emmelyn stepped closer to Mars.
"Your Highness, I would like to speak to you," said Emmelyn as she reached behind the man. Her voice was soft but firm and immediately caught the attention of everyone training on the field.
The soldiers instantly stopped the attacks on their respective opponents when they heard her voice.
Mars turned around and found the beautiful girl standing with her coat pulled up, and her hair fluttering in the wind.
[Crazy! What is she doing here so early?]
[It's so cold out here...]
[Jeez...]
Mars grumbled to himself, but he didn't say anything. He still felt annoyed with Emmelyn.
"I'm busy," was all Mars said. He then shouted at his soldiers, who were clearly very tired and cold. "Who told you to stop???!"
The soldiers, who had looked relieved at the thought that the prince would see his woman and let them rest, were immediately overcome with disappointment.
Earlier at dawn, when they were all sound asleep under their blankets, suddenly a commando called to go to the field and train.
This was very unusual. In the past, this only happened when there was a surprise attack by the enemy who was cheating by attacking silently.
The soldiers all wondered what was wrong with the prince that he tortured them with rigorous training this early in the morning.
When they saw Emmelyn's presence, they immediately concluded that the torture they had received had something to do with that girl.
Uff ...
"I really want to talk to you," Emmelyn said again, ignoring the prince's refusal. "I'll wait until you're not busy."
The girl stubbornly stood where she was with her arms crossed to her chest, trying to warm herself from the wind on a chilly autumn morning.
[What? She will wait till I finish? Crazy! It's so cold out here!]
[My future child will get cold ...]
[Gosh! This woman...]
Mars immediately raised his hand and shouted, "Take a five-minute break. I'll be right back!"

What if a work of fiction wasn't fiction at all? What if we only thought it was fiction because it was written down, and we were separated from it by the page? Isabel Darrow, troubled by her past and feeling disconnected from the world, likes her doctor's suggestion that the world of fiction might become reality. She likes the idea of waking up in the middle of her favourite book with the handsome, brooding Mr Thornton glaring at people in his mill yard, but she doesn't worry about the foul air of dirty, smoky Milton, because it's not real, and it was written over 160 years ago.But then she takes a trip to Oxford, and gets waylaid along the way, finding herself greeted at a smoky train station, by a man called Mr Hale, who claims to be her godfather. When Isabel meets Margaret and first sees Mr Thornton, she's determined to help the course of love run a little more smoothly for the two stubborn lovers. But Gaskell hadn't accounted for a second young lady in the Crampton house, and whilst Isabel tries to adapt to a life where women have no independence or equality, Milton must adapt to her. The question is, will Mr Thornton adapt to her, or Margaret, first?
