《For The Sake Of》CHAPTER 16: A Heart Of Gold

Once again.
He avoided me again...the moment the meeting got finished, he left without even giving me a look. Not like he keeps staring at me but still, he does acknowledges me.
It's been a week since he has been avoiding me. The day I left his room, from that moment onwards he kept avoiding me.
He leaves for office much earlier than me and I have to go to office seperately, he comes back home very late.
And if somehow he comes home early and has to have dinner with me, he just sit there silently with his sole attention on the food.
Was it affecting me? Hell yes!
Can you believe he didn't speak a single word to me the whole week?!
Maybe he remembered what he told me that day when he was drunk but it was not such a big deal...I was not judging him.
I had no other option than to call Nyle and ask for his help.
Sitting in my office, I called him, "Hello?"
"Hey, Thera! How are you?"
"I am fine, Nyle. I hope I didn't disturb you", I said in a low voice.
"Of course, not! What happened?"
I sighed, "Isaac...he is avoiding me."
"Oh, o-kay...do you have any idea why?"
So, I told him everything that happened that day and once I finished, I heard him sigh deeply, "I understand, Thera. If you want him to talk to you then you need to force him cause he will never initiate a conversation now. Just go, irritate him, trouble him, make him speak."
"I'll try but...what he said that day it was not such a big deal, Nyle. And later when I told him that I care for him he just looked scared...as if he was afraid of something."
"I can't say anything, Thera because if Isaac comes to know about this, our already ruined friendship will get more ruined."
"You know the reason, right?"
"I do...I have known him since the moment we were born. He is just afraid..."
"Afraid of what?"
"Bye, Thera."
"But--", I couldn't complete my sentence because he hung up the call.
Why doesn't anyone gives me a straightforward answer?!
I held my head in my hands.
The door opened and in walked Josh, he walked towards my desk and sat down on the chair.
"Now, what happened?"
I removed my head from my hands and made a pout, with tears forming at the corner of my eyes.
I am a very emotional person.
On seeing me like this, in a moment Josh was beside me, hugging me while I kept sitting.
"He is still avoiding me, Josh", a lone tear rolled down my cheeks.
Josh quickly wiped away that tear and I sniffed, wiping my eyes by the back of my palm.
Josh sat on the desk, facing me curiously.
"He isn't talking to me", I complained folding my hands and I noticed a small smile on Josh's face.
"You think it is funny?!", I snapped.
He shook his head, "Nope. The funny thing is that my best friend is falling for someone really badly."
No, I am not falling for him, I chanted in my head.
"Don't be ridiculous! I am not falling for Isaac ."

At this he chuckled, "I never took Isaac's name. I just said someone."
Goddamnit!
"Go away!", I yelled, my face turning red.
He laughed harder getting up from the desk. "Thera is falling in love...", He said dreamily.
"I don't plan on falling in love with him!"
"You don't plan whom you will fall in love with. Just let your heart decide not your mind."
"You better stop those love philosophies!"
"Believe it or not, they are true. And I know more about love than you."
I rolled my eyes, "Says the one who can't find himself a girlfriend."
"You are changing the topic, Thera."
I smirked, "Oh, am I?"
But then I suddenly realised something, smacking him on his arms I whispered shouted, "You dumbass! His office is right next to me, what if he heard our conversation?!"
"Don't worry. I saw him leave the office for something."
"Thank God!", I sighed in relief.
After a few moments of silence, Josh spoke, "Tomorrow is Saturday; should we go out for lunch or something?"
"Sorry, Josh but I have to do something important."
He frowned making a pout for a dramatical effect. He looked so cute; I pulled his cheeks, saying, "Get yourself a girlfriend, bro."
And his frown deepened making me laugh.

Dressed in casual clothes, Mr. Isaac Grayson was all ready to leave the house at mid afternoon but I had some other plans.
"Isaac?", I called out to him, running down the stairs reaching him just as he was about to open the door.
He ignored me but this time, he has to talk to me.
"Isaac, listen", I said grabbing onto his arms.
He looked frustrated already.
Standing infront of him, I blocked the door. "Why are you avoiding me?"
Ignored.
"What did I do?"
He looked away, avoiding eye contact with me.
"Come on, Isaac! Please stop your childish act. You say that I am childish but right now you are acting like a kid."
When he didn't reply, I had to say, "Okay...I am sorry. I don't even know why you are angry with me but I am sorry. Just stop avoiding me or else...or else I will keep irritating you for the rest of your life till the point where you will be begging me to divorce you and no matter what I won't divorce you."
His eyes shone in amusement, maybe my acting is working.
"I am getting late", he finally said and gently pushed me away from the door.
"Where are you going?" And he refused to answer me.
"Aargh!", I whined when I saw him walking towards the garage completely ignoring me.
I thought he started talking to me!
He just begged me to trouble him now, I thought the moment he drove out of the house.
I quickly picked up my car's keys and revved the engine of my Aston Martin before I started following him.
But as he turned around a corner, I lost him.
I stopped my car at the side of the road and called his driver, "Do you have any idea where Isaac is going right now?"
"He must be going to the...hospital."
"Hospital?...Why?...Let it be... just tell me the address of the hospital."
His driver told me the address and I started driving towards it.
It was a hospital for cancer patients.
And as far as I remember, the Grayson Industry had it built.
As soon as I reached the hospital, I saw Isaac's car parked there and as I parked my car too, he stepped out.
What was very unusual was the bunch of balloons he had in his hand and a packet that looked full of toys and chocolates.
I got out of the car and ran up to him, his eyes widened in surprise on seeing me.
"What are you doing here?", He gritted.
"I can ask you the same thing."
"Thera, go back!"
"Look, we are in the public and if someone sees us arguing in the middle of the road just imagine what will happen to your reputation."
He gritted his teeth, grumbling under his breath before he started moving inside while I walked beside him.
"So, whom are these balloons for?", I asked when we entered an elevator.
"Someone."
I elbowed him in his chest, "Don't be a jerk. Tell me!"
He glared at me and then his gaze softened, clearing his throat, he looked ahead, "You will see."
The elevator dinged and we walked out and I followed him towards a ward that I realised was for children who were suffering from cancer.
The walls of the ward was colourfully painted with different cartoons and my heart pained on seeing around 10-12 children there.
Pushing open the glass door, we stepped in and everyone's attention turned towards us and a chorus of, "Isaac is here!", erupted.
And in a moment, Isaac was crouched down on the floor and all the children came running towards him and engulfed him in a group hug.
It's not the first time he came here.
When everyone parted from the hug, it was the first time in my life when I saw him smiling, not just a small smile or a smirk but a whole hearted smile, with his perfect teeth on display. It made him look younger, carefree and cheerful. It was a smile that melted my heart; his smile was so beautiful, it was so heartwarming.
And what was more heartwarming was the scene infront of me. Isaac handing everyone a couple of balloons along with the toys and chocolates that he bought.
Involuntarily, a huge smile made its way to my face.
"Nice to meet you, Mrs. Grayson", a nurse suddenly spoke standing beside me.
"Nice to meet you, too", I smiled.
I then again turned my attention to him and I found him sitting on the floor cross legged, surrounded by the children who were not more than ten years of age.
"He comes here every month", the nurse said.
"And everytime he brings them toys, chocolates or whatever the children demand from him", she added, "And the best thing is that he is paying for everyone's treatment."
"Everyone? You mean the whole hospital?"
"Yes."
"He is such a generous man, he is very kind-hearted. I don't know why the media potray him as a cold-hearted person."
'A heart of gold', Nyle's words echoed yet again and I couldn't help but feel a huge, enormous amount of admiration for my husband who was sitting there with the children, chatting and laughing.
I slowly walked towards him and as I reached him, everyone looked at me curiously.
A girl of about five years old, whispered to Isaac, "Who's she?"
Isaac's smile faded a little on seeing me and he replied to that girl, "She's my wife."
I don't know why but the way he referred to me as his wife felt really good.
That girl got excited, "Your wife?! She is so pretty!"
Isaac mumbled but I could still hear him say, "I know."
And then a tint of pink colour appeared on his cheeks, is he blushing?!
And then she came towards me as I crouched down to her level.
"Hi, my name is Nadia", she introduced herself innocently.
"Hi, Nadia. My name is Thera. You are very cute", I extended my hands for a shake and she slowly shook my hands.
"Thank you."
Just then all the other children gathered around me and they introduced themselves one by one, they were all so friendly.
"Will you come again?", Joseph, one of the kids asked us as we got up to leave.
"Yes, we will", Isaac assured him.
And then we bid goodbye to everyone of them.
Leaving the hospital, I sat at the passenger's seat in Isaac's car and told my driver to pick up my car.
While Isaac was driving, a small smile was still on his face and I sat there, admiring him. Not his physical features but the kind of person he was.
Whoever thinks that he is arrogant, should come see this side of his.
I know even I called him arrogant and many more things but I realised that he is so beautiful from inside; he doesn't shows this side of his, to me he always seemed to be cold and ruthless but...I know that deep down he cares; he cares for everyone even if he doesn't shows it.
"Do you want me to send you to a mental hospital because for the past two minutes you have been staring me with a stupid smile on your face", he suddenly said.
"I was just... admiring you", I said honestly.
He glanced at me then back at the road, "I know I am very handsome, thank you."
I rolled my eyes, "Not your physical features, stupid. One should admire someone for their internal beauty not their external one."
"Don't tell me you are falling for me."
I scoffed, "Never. Out of all men why should I fall for you? There are better men out there."
His jaw clenched, "You can't fall for anyone else while you are married to me."
"Yeah...yeah...I know. So sad I can't fall in love with someone", I said dramatically making him more angry.
When he didn't reply, I said, "Are you jealous, Mr Isaac Grayson? I can smell something burning."
"I am not jealous!" His nose was scrunched and his eyebrows furrowed; he looked cute.
"Oh, I know you are", I mocked him.
He stopped the car and I realised that we are already home.
Before getting out of the car, I turned to him and leaning towards him, I kissed his cheeks much to his surprise, "You look cute when you are jealous."
With that I got out of the car.
Little did he know that he is the only one I want to fall for.
