After what happened, Tricia and I decided to go home.
Tahimik lang kami the whole ride. I don't know what to say also.
"Bub, where are you na? Wala pa rin kayo sa bahay?" she's still worried.
"Malapit na, Jill. Tho I need to daan sa mall saglit, I'll buy milk ni Lian, then diretso na rin sa bahay,"
"I see. Mama is worried also so I decided to call and i-check kayo," she explained. "Don't daan na sa mall, I'll suyo na lang one of our guards na sila na mag dala ng gatas ni Lian, less hassle for you,"
"Jill, no need. Malapit lang naman din yung mall dito,"
I stopped dahil nag red yung light. When I looked at Tricia, she's still looking sa bintana.
I feel like there's something wrong.
"Bubby?" Jillian suddenly called.
"Yes yes, I'm sorry. Had to stop kasi nag red yung light. What are you saying again?"
"I said, dumiretso na kayo sa bahay.

"Jill, you don't need to do th—"
"Let me do this, bubby. Please? Kahit ito lang, just let me. This is for Lian naman,"
I sighed. I guess I have no choice.
Afterall, Jill is Lia—
"Y/N,"
My thoughts were interrupted when Tricia suddenly talked. Agad akong lumingon sa kaniya, I hummed as an answer at agad din ibinalik ang tingin sa daan.
Ramdam kong nakatitig lang s'ya sa akin, not saying anything.
"Do you uh.. have something to say?" I asked.
I nodded. Tricia got into an accident few years ago, car accident.
"I will. You're safe with me, Trish."
I decided to turn on the radio para kahit papano ay may ingay kaming naririnig.
You are the one girl
And you know that it's true
I'm feeling younger
Every time that I'm alone with you
We were sitting in a parked car
Stealing kisses in the front yard
We got questions we should not ask but
It's How Would You Feel by Ed Sheeran. One of my favorites.
How would you feel, if I told you I loved you?
It's just something that I want to do
"I'll be taking my time, spending my life," I started na makisabay sa kanta. "Falling deeper in love with you."
"So tell me that you love me too."
I froze in my spot when I heard Tricia.
Her voice.. it's angelic.
"Don't judge my voice, hindi naman ako singer," she said when she realized na napasabay din s'ya sa kanta.
And she did. She finally laughed a bit.
"Hindi mo man lang ako plinastic kahit konti talaga?"
"Sorry, wala sa nature ko makipagplastican,"
Natawa naman kami at bigla s'yang sumeryoso. "Can I borrow your phone for a minute?
"What's the password?"

May nakita ako sa mall last time, ang cute nung design,"
I think they're talking about Rocco, Tricia's dog. Lagi namin 'yon kasama kapag nasa condo kami.
"I'll go shopping bukas ng damit ni Rocco, my pasalubong pag uwi. You want to come?" Alok n'ya. "If you're not busy,"
"I can cancel my schedules for.. for Rocco," sagot ko at ngumiti.
When I was about to walk papunta sa front door. Hinawakan n'ya ang damit ko.
"Ang ganda ng buwan ngayon," she said while looking up the sky.
I did the same.
"It's so pretty. I can spend the whole night yata looking at this lang," she said with full of admiration in her eyes.
"Indeed. The night sky is one of the many things I find beautiful," Pag sangayon ko sa sinabi n'ya. "Sometimes, ayoko na lang mag umaga, you know?
"Umaalis man 'yan, bumabalik naman,"
Napagod kang mag hintay,"
"Hmm, napapagod ba ang pusong mag hintay? For me, no. It's our body and mind na napapagod.
I listened to her habang nakatingin pa rin sa sky. Trying to understand anong sinasabi n'ya. "Tingnan mo ako, when Papa died, up until now I'm waiting for him to come back. But my heart, it's holding on, Y/N it keeps on holding on. Our heart, it will always hope and crave for something we know we can't have na. Accept and move forward, Y/N."
Natahimik ako. Tricia do have a point. I know I already accepted the fact na wala na, I just want clear answers sa mga tanong sa isip ko. I want to stop blaming myself for everything. For once, I want to be free.
She then looked at me. "Can you see that?" She pointed sa isang star na pinakamaliwanag.
"That's Papa, our brightest star."
I saw a tear dropped from her eyes. She's crying.
"Pero alam mo? Wala naman talaga tayong hinihintay. Kasi they're always in our hearts naman, right?
While Tricia's talking, I'm also looking at the brightest star shining this night for me.
I'm looking at her.
I'm looking at Tricia.
I slowly stretched my arm at ipinatong 'yon sa balikat n'ya. She cried lalo. Hinayaan ko s'yang ilabas lahat and I'm just rubbing her shoulders gently.
We stayed in that position for a while hanggang sa s'ya na mismo ang lumayo. Pinunasan n'ya ang luha niya at nginitian ako.
"I'm okay now, tara na sa loob?" Aya n'ya. "Baka hinihintay ka na ni Lian,"
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes!" Sagot n'ya at ngumiti lalo. "Look I'm smiley!"
Natawa ako kasi ngiting ngiti talaga s'ya. "That's good, mas maganda ka kapag nakangiti.
I opened the door for Tricia at nauna s'yang pumasok.
And there I saw a girl sitting sa couch while carrying Lian.
She smiled at us.

Also available on Audible! After centuries of endless wars, the three greatest nations of the continent have come together in peace. As a symbol of their cooperation, they have worked together to establish the Grand Academy of Spiritual, Martial, and Arcane Arts, a place where the best and brightest of each nation can gather on neutral ground and share knowledge, techniques, and cultures. Can the peace truly last, or is the academy just another proxy for the constant conflicts the three nations face? None of that matters to Lee Jia, a homeless young girl who's biggest concern is surviving the winter. But when she accidentally stumbles into the academy in search of a new place to stay, her destiny is changed forever. Determined to carve out a new place for herself and make the most of her good fortune, Lee Jia dives head first into the world of magic and martial arts. Fates Parallel is my first serious attempt at writing a story, and a personal love letter to Eastern fantasy and xianxia stories. It's heavily inspired by East Asian culture, folklore, and mythology, with what is likely going to be a decidedly Western artistic license. I try to write every day, with a goal of about 45,000 words per month (~1500 per day). Chapter lengths are around 3000 words on average, releasing on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Cover art drawn by the incredibly talented Tsuu (TsurotArtistry).
