《The Fading Sunshine》Chapter 24

***Kageyama's POV
Daichi and I sped up the roads to Hinata's house. "Park a little ways down the driveway so he doesn't see the car coming." I said as he pulled over and we both got out of the car. We started walking up the driveway and heard yelling. I listened and realized in was Hinata and his dad.
"YOU THINK I WANTED THIS?? I WISH I WOULD'VE DIED IN THAT CAR CRASH TOO!! EVERYONE WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT ME!! ALL I DO IS FUCK EVERYTHING UP!!" Hinata screamed.
"THEN WHY DON'T YOU JUST KILL YOURSELF YOU USELESS PIECE OF SHIT?! His dad screamed back. Did his dad really just tell him to kill himself? Knowing Hinata, if he thought it was best for everyone, he would do it.
"YOU THINK I DONT WANT TO?! BECAUSE I DO!! I THINK EVERYDAY THAT THINGS WILL GET BETTER, THAT IF I JUST HOLD ON ONE MORE DAY EVERYTHING WILL CHANGE!! BUT MY LIFE IS SHIT!! I WISH I WOULD'VE KILLED MYSELF A LONG TIME AGO!! WHY DONT YOU JUST GO AHEAD AND FINISH THE JOB YOU COWARD?! Hinata screamed.
My heart dropped. I left Daichi behind and started sprinting up the hill that is their drive way. I was still a pretty longs ways away from his house but I still ran with every ounce of energy I had left.
When I reached the top of the hill I was heading and saw Hinata's dad standing over him. Hinata's face was covered in bruises and blood. I watched in horror as his dad slowly bent over and grabbed him by the front of his shirt and started to drag him across the yard.
"STOP!" I yelled. Hinata's dad turned and looked at me. "DONT FUCKING TOUCH HIM YOU BASTARD!!" I yelled.
"Why you little..." He started but then paused. I heard footsteps behind me and looked back to see Daichi running up behind me. He had the same horrified look on his face that I did.

"I've already called the cops, they're less than two minutes away. You have no where to run." Daichi said as Hinata's dad slowly continued towards the house, with Hinata still hanging limp in his grip.
"Don't you come near me or i'll kill him... YOU HEAR ME?? ILL KILL HIM!!" His dad yelled. He had a crazed look in his eye and I could tell he wasn't bluffing.
"We'll make sure to mention that to the cops when they arrive.." Daichi said.
Soon, I heard sirens behind Daichi and I, which means the cops are here. His dad put Hinata in a choke hold and said, "If i'm going down, he's going with me.." He muttered.
"PUT YOUR HANDS UP WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM!!" The cops yelled, but his dad didn't budge. "I SAID PUT YOUR HANDS UP, BEFORE WE ARE OBLIGATED TO USE FORCE!!" The police said again. But his dad still didn't budge.
Another officer came behind us. "Turn around. This could get ugly, I don't want you kids to see this." We turned around and after about 30 more seconds we heard a gunshot. I instinctively turned around and saw both Hinata and his dad on the ground motionless.
I tried to run over to his side but felt someone hold me back by my arm. I turned and saw Daichi's hand on arm. "Let the paramedics do their job Kageyama. We'll follow the ambulance to the hospital." Daichi said.
They carried Hinata's dad away in a body bag and loaded Hinata in the ambulance. Daichi and I raced after them.
When we arrived at the hospital Hinata had already been taken inside, so we tried to walk calmly inside to the waiting room so that we could go see him as soon as they were done running their tests and providing his needed medications.
We waited in the waiting room for about an hour before Daichi and I both fell asleep. It had been a long day and we were both mentally exhausted, so we could not even begin to imagine how Hinata would feel when he woke up.

I woke up to a gentle tapping on my shoulder. I opened my eyes and saw a nurse standing in front of me. "You two are here for Shoyo Hinata, correct?" She asked politely. "Yes, we are." I said as Daichi started to wake up as well.
"Well he's not awake yet, but you're welcome to sit in his room for the night. There's also a doctor waiting to explain the extremities of his injuries since he has no legal guardian at the moment." The nurse said in a more hushed voice.
"Okay, Thank you for everything." Daichi said as we both stood up to follow the nurse to Hinata's room.
When we made it to his room I peered inside and peaked at his almost lifeless looking body. He was covered in bruises and had cuts in his face. He was pale and had deep, dark circles under his eyes.
"Are you two friends of Shoyo Hinata?" The doctor asked when we entered the room.
"Yes, we are his volleyball club teammates." Daichi said as we both took a seat to listen to what the doctor had to say about Hinata's condition.
"Okay, well what I'm about to tell you could be shocking but I need you both to try to stay calm and quiet so we don't wake him." The doctor said gesturing to Hinata. We both nodded to show we understood.
"Your friend has been through a lot of physical and psychological stress over the past couple days. He shows signs of being roughly sexually assaulted multiple times and being abused. The good but dark news is that he is healing quicker than expected. In fact, he's already showing signs of recovery. But he's healing quicker because his body has become accustomed to the abuse and had begun to heal itself quicker."
"So... He's healing quicker... Because he's used to being abused?" I asked.
"I'm afraid so..." The doctor told us.
"Do you by chance know about how long ago it started?" Daichi asked.
"Our estimate is about 6-7 years ago. We can't tell the exact year, but that's a close guess." The doctor said.
Daichi and I exchanged a glance at each other. "Thank you for helping him and answering our questions." Daichi said.
"Of course. If you have anymore questions or if he wakes up, hit the call button and we'll be right in." The doctor said as he left the room.
"So Hinata's been abused for 6-7 years and none of us noticed? How did we not suspect anything sooner?" I asked.
"I don't know Kageyama... He must have felt so alone..." Daichi said sadly.
"I know, I couldn't imagine going through that for half of my life and not having anyone to help me or to talk to about it..." I said.
"Well all we can do now is be there for him during his recovery. He will need a solid support system when he wakes up." Daichi said.
"Have you told the team yet?" I asked.
"No, I can go group call them though, i'll be right back. Daichi said as he walked into the hallway and shut the door.
I grabbed Hinata's hand and my eyes started to tear up at the thought that he was so alone for so long. I saw the bruises but didn't say anything. I saw the signs but ignored them because no one ever thinks that things like this happen to people in their life. I laid my head down and silently cried until I feel asleep with my head in his lap.
