《The Fading Sunshine》Chapter 16

**Kageyama's POV

I received a message from Hinata around 9:30 saying he was heading down to the cafeteria. But that was 15 minutes ago. It's taking him way too long to get here and I was starting to worry. So I excused myself from the table and went to the elevator to go see if he had even left the room yet.

I got off the elevator and heard noises. I didn't know what it was but I looked over and I saw a man beating up on a boy.

"Hey whats going on?" I called but as I got closer I saw Hinata's orange hair. I panicked.

"HEY WHAT THE HELL MAN?! GET AWAY FROM HIM!" I cried out. He looked at me and ran away down the hall.

I ran over to Hinata to see how bad it was. I could only really see his face but even that was bad. His lip and nose were bleeding and his left eye was starting to bruise up.

I lifted his shirt to see the damage done to his sides and abdomen. But what I saw petrified me. He already was covered in bruises that were starting to heal up. There's no way these are from tonight.

I called Daichi immediately.

"Hey Kageyama, whats up?" Daichi asked.

"I need you to come up the elevator like you're going to the room, but meet me in that hallway." I said urgently.

"Why, what's wrong?" He asked, more worried this time.

"Just hurry, it's bad." I said and hung up.

I was shaking violently. Who could do this to him? Who would want to hurt Hinata? He never gets into fights so what could have happened while he was up here?

A couple of minutes passed and I heard the elevator ding and Daichi and Suga ran off the elevator and in our direction.

"What happened!?" They said simultaneously.

"I don't know. Hinata texted me and said he was coming down to the cafeteria, but 15 minutes passed and he wasn't down there so I came to look for him. So I came up here to check the room first and when I got off the elevator a man was standing over him beating the living shit out of him." I said.

I felt tears coming to my eyes. I never cried. Why was I getting so upset. Yeah I cared about him but I care about the whole team and I don't cry when bad things happen to them.

"The damage doesn't look too bad. I think the nurse can handle this one. Why don't we carry him down there?" Suga suggested.

"Okay yeah. I'll carry him down there. Are you two coming with me?" I asked.

"Yes, we'll all go down together. He'll need people there for him in case he wakes up." Suga said with pity in his voice.

I picked him up and walked onto the elevator. Daichi hit the button for the first floor and the doors shut. The whole trip to the nurse was silent. I guess nobody really knew what to say. I mean what could we say?

We arrived at the nurses office and I laid Hinata down on the bed. The nurse looked over and her eyes widened. "What happened to him this time?!" She asked.

"We saw a guy beating up on him in the hallway and he's pretty bruised up so we brought him here hoping you could help." Daichi said calmly.

"Well I think he should be fine after we clean him up. The damage doesn't look too bad so he should be fine after a day or two. But he'll be pretty sore." She told us.

"Alright. Well thank you for helping, I know it's getting kinda late." Suga said to her.

"It's really nothing. I don't mind at all." She said with a soft smile.

After about 20 minutes she managed to get Hinata cleaned up and examined his bruises. She came to the conclusion that most of his bruises were a couple days old and seemed as if they were the result of another fight of some sort. Could that be why he had been so upset earlier today?

"Thank you again for taking care of him." Suga said as we got ready to leave.

Hinata had not yet woken up so I picked him up and carried him back up to the room. When got inside the room the team was already asleep. It was around 11:00 at this point so we assumed they would be. I laid him down on his futon and as I slipped my arms out from under him he stirred ever so slightly.

"Hinata?" I whispered. His eyes twitched slightly but he remained unconscious. If I were in his position I would want someone there for me when I woke up. So I laid down beside him and watched his face as he slept. He looked so at peace. He must be exhausted from everything he endured today.

At that thought, I realized how tired I was. I continued to look at Hinata until my eyes fluttered closed and I fell asleep.

*** Hinatas POV

I regained consciousness but kept my eyes closed. I felt a bed of some sort beneath me but that doesn't tell me anything about where I am. I built up the courage to open my eyes. I opened them slightly and looked around. I saw someone laying next to me. I couldn't see well in the darkness and couldn't tell who I was looking at.

As I looked closer and my eyes adjusted more to the darkness I saw that it was... Kageyama? How did I end up in bed with Kageyama. The last thing I remember was getting the shit beat out of me by Koki.

I tried to move around but a pain shot through my body. My whole body hurt so bad. I started looking around frantically. I needed to know where I was. Kageyama was blocking my view of the rest of the room. What if Koki had gotten Kageyama too. What if we were both back in the empty room.

I started shaking and my breath left me. I clutched my throat as I gasped for air. I felt warm tears come to my eyes. This must have disturbed Kageyama because he woke up and looked at me panicked.

"Hinata, it's okay. Breathe. You're safe. It's just me." He said in a whisper. He sat up to calm me which unblocked the view of the room. My eyes darted around the room behind him. I saw Ennoshita and Noya sleeping on the futons beside ours. Was I back in the team room?

"Hinata. You have to calm down. You might wake the others up." Kageyama said. He seemed scared for me. Had he been the one that saved me from Koki? Could that be why he seemed so anxious.

I calmed my breathing and he laid back down beside me. We looked at each other for a minute before either of us spoke.

"How are you feeling?" He asked.

"F-fine." I said. My voice was still shaky.

"Are you sure? Do you wanna tell me what happened out there in the hallway?" said Kageyama.

"C-can we talk t-tomorrow?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'm sorry. You probably want to rest." He said as he started to get up. I grabbed his arm. "W-wait... Would you... Stay here with me tonight?" I asked. I was scared and didn't want to be alone right now.

"Yeah of course." He said with a sympathetic smile. He laid back down beside me and he looked at me for a few seconds before closing his eyes.

I studied his face and closed my eyes as well. I wasn't going to fall asleep but I could at least let my body rest.

We both laid there for about ten minutes before I jerked back awake. I seemed to be doing this ever since the first occurrence with Koki. I think I'm just scared to see Koki in my dreams again.

"Hinata?..." Kageyama asked groggily.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you..." I said.

"No, it's okay. Can't sleep?" He asked.

"No..." I told him.

"Come here." He said as he extended his arm.

I leaned into him and laid my head on his shoulder. He wrapped his other arm around me and held me close. His breathing slowed and he soon fell back asleep.

This felt so comforting. I felt safe for the first time in years. "I wanted to stay like this forever." I thought to myself quietly and my eyes closed and I finally fell asleep.
