《The Fading Sunshine》Chapter 13

I woke up around 10 o'clock that morning. Nekoma and the rest of the teams were already down at the gym at this time playing. I went to our room and changed into my jersey. I stared at the cuts on my wrist, then I remembered I had packed my long sleeve undershirt. I slipped on my under shirt, our cover shirt and pants and headed down to the gym.
When I got down there I watched the game being played at the moment. It was Aoba Johsai vs. Karasuno. The score was 19-16 with Karasuno in the lead. They were keeping a steady lead... without me... I mean why would they need me, I just screw the whole team up.
Karasuno won the match 25-21. Seijoh Started their flying lap as I attempted to wave down my team. Nishanoya saw me and jumped up and down yelling for me to come down.
I walked down and they all began to bombard me with questions.
"Daichi said you had a sleepover with Nekoma, whats the deal with that?! No sleeping with the enemy!" Noya said with a chuckle.
"Well we just never see them I went to spend a little more time with them last night." I said with a small laugh. I wonder if Suga said anything to Daichi or the others?
"Well you're staying with us tonight right?" Noya asked.
"Yeah I think so." I said as I rubbed the back of my neck.
"Well good, you missed last night!" Noya said with a hint of happiness in his voice.
I looked around at the rest of the team. "Yeah what Noya said." Yamaguchi told me with a soft laugh.
"So are you playing the next game?" Kageyama asked.
I looked at everyone and then looked to the ground. "You all seemed to be doing well without me... I didn't think you would want me to play this next game...." I said slowly.

"Hell yeah we want you to play, why would we not. The team isn't the same without our bundle of energy." Tanaka said.
"Oh okay, then yeah i'll play. But i'll need to warm up." I said with a smile.
"Alright then let's get to it. We play Fukurodani next." Daichi said in his usual down to business tone.
We all walked back to the court and I warmed up with Kageyama while the rest of the team took a quick break.
When we were ready to play I took off my warm up suit and joined the rest of team on the end line. Kageyama looked at me and asked, "Won't you get hot in that."
"No i'll be fine. I was kinda cold yesterday anyways." I said.
"Alright, if you say so." Kageyama said.
We got into our starting positions and the game started. Fukurodani had first serve. Daichi received it to Kageyama, who set it to me. I jumped with all my power and slammed the ball down, earning us the first point. We all cheered and set back up for the next point.
As the game went on we kept the lead but couldn't get a solid one. It was 18-17 and Akaashi was up to serve. Noya received it to Kageyama and I went out for a back quick attack. I rolled my ankle as I jumped and the ball barely brushed my fingers. It hit the ground but that didn't stop Kageyama from yelling at me.
"WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT??" Kageyama yelled.
"I-I rolled my ankle and fell." I said back with a stutter.
"BUT HOW DO YOU MISS THE WHOLE BALL?? IT BARELY HIT EVEN ONE OF YOUR FINGERS."
"I ALREADY TOLD YOU I ROLLED MY ANKLE! WHY ARE YOU LOSING YOUR HEAD OVER THIS." I screamed back. I wasn't normally one to yell, but I don't know why came over me.

"LISTEN HER YOU LITTLE SHIT..."
That's all I heard before my ears started to ring. My head went back to last night when Koki had called me little shit. It all came back. I felt myself began to shake.
**Kuroo's POV
I was watching the Fukurodani vs. Karasuno game from the stands when I saw Hinata and Kageyama start to fight. I don't know exactly what was said but the last thing I heard was Kageyama yell "Listen here you little shit..." then the whole gym watched as Hinata fell to the floor a shaking mess.
He pulled his head to his knees and held his head in his hands. I ran to his side and tried to calm him. "Hinata, you're okay. Hey Hinata." I put my hand on his shoulder and he moved away from my touch.
"GET AWAY FROM ME! DONT HURT ME!"
He yelled at me.
"Hinata, no ones gonna hurt you. It okay." I said calmly. I moved closer to him and continued to talk to him. I guess I had gotten too close to comfort him because he put an arm out to stop me from getting any closer.
"I SAID GET AWAY FROM ME!" He looked up at me and his eyes were filled with tears and fear. I looked down at his arm and saw something white under his sleeve. I slowly went to touch it and he didn't flinch so I kept moving towards it.
I pulled up his sleeve and saw bloody bandages. I looked at him with wide eyes, but he wasn't looking at me anymore. He was looking at the floor as more tears fell to the floor.
"I'm carrying him to the nurse." I said. I picked him up and carried him out of the gym and down the hall. I sat him down on the nursing bed and let the nurse help him.
She unwrapped his bandages and I don't think anything could prepare me for what I was about to see. I saw 6 fresh cuts, three on each arm, and they had re-opened and were bleeding again.
The nurse worked quickly and smoothly. She replaced all of his bandages.
"Could we have a minute?" I asked
"Of course." She said and she left the room.
"I think it's time for you to tell about last night." I said.

I had the same nightmare again. The loss of my first life continues to haunt me, but now it aches like an old wound. A more grievous injury to my psyche was the losses yet to come and the inevitable hellscape I would return to again and again. Reincarnation is my curse. The lives themselves weren't all that bad. Losing people you cared about hurt and all, but even that pain was preferable to experiencing the nothingness between lives for months at a time. It was enough to drive anyone mad. Now I have to focus on breaking this horrible cycle. Thankfully I have all the time in the world. Trace is an average man driven by extraordinary circumstances in an indifferent and cruel world. His reincarnations give him a few key advantages but also take a heavy toll on him. He lives in a world where magic is uncommon and underpowered compared to the limitless physical adaptations you can acquire by getting your hands a little bloody. This story is one of hardship and terrible lows, but also monumental achievements and grand heights. The main character has flaws. While some of these flaws will fade with time, others will worsen. Thank you for taking the time to read my synopsis. I plan to release 2-3 chapters a week. Walking an empty life, he was granted a new start within a story of his own making. Instead of being able to walk the life of a mc he was designated the role of a side villain, an intentional loose end as there was no real “role” outside of being the villain. Unneeded and unwanted in this story but granted a new lease on life he decided to take up the role of the lead villain and to rest control of his story back into his own hands! --------- Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge November 2021!
