《The Fading Sunshine》Chapter 5

The next morning I woke up to my alarm beeping. I shut it off and groaned as I pulled my blanket over my head. My stomach still hurt a lot, but at least I didn't have any new wounds.
I rolled out of bed and went down to the kitchen to eat breakfast. I walked into the kitchen and saw my dad sitting at the kitchen table with his head in his hands.
"Dad?" I said quietly. He didn't move at all. "Dad..." I shook his shoulder lightly, attempting to wake him up.
He jolted up right and slapped me away. I stumbled back holding my cheek, trying to process what just happened.
"What is with your new found obsession with waking me up while i'm sleeping." He growled.
"I-i'm sorry, I was just trying wake you so you could sleep in your b-bed instead of on the table...." I muttered.
"Well I was sleeping fine, don't bother me while i'm sleeping."
"Yes sir..." I said, not wanting to get into any fights with him this morning.
I went back up to my room without having eaten breakfast and gathered my things to leave for school. I walked downstairs and out the door, trying my best to avoid my dad.
I walked to school with Kageyama that morning. There was this weird tension between us that wasn't usually there. I knew it was because of our argument from the day before, but neither of us wanted to talk about it, so we stayed silent the entire walk to school.
We arrived at the gym and walked towards the club room. I dressed myself in my practice clothes today so I wouldn't have to change in front of everyone and risk them seeing my new cuts. I dropped off my stuff by my locker and put in my volleyball shoes. I lingered in the clubroom since I was going to be ready so much faster than everyone.

"Hey... Hinata..." I looked up and saw Kageyama looking down at the ground with a hand on his neck. "I'm sorry for yesterday. I didn't mean to upset you, I just didn't want you to get hurt...."
Was King Kageyama really apologizing? Maybe he cares a lot more than I thought he did...
"No i'm sorry Yama... I shouldn't have yelled at you like that. Thank you for looking out for me, but you really don't have to..." I said while looking at the ground.
"I know I don't have to, but I want to." He said.
He cut his eyes to the side and his cheeks turned a bright pink.
"Well, just don't go easy on me today... Okay?" I said.
"Okay, but don't push yourself too hard. The bruises from your bike accident still seem to be prominent."
"Biking accident... What biking accident?" I asked confused.
He looked up at me with confused eyes. "Didn't you say you wiped out on your bike the other day?"
I realized my mistake and panicked. "Oh yeah, the b-biking accident. Yeah i'll make sure to pace myself today."
"Okay, good." He said. "Let's head down and start putting the net up."
"Okay!" I said, following him out of the club room.
When we finished setting up the net, almost everyone had finally gotten dressed and warmed up. We went right into a scrimmage game so we could focus on receiving drills this afternoon.
We were all especially tired this morning, but I felt nauseous as I remembered I didn't eat breakfast this morning. It felt like I could feel my energy levels physically go down every time I jumped. My breathing started to become ragged as I transitioned to go hit. But in spite of all this I ran in for a spike. As soon as jumped my vision went blurry and my ears started ringing. I missed the ball... well I actually didn't even swing, I just felt so exhausted.

My feet hit the ground and I tried to catch my breath. I could hear someone yelling but I didn't care. The yelling started to fade and the room started to spin. I felt myself lose my balance and fall to the ground.

They must carve out a new home for themselves in the landscape of the now rapidly changing world. They'll need to depend on each other more than ever if they hope for their new home to have any kind of future. In case you missed it, here's book one. ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.

Primacy Online
Life on Earth was nearly eradicated in World War III, but using alien technology, the Patriarch of the Church of the Resurrection built a new society from the ashes. He created what he called the Constructed Reality MMORPG, Primacy Online, a world so real that the players could not distinguish it from reality. After outlawing wars between the city-states on Earth, he declared that all wars would be fought inside the world of Primacy Online. Thirteen hundred years later, the release of Primacy Online VI: Legacy of Balor signals the beginning of World War IX. Players from Earth's city-states will be locked in cryogenic capsules and play Primacy Online in War Mode. Their achievements in the game will determine the victory rankings of their city-states, but if they die in the game, they will die for real. Patrick Armagh found flaws in the game mechanics of Primacy Online and exploited them to rise to the peak of the game. But when the Church declared he was cheating, he was perma-banned from the game. Now, the Church has declared that Patrick and all the other perma-banned cheaters will be included in a special Church group for World War IX, where they can earn redemption for their sin of cheating. However, Morgan Danan, Speaker of the City of Mann, and the generally acknowledged number one player of Primacy Online, has a deal for Patrick. With her help and his method of cheating, he has the chance to become a virtual god within Primacy Online, but by taking up her offer, he will become an enemy of the Church. Like a significant percentage of Primacy Online players, Patrick suffers from an ultimately fatal, degenerative nervous system disorder. He has less than five years to live. With death staring him in the face and nothing to live for, he accepts Morgan Danan's offer, and once again, enters Primacy Online as Crom Cruach, a disgraced legend. Will Crom Cruach, once again, become a legend, or will he be destroyed by the Church? What secrets has the Church hidden inside the game?
