《The Fading Sunshine》Chapter 2

**still Hinata's POV
The following morning, I woke up 20 minutes before my alarm was set to go off. I didn't see the point in going back to bed, so I got up to get ready for school. As soon as I stood up, all of the pain from last night resurfaced and I sat back down on my bed. I lifted my shirt to check for bruises and sure enough my abdomen was covered in black and blue bruises. I got up and limped to my bathroom to get a look at the damage done to my back. As expected, it looked the same as my stomach. I realized as i looked up at my face that I didn't wash off the blood from last night. So I got in the shower to clean my cuts and bruises.
When I got out of the shower, I heard a door slam followed by some mumbling. So I ran quickly and quietly to my room to get dressed. I put on a hoodie and sweatpants, grabbed my bag and crept down the stairs. I saw my dad waiting in the kitchen with an empty beer bottle in hand. "Shit." I whispered to myself and I built up the courage to walk past him. I finally walked past him to the door and as soon as I put my hand on the doorknob, a bottle broke on the wall about a foot away from my head. I spun around, but not in time to dodge the next bottle that collided with me shoulder. Luckily I was wearing my hoodie, so the glass couldn't cut me. I was trembling, afraid of what might happen next as he strode towards me. I braces myself for a punch to the face or a kick to the gut. But instead, he got inches away from my face and said, "If you're late again tonight, you'll regret it." I looked him in the eye, cowering under his hateful glare trying not to think of what he might do if I disobeyed him again. "Y-Yes sir." I said stuttering.

I opened the door and pulled my hood onto my head as I walked down my driveway. I decided I was too sore to walk to school, so instead I rode my bike. I didn't care that I was leaving fifteen minutes early, I just needed to get away from that monster.
I was coming upon the spot where I always meet Kageyama. I saw him leaning against a streetlight while doing something in his phone. He heard the sound of the bike tires on the road and waved at me. At this moment, I realized I forgot to cover my bruises. So i put my head down, hoping he didn't see my wounds. As I passed Kageyama he started to chase me while yelling, "HINATA, YOU FORGOT ABOUT ME DUMBASS! WAIT UP!" But I ignored him and just pretended I couldn't hear him.
**Kageyama's POV
When I finished getting ready for school, I checked the time and realized I had gotten ready ten minutes faster than usual. Not knowing what else to do with my morning, I went ahead and started walking to mine and Hinata's spot. I played some games on my phone to pass the time. About five minutes later, I heard the sound a bike chain spinning. I looked up and waved as I saw Hinata riding towards me. "Huh, that's weird." I whispered to myself. He has his hood up and it's not even cold outside. When he looked at me my stomach dropped, his lip was swollen and he nose was badly bruised. But the way he looked at me almost looked... empty. He looked back down and rode past me as if I wasn't there. I collected my belongings and raced after him, trying to get his attention but he didn't stop. "HINATA YOU FORGOT ABOUT ME DUMBASS!! WAIT UP!!" But he kept riding and I slowed my pace. What could've happened to him to make him look like that?

When I finally made it to school, I saw hinata slumped over on the wall outside the gym sound asleep. I looked at him for a minute, examining his wounds, before I woke him up and unlocked the gym door since I still had the keys from yesterday.
We walked up to the changing room and Hinata faced the wall, not once looking at me or the others that were entering the locker room.
We all headed down to the gym to begin morning practice. As we were setting up the net I noticed that shorty was now jumping around and smiling like normal. A few people had questioned his injuries but he brushed them off and said he wiped out on his bike. Even though I had no reason to doubt his excuses, I couldn't get the image of his hollow expression out of my head.
**Hinatas POV
My bruises must be worse than I thought. Every time I go up to swing at a quick attack, I feel a sharp pain in my side. I try to keep a smile on my face but it's getting hard. I kept an eye on the clock and counted down the minutes until practice was over.
When practice finally ended, I sighed in relief that I could stop moving and hurting my side, but scared that I have to go home and face my dad.
I slowly rode my bike to my house trying to go smoothly and slowly to reduce movement and the pain on my ribs.
When I got home, I parked my bike next to the house and walked up the stairs to our front door. I opened the door and quietly peered inside, looking for my dad. I spotted him passed out of the couch surrounded by beer bottles.
I turned and shut the door and tried to be as quiet as possible when I tripped over my dads shoe and fell. I instantly looked at my dad who stirred slightly but didn't wake up and sighed in relief.
I silently got back up and crept up the stairs. When I dropped one of my kneepads and slipped. I cringed as I fell down a couple of stairs, causing a decently loud bang as I hit the stair. I scurried up the stairs and ran into my room, hoping I hadn't woken up my dad.
I climbed into bed to rest for a minute before I started my homework. I hadn't realized how exhausted I was physically and mentally. So I let my eyes flutter shut and drifted to sleep for a few moments before I heard someone stomping up the stairs. I rolled over on my bed facing the wall, hoping that he would think i'm sleep and leave me alone. But my thoughts were proven wrong as my door slung open and my father yelled "HINATAAAA!!"
