《The Black Phone Oneshots!》The spaces between seconds (DonnaxGwen, not sure what genre either.)

I tried something different with writing styles, but didn't like it much.
But like Donna lesbian supremacy!!!
Gwen Loves counting, she's been good at it since she was a kid, she's counting into the millions when she had the time. It was an activity she and her mother did when Gwen was still learning how to talk. Maybe it was a coping mechanism of sorts?
She took to counting the seconds instead of sheep when she was younger, maybe around ten or twelve? She stopped a little before her fourteenth birthday after her dad told her it was stupid.
She still counted, just not as much as when she was younger, more just in school when she'd eat behind the school during lunch with her older brother Finney. Finney used to date one of her not-as-close friends, Donna. But they broke up when Donna came out, Finn's still close with her but Gwen stopped hanging out with her after she got called a few slurs by the kids who bullied her brother.
She stopped counting seconds when she started digging her nails into her palms, to stop she started counting milliseconds, the spaces between seconds Finn told her when she was younger.
She appreciated the efforts Finn would put in for her, but he needed to pay more attention to his own life, especially after what happened with...not important. She remembers a quote from one of Amy's TV shows, the world went quiet. That perfectly sums up that moment when she hugged her brother for the first time in what felt like years.
She remembered Donna bringing some assorted desserts by when she got the news, she thanked her quietly so as to not wake her father in the other room and Donna left after a little bit of small talk. She wore a pretty floral dress with the background color being off-white.
Finn and her broke up around sophomore year for them, and freshman for Gwen, about a year ago. She admired Donna's bravery, even if the town's more accepting than it was when their parents were kids it's still a very small tightly-knit place. Word gets around.
Gwen herself could never, even if she yearns to be out like Donna, she knows it'd make her home life much more difficult. She can sit by idly till she's off to college and away from her father, even if it means passing up the opportunity of Donna.
Like when she was around nine, she saw Donna glance at her lips before catching herself. This was at Donna's tenth birthday party, Gwen's mom was still alive at this time and she was in love with the idea of the two girls being friends. Gwen didn't really like Donna much at this time because she was jealous of the fact she had a good home life. Even if it was better than it is now, it still wasn't great.

When she was she think eleven, Donna was twelve, she remembers Donna making a comment about how she was jealous of Gwen's bravery and how tough she is. Which, fair, she had almost beaten a boy's brains in for jumping her brother. Ironic, since Gwen's now jealous of Donna's bravery.
She remembers something about Donna talking about how similar she and her brother are, in hindsight, should've been a dead giveaway of her not really liking her brother.
When Finn makes a comment about Donna and her hanging out more at lunch that day, she kinda laughs it off and makes it a point to not hang out with her as much, out of respect.
When Finn's saying goodnight to her about a week later, he mentions the fact Donna goes to all of her plays, nothing she can really do anything about. But she laughs it off once again and makes a joke about how she must really like theatre.
And when Donna confronts her a month later in the bathroom, a week before she's supposed to perform as Juliet in the school play, she plays dumb and pretends she has no idea what she's talking about. This brings back the old nervous quirk of digging her nails into her palms and counting the seconds in the back of her head.
"Do you not want to be friends anymore or something?" Donna asks when Gwen isn't answering her anymore and is borderline ignoring her. "What? No-" Well it seems like it!" "Can we talk once the play is done and over with?" "Fine," Donna replies, grabbing her bag and storming out of the bathroom.
Gwen feels bad about it, but she'll cope by sitting in a stall till lunch and counting the seconds. She hears someone come in about ten minutes later and hears soft knocking three times, delicate enough to be Donna but rushed enough to show she is coming in from a class.
"Listen, Gwen, I'm sorry. I shouldn't of questioned you." Donna says voice laced with worry. "It's fine," Gwen responds, voice stable. Donna doesn't reply, she doesn't hear her walk away and her shoes are still visible, so she knows she's still there.
Gwen counts the minutes till Donna talks again, "When can we talk? Actually talk." "Visit me after the show on opening night, I'll have a clear head," Gwen replies, hearing a whispered okay before Donna's shoes tap away back to her class leaving Gwen to quietly count the minutes on the visible clock from the stall she's in.

On opening night, Gwen can see Donns cheering her on from the front row, next to her brother, so she excuse her staring at Donna instead of her Romeo throughout the play through the side of her vision.

She knows Donna catches on when she sinks down in her seat slightly with a small smile, Finn's none the wiser, and Gwen's very thankful for her brother's obviousness.
She can hear the praise from the crowd when she bows on the stage, the waxy residue from her red lipstick making her hair stick to her mouth when she stands back up straight. She can feel Romeo pull her in by the waist and kiss her cheek, she does her best to not make a face and to just get off stage as quickly as possible.
Gwen can hear her dressing room door open and close and then hears the click of the door, she would've said something but she waits till the door is closed and locked before talking when she sees Donna in her mirror.
"Hey," Gwen says, looking at Donna through her mirror.
Something about this reminds her of when she was around fifteen and changing to go swim in Donna's neighborhood pool and purposely taking a little longer so she could feel Donna's eyes on her.
Maybe that's why she got into theatre, to feel watched, she loves being under the spotlight. Getting the attention she craved from her brother's ex, or maybe just so she could see Donna in the back row with a hood up. Trying to not be seen.
She can feel Donna's eyes looking at the back of her dress, she was planning on changing as soon as she got back but didn't want the door to be opened to whoever while she was. It's an old costume, so it's a little heftier than the ones she's used to for her typical plays.
She can see Donna slowly walk up behind her through the mirror, then stopping a few feet away, not wanting to impose on Gwen changing or just wanting some privacy. She waits for Gwen to silently give permission through a small nod.
She does and sees Donna walk up closer before letting her fingertips sweep her hair away from the zipper, after getting another small nod she slowly unzips the dress, giving Gwen time to tell her to stop. When she doesn't she lets her fingertips graze the smooth skin of Gwen's back before moving one of the sleeves off on Gwen's shoulders.
Gwen watches her through the mirror, seeing Donna's eyes look at the skin she just revealed before pressing a small kiss to Gwen's shoulder. Gwen wasn't expecting Donna to actually take the bait, even if she told Finn about this to make sure he wouldn't start knocking on the door randomly.
Gwen even went as far as to clear off her dressing room couch. She hoped Donna would get the hint, and she definitely did.
Donna presses a few more kisses to Gwen's shoulder, having to bend down from the fact she's standing and Gwen is sat in her vanity chair.
Gwen would feel a sense of pity if Donna wasn't in more of a trance-like state at the fact Gwen, who's been ignoring her for almost two months, who counts the moments between seconds when she's not sure what else to do. And Donna loves it all, the suspense, the girl who made her realize she wasn't in love with Finney Blake, the girl whose bravery is the reason her brother was found, the one that loves theatre and craves the spotlight.
Gwen can feel Donna pull back which makes her start paying more attention again, Donna helps her stand up and get out of her dress.
Gwen feels Donna press her lips onto hers, before starting to migrate further down towards her chest. Donna's hands are cold, but also soothing, like a cold shower after a workout. Or a sip of cold water in a heat wave.
She knows Donna thinks of herself as a side character of sorts, comedic relief if you will, but she thinks of Donna as the main character of her show. She liked the feeling of being watched, it's why she joined theatre, but nothing compares to Donna's gaze. If she isn't being watched by Donna, it isn't worth it, being the main character isn't quite plausible for her. The lights burn Donna's eyes a little, but she likes being watched by anyone, it's why she was in theatre in middle school and freshman year.
Gwen feels Donna's eyes stare at her face contorting as she works, she can feel her lipstick smudged a little around her mouth and can see it on her lips from when she kissed her.
She can hear a small knock come from outside and her Romeo says he brought her flowers, Donna looks up with slight panic, and Gwen makes a hush sign with her hand. She can hear Romeo walk away with a mutter of 'guess she already left' and it makes them both giggle a bit.
-
When Gwen gets home that night, Finn's siting at the kitchen table with a smile and a cup of coffee. With Robin accompanying him. She pulls up a chair. "So, we know you're getting older, so we wanna just-" Robin starts "Nope." Gwen interrupts, getting back up and heading up to her room.

Wulfgard: The Hunt Never Ends
In the civilized world of humans, 'monsters' have all but passed into legend. But when something goes bump in the night, when people begin to disappear, when a dark mystery begins to haunt even the most peaceful villages, there is only one organization to turn to: the Hunters. The Venatori. Having lived a life of discipline and service, former soldier Caiden Voros finds something even worse than the wars of humans: the monsters that hunt them. Horrors yet unknown even to him and his many scars await in the claws, talons, fangs, and mysterious powers of creatures so far beyond humans that he must dedicate himself entirely to the art of slaying them. Harboring a secret of his own and in a constant struggle to find answers while maintaining his sanity, however, Caiden begins to ask the age-old question... Who is truly worse, the monsters or the Men? Wulfgard: The Hunt Never Ends is an episodic collection of stories, each of which stand on its own, but they also build upon each other in a consecutive order, bridging a gap between a novel and short story collection. These stories follow monster hunter Caiden Voros and his partner Gwen Vergil as they embark on tales of mystery, horror, and adventure to track down monsters - the living dead, beast-men, shape-shifters, spirits, and many more - that would do harm to innocent lives and, by whatever means necessary, put a stop to their terrors. Their motives, however, are not always what they seem.
