《second best // dnf》41. Last Day Together

After relaxing for while, the sun had been replaced by the moon and stars glittered in the night sky.

I put my arm around George's shoulder and whispered.

"I love you George."

"Shut up idiot."

"C'mon," I giggled, "You love me too."

"Whatttt? Nooo!" he scoffed but he reached up and kissed my cheek.

When I awoke the next morning, I groaned and buried myself in the covers. I was led all alone in the bed. Today was George's final day in America. Our last day together. For God knows how long.

I heaved myself out of bed and trailed downstairs. Sapnap and George were both cooking something for breakfast. It smelled nice to be honest and I was hungry.

"How are you on this fine morning?" Sapnap joked, impersonating a British accent.

"Trash because Sapnap is here!" George then mocked in an American accent.

I was laughing uncontrollably when I suddenly stopped. I could smell burning. I scrunched up my nose and cautioned, "Is something burning?"

George and Sapnap's eyes widened and they both rushed over to the oven. Inside, a tray of sausages had just caught fire.

I remember the first time something like this happened; it was George's first day here and I was cooking bacon, he tried to put it out but it burned his hand. It was now his last day here and it wasn't going to happen again. I looked over at them, smoke was billowing off of the sausages and George started flapping his hands around to put out the flames. Wrapping my fingers around his wrist, I yanked him backwards, so he doesn't get hurt by the fire. He scowled as I exclaimed, "I can't let you get burned twice!"

Thinking fast, Sapnap through a cup of water over the fire and the flames sizzled away to ashes. The sausages were black. George chuckled awkwardly and said, "Sausages anyone?"

"Eh," Sapnap shrugged, "at least we have George's eggs," and he gestured to his scrambled eggs in a pan. They ushered me away as they plated up the eggs.

We sat around the table and stared down at our scrambled eggs. They were basically a watery, yellow mush.

"Ew George! C'mon this looks like shit!" Sapnap grimaced and George looked disappointed.

"I think they're wonderful Georgie," I lied but with a smile and shovelled a forkful into my mouth. I forced another smile and swallowed.

After breakfast, we all headed upstairs to get dressed and brush our teeth. I made my way into George's room when I was ready. He had changed out of his pyjamas and he was packing clothes into his suitcase. Everything from the room had been packed already; it made me sad.

"Packing already?" I questioned.

He nodded and sighed deeply, folding a t-shirt and plonking it in. He too seemed to have adopted a miserable expression on his face. But, it was his last day so I wanted him to remember this as the best day. I pulled him away from the suitcase and told him, "I have a surprise."

George groaned, "Dream, honestly I'd love to, but I have to pack."

"C'mon George! You don't even know what the surprise is yet!"

He shook his head and returned to packing. So, I grabbed him, lifted him off the floor and made him face towards me. George wrapped his arms round my neck and legs round my waist.

With raised eyebrows he sighed, "What do you want?"

"Just come with me," I replied and kissed his forehead.

Reluctantly, he took my hand and followed me out of the house. We strolled down the path until we were in the town centre. The sky was a brilliant blue and there wasn't a single cloud in sight.

"What a brilliant day to go on that ferris wheel!" I grinned pointing at it and George exclaimed, "WE'RE GOING ON THE FERRIS WHEEL?!"

I giggled at his excitement and nodded. We joined the queue and eventually made our way onto it. Taking our seats, we fastened our seatbelts and George was literally bouncing with excitement.

He buzzed, "I'm nervous to do this but I'm like really excited at the same time so I keep forgetting that I'm nervous!"

I laughed and watched as he gazed out at the view. The ferris wheel slowly turned as we admired the sights. We watched as the tiny people below rushed around doing there own thing.

George explained, "This reminds me of London, I always wanted to go on the London Eye but the line was always so long that I could never be bothered to queue up, especially on my own."

"Well, is it as fun as it looks?" I asked him.

"YEAH!"

We got off of the ferris wheel and started heading back home. With his fingers entwined in mine, he said to me, "I have to say, no better way to spend my last day in America than with you."
