《second best // dnf》38. Worse than I Thought

"May I?" he asked, gesturing to the mattress and I nodded, wordlessly. He drew back the covers and slumped down beside me, draping his arm over my shoulders and holding me close. I sighed heavily and rested my head on his chest.

Dream glanced down at me and kissed the top of my head and then whispered, "I love you George, you do know that right?"

There was no response. I looked down and he was already asleep. I forced a small smile and ran my fingers gently through his hair.

It's confusing; I wanted George to go because I wanted to keep him safe and keep my promise but at the same time, I'm not sure I can live without him, I'm not sure if I can bare to be away from him again. But, I knew that George's safety was my absolute priority and I knew what I should do.

I didn't end up sleeping that night. George was constantly playing on my mind. As morning drew near, George slowly regained consiousness, fidgeting against my chest. "Good morning," I whispered, twirling his hair around my fingers, he groaned and whined, twisting and squirming around in the bed. "I feel like shit," he whimpered.

He quickly rolled out of bed and rushed into the bathroom, I followed quickly behind him, stumbling into the bathroom to find him throwing up in the toilet. "Oh George..." I pouted, crouching down to his level and rubbed circles on his back in a soothing manner.

After around twenty minutes, he finally calmed down and collapsed into my chest. I wrapped my arms around his body and rocked us back and forth slightly. "C'mon George," I murmured, "Lets get you into bed, alright?"

So I slipped my arms underneath his body and scooped him up off of the ground. He wrapped his arms loosley around my neck and let his head fall against my chest as I carried him into my bedroom and placed him down on the bed and tucking him up in the covers.

"I'm gonna go make us some sandwiches," I say before slipping out of the room and heading downstairs.

As quickly as I could, I prepared some ham and cheese sandwiches and took them upstairs. I walked into the room to see George curled up beneath mountains of thick, fuzzy blankets but still shaking from his fever. I handed him the plate, in which he thanked me and stared down at it.

I noticed that he wasn't eating and said, "You have to eat, it'll do you some good to get some food in your system. He forced and weak smile and nodded but proceeded to leave the plate on the floor, his sandwich still untouched. I held him as he fell asleep then went back downstairs.

"How is he?" Sapnap asked from the sofa.

"Not great," I sighed, "He was throwing up all morning, he has a raging temperature and won't eat. I don't know what's wrong with him but I'm worried about him Sapnap, this isn't like him at all..."

Sapnap chewed on his bottom lip, "See how he is tomorrow then we'll tell him to see a doctor before he books a flight home."

I had yet again another sleepless night. Though this time, I got up early to shower. It was nice to distract my mind from George for a while. However, I was just putting on my fresh clothes when I heard sniffles coming from the other room.

I quickly threw my shirt over my head and stumbled clumsily into our bedroom to see him sat on the bed, his knees curled up to his chest, sobbing uncontrollably into his hands.

My eyes widened and I rushed to his side, "George? What's wrong?" I said softly, taking his face into my hands and turned to his head so our eyes locked.

"I-I'm sorry, I'm s-so sorry, please don't b-be mad," he hiccuped through his sobs.

I frowned, confusedly and placed a hand on his shoulder, my other gently grazing across his cheek, "Hey, hey... George calm down, you're delirious, alright? There's nothing wrong, I'm not mad at you!" I smiled.

"The blood!" he cried, "I'm sorry I d-didn't mean to!" and he thrashed around in the duvet covers before jumping out of bed. He knees buckled and he nearly fell to the floor, shaking with exhaustion.

Worry and confusion we're flooding through my body, "Georgie... there's no blood? What do you mean?"

I slowly went over to the bed and pulled back the blankets to reveal a large, fresh bloodstain on the sheets. My eyes widened in fear as I immediately turned to look at George.

His back was pressed to the wall, his skin was glittering with sweat and his whole body trembling.

"W-what- I... how?" I stuttered, blinking repeatedly, "Where is this from- No..." Memories of a few nights ago crept into my mind... George getting beat up in that alley, his fever, the vomiting, everything was piecing together like a jigsaw puzzle.

"George let me see..." I whispered, gingerly approaching him. Tears fell down his cheeks, his legs were swaying beneath him and his eyes were unfocused. He stumbled forwards slightly, falling into my chest. I put my hands on either side of his waist, to keep him upright, but when I pulled my hands away, they were soaked with blood.

"I'm sorry..." he breathed, collapsing into my arms. I cursed under my breath, my limbs shaking with nerves as I slipped my arms around his waist.

"Stay awake, okay?" I whispered, quickly planting a kiss on top of his hair. He nodded, trembling feverishly and leaning heavily on my shoulder. He wasn't saying anything, he just kept his head low and his eyes firmly shut, completely silent other than his ragged breathing and the occasional sniffles.

I bit down on my lip, nervously, using all my energy not to cry. I needed to get him out to the hallway so I could call for help.

"Dream," he breathed, "I th-think gonna p-pass out," he mumbled, barely audible. I wanted to tell him to hold on, worried we wouldn't make it to the bedroom before he loses too much blood but he had gone about five shades paler than before so I eased him down against the wall and made him sit with his head between his knees. I rubbed circles gently on his back, my eyes frantically scanning the room for my phone. As I see it lying on the table, I jump up and begin dialling 999 (911 idk?) thinking that he was okay but I spun back around to see him go limp and faints from where he was sitting, his head banging against the floor.

"No, no, no...NO! SAPNAP!" I screamed, picking him up so that he was laying against my own body and lifted up his t-shirt. Just as I had suspected, his chest was bleeding... a lot. "SAPNAP HURRY!" I scooped him up again, his head falling unconsciously against my chest and rushed down the stairs, bumping into Sapnap who was stood at the bottom.

He opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off and yelled, "QUICK! We have to get him to the hospital, he's lost a lot of blood!"

Sapnap nodded and ran into the kitchen and then went outside, quickly starting up the car, with me following behind him, still gripping George, pulling him tightly towards me. I pulled the car door open and slid into the backseat, not bothering to buckle in my seatbelt as Sapnap accelerated and sped off down the road.

My hands were trembling so much that I couldn't function properly and I was choking out sobs as I cradled his body.

"Dream here!" Sapnap said and threw an ice pack and a blanket into the backseat, "I got these, thought it might help."

"Oh my God, thank you," I breathed, frantically wiping away my tears.

George was leaving heavily onto me in the back seat of the car, being wrapped in a thick blanket but still trembling hard. His head lolled and his forehead was now pressed against my neck, sending his raging heat unconsciously.

"We're almost there..." I whispered softly to George and tightened my grip, gently resting the ice pack on the side of his neck, my heart rate rapidly increasing and more tears spilling when he showed no response.

"Please drive faster!" I sobbed to Sapnap. Looking, down at George in my arms, I pressed a kiss to his sweaty forehead, lips against his sticky skin, only trying to comfort myself.

"It's okay, you're gonna be fine, I promise..." I whispered, unsure whether I was speaking to George or myself.

We finally arrived at the hospital. Sapnap swerved carelessly into a parking space and we burst out of the car. I was gripping George to my chest with a crushing force, tripping and stumbling as we run to the entrance but not daring to drop him. Sprinting inside, Sapnap yelled, "HELP PLEASE!"

A half a dozen doctors came running out of rooms and all rushed over to George, laying him on a stretcher and then hurrying him away.
