《second best // dnf》30. Backup Boyfriend

He left the house so Sapnap and I turned on the TV. We watched Grey's Anatomy. My eyes were glued to the TV screen when my phone buzzed in my pocket. Someone had DM'd me on Instagram. And that person was Ezra.
Ezra: Meet me at my place ASAP. It's important.

I stared at the message in utter confusion. What in hell did Ezra - that cheating bitch - want with me. I certainly don't want anything to do with him.
In the end, I decided to ignore it. It was probably for the best. Right?
Twenty minutes past and I couldn't stop thinking about the DM, what could he possibly want? I showed Sapnap the message and he told me just forget about it because Ezra probably just wanted to get inside my head.
I went on Twitter, I hadn't checked social media since George's accident. I just couldn't bring myself to face all of the posts about him. As I suspected, everyone assumes that George is dead. That's my fault. On my face reveal stream, someone asked if he was dead and I didn't answer the question and just ended the stream. It was stupid thing to do. Anyways, it's not my place to tell everyone he's alive, he can do it when he's ready.
_ _ _
It had been two hours since Ezra had DM'd me and George still hadn't returned home. It was driving me crazy. Eventually, I burst up from out of my seat and stormed out of the house. As I left I heard Sapnap shout my name. I knew it was probably a bad idea but who cares.
Ezra's hotel was only a few minutes away so I decided to walk there. Grey clouds were gathering in the sky; it was going to rain soon.
There I was, stood in front of his door. My heart was thumping rapidly in my chest. I inhaled deeply and muttered to myself,

"Well here goes nothing."
I knocked my knuckles against the door. The door then swung open.
My face fell as I saw inside the hotel room.
Ezra was there -obviously- but stood at his side, was George who was clutching the golden, locket necklace that Ezra had bought him. He was staring at Ezra and Ezra had his hands cupping George's cheeks.
"George?!" I spat in disbelief and disgust.
His head snapped to look at me and confusion flooded his face. I thought I was going to cry. How could George do this to me? Anger rose in my stomach. Unbelievable thoughts clouded my brain. He cheated on me. All day he's been with Ezra. My hands starting trembling uncontrollably as I curled them into fists.
"Dream? What are you doing here?" he said, his eyebrows knitting together, his voice a little shaky.
I started shouting at him before I could stop myself.
"ME? WHAT AM I DOING HERE? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE!?" I yelled, tears welling in my eyes, "I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE YOU!"
He just stood there in complete silence, with his mouth hanging open in shock.
"HE CHEATED ON YOU GEORGE! HE CHEATED ON YOU AND YOU WENT CRAWLING BACK TO HIM! G-George... I thought you loved me...?"
A tear slipped down George's cheeks as he opened his mouth to say something but no words came out.
I chuckled emotionlessly, "God I can't believe I stupid enough to actually believed that you were in love with me. You know what, you guys deserve each other, you're both cheating, lying assholes."
I slammed the door behind me and stormed out of the building.
"DREAM! DREAM!" George called out, "Please let me explain!"
The rain was pouring down in heavy sheets, drenching my clothes. Tears were sliding down my cheeks. After everything that happened with Ezra, I couldn't believe that he actually went back to him.

I was running home, slamming my feet hard against the floor as I made my way. George was still calling out my name and desperately following behind me.
"Just piss off George," I choked through my sobs, "Please."
Then, his hand grabbed mine and spun me around to face him. He was looking up at me with teary eyes and he begged, "Please Dream it's not what it looked like! I promise, please don't leave me Dream, I can't be alone again please! It's n-not what it l-looks like Dream!"
"Oh really?" I snapped, yanking my hand from his grip and slapping him across the face. I immediately cringed knowing I shouldn't have done that, guilt surged through my body.
We were in my driveway now.
"Dream please let me explain!" he was crying too, "I just need you to listen!"
"Is that all I am to you?" I cried, through my tears, "Your backup boyfriend?!"
I opened the door to my house and began to shut it when George spoke again.
"I'm staying here until you let me talk!" he demanded. His hair was soaking and was plastered to his face.
"Well you can stay outside then!" I countered. I slammed the door in his face and I heard him shout, "I'm not leaving until you open the door Dream! I'm staying until you let me talk!"
I stormed through the house, my shoes leaving wet marks all over the clean floor. Tears were still flooding down my face. Sapnap saw me and exclaimed, "Dream? What the hell happened to you?!"
I ignored him then he said, "Where's George?"
I shouted, "I don't know and don't care!"
Locking myself in my room, I sagged down into my bed and screamed into my pillow before laying on my side and crying. My bedsheets were soaked with tears. I was George's backup boyfriend; after he and Ezra broke up, he needed someone to fall back on. I guess I was that someone. It was stupid of me to believe he actually loved me.
I curled up into a ball and closed my eyes, biting down on my lip in a pathetic, unsuccessful attempt to stop crying.

Dream burst into the house around theee hours ago. He stormed up to his room and hadn't come out since. All I can hear was his muffled screaming. I hadn't seen George in a while either. The time was 7:30pm and I was very hungry.
"DREAM! I'm going to that pizza place, do you want anything?" I yelled and he replied with a small "No."
I put my shoes on and pulled on my coat. The rain was coming down very heavily at this point. I opened the front door and gasped.
George was there, slumped down on the floor. up as the rain came crashing down on him. His skin was chalky pale, his lips were growing blue and his eyes were closed.
"Oh God..." I gasped and immediately bent down to scoop him up. I hurried inside and yelled, "DREAM GET DOWN HERE! QUICKLY I NEED YOUR HELP!"
I heard his bedroom door unlock and he came crashing down the stairs. His face was stained with tears.
I gripped George's shoulders and shook him vigorously, flinching at the freezing temperature of his skin. He was definitely unconscious.
"G-George?" Dream stuttered, slowly drawing closer.
"Dream quick get a blanket, hot water bottle, anything! Quickly!"
Dream nodded and left the room in a hurry.

All that time, George had stayed.

or, Deux Navires Passant dans la Nuit If you wake up in a new world, with only your memories of home to guide you, you have to trust the first people you meet. The first people Leah meets seem to know her - but not her. Leah is thrust into a fighter's role that does not quite suit her, and those who 'rescued' her do their best to help her fit in. They hint at a world that Leah can only vaguely understand without serious research and exploration, but how to do that research, when everyone believes her to be a local of this place, and too many questions might draw unwanted attention? And what about home? The more Leah learns about this world, the less she believes that she woke up on the right side of the bed - or more accurately, on the right side of the conflict. With magic being strictly regulated in her current "home," maybe it's time to uproot and look for a new set of allies... -- Displacement is a queer / lgbt bodyswap isekai: Leah Armande falls out of a Quebecois city into an unfamiliar fantasy world, and Leah Talesh falls out of her adventuring party's homeland and into an unfamiliar industrial world. The story follows both women as they navigate their new surroundings, trying at times to find a way home, at times just to pass for a local, and at times to actually make a life for themselves in their new world. Expect in-depth politics and worldbuilding, sapphic moments, foibles, and far too much time spent either in libraries or convalescing (or sometimes both).
