《Blackstone Inc. (Book 1)》Part 3

Even though my grandmother left me everything she ever owned and what was left in her savings account, and though the said amount would be enough for me to live off of for a little while, I knew I needed a job and sooner rather than later.

So, after having sold her old Station Wagon, I was out grabbing boxes and a lot more tape. After those chores were done, I decided to head to a career center in town and look on the bulletin board for potential job opportunities.

As I walked through the double doors, an olive-skinned woman with black hair and a beautiful smile greeted me from behind the front desk.

"Hey there! What can I help you with today," she asked in a rather cheery voice.

I cleared my throat and looked around for the bulletin board, "Some recent events brought me to Dallas and I find myself in need of a job so I decided to come here while I was out in town today."

She nodded and moved a lock of hair behind her ear, "Okay, awesome. You're definitely in the right place. What kind of job were you looking for?"

"Um, really anything, at the moment. What do you have," I answered.

At this point, it really didn't matter what job I got. As long as it wasn't fast food and it was more than $10 an hour.

She reached for a small stack of papers at the edge of the counter, "Well, you're in luck because someone just came in today and dropped off these fliers and I think the job might suit you. Here you go," she handed me one of the pieces of paper.

I looked down at the company logo at the top and chuckled, "Blackstone Incorporated? I listened to a program on the radio a few days ago about the head of this company. He was talking about his brother being a model or something like that."

She chuckled as well, "What a coincidence. Yeah, Blackstone is a pretty big company around here. I'm surprised the fliers aren't all gone yet. I'd definitely give that number a call as soon as you can."

"Yeah, I definitely will. Thanks for your help," I smiled and turned to walk out.

"No problem. Have a good day and good luck!"

"You as well," I threw my hand up in a wave as I continued looking at the paper.

It was an assistant position offering $15 an hour with a minimum of 50 hours a week and I was already putting the number into my phone.

The ad didn't state whose assistant I'd be but whoever the person was, was obviously rolling in it at the company and I couldn't wait.

This also gave me an in at the company. Maybe, I'd be an assistant for a little while and maybe go back to college so that I could get a job in the actual company and not just for someone at the company.

"Thank you for calling Blackstone Incorporated. This is Marie, how may I assist you?"

"Hi, yes ma'am. My name is Genevieve Carlyle and I was given your ad for an assistant position? I'm very interested and was wondering when I'd be able to come in for an interview," I replied, nerves setting in.

'This could be a really good opportunity for you.'

Tell me about it.

I heard her nails clicking against her keyboard and then she answered, "There are no availabilities in the schedule until not this coming up Tuesday but the next at...9 a.m.? How's that sound?"

I felt my insides tighten at the interview being only a week and four days away but I was also very excited.

"Yeah, that sounds fantastic," I stated as I unlocked my car and got in.

"Awesome. Let me just get some information from you and I'll let you be on your way. Tell me how to spell your name, please. It sounds like a long one," she chuckled.

"Yeah, no, it's fine and it is pretty long. I find that lots of people have problems with mispronouncing and misspelling it and such. It's G-E-..."

The next day I had an appointment with a realtor about the house and I also had an appointment with the manager of an apartment building nearby.

It was high time I found my own place and made Dallas home for a while.

Following the GPS, it brought me to the building just a few minutes before I was scheduled to meet with the manager but I got out anyway and decided to look inside the building.

As I walked in, there was a woman in a black pencil skirt and a white blouse with beige high heels sitting in one of the decorative armchairs in the lobby.

When she heard me walk in, she stood up, "Hi, you must be miss Carlyle. I'm Maggie, the manager of the building."

I outstretched my hand, "Please, call me Gen. And I'm sorry to have made you wait on me. I thought I was actually getting here before you," I said with a chuckle.

She shook my hand and smiled, "No, you're fine. I was in the building today talking to the maintenance man. You ready to go check out the unit?"

It was my turn to smile, "Definitely. I've got to say, the pictures I saw online made the apartment look really nice. And it's only $800?"

She started walking to the elevator, "Yep, and that does include water and trash. There is laundry in the building and I'm not sure if you know this but there are no pets allowed, I'm afraid."

"That's fine. I don't have any anyway," I said as we ascended to the third floor.

As we walked around the apartment, she told me a little about the building. How the neighbors were usually really quiet, there weren't usually any disturbances because this was a good neighborhood, how there are security cameras for the safety of the residents just in case and obviously how little of a drive it was to downtown Dallas just in case I worked there.

She told me it was available immediately and so I filled out an application, paid the fee and put down a deposit for her to hold the apartment for me as I really really wanted it.

It only took her a day to get back to me, telling me that the unit was mine and that I could go and pick up the keys from her and start moving in.

Taking the money my grandmother left me for college, I went and bought furniture for the apartment and by Friday I was all moved in. All that was left was to get groceries and continue packing up the house before the realtor sold it.

Now, the hard part...waiting for the interview.
