《Hidden》Chapter 111

It had been ten long years since dragons had left the world, leaving humanity to severly adapt to the new change. Firstly, humans had to rebuild their lives after such a catastrophic event occurred, fixing homes, lives, and more importantly, each other. Many lives were lost from the brute force of the reborns, once more reducing the population to a dwindling number. If it wasn't for the sudden growth in resources then no one knew where they would be.

Magic still ran through human blood, but now when it crosses another's magic, the consumer is drawn into an unconscious state for a few days, allowing the opposing magic to break down and dissipate. According to some researchers, the bond of a dragon had prevented the magic to break down, thus allowing Latharius to take control of such power. The dragons absence had been a great change too, forcing humans to find new ways to travel, build, and even cope through day to day tasks.

A new council had been created too, one with a king. It wasn't hard to find a new leader, for the headmaster had shown the best characteristics to become the king. Headmaster had lead the construction of the new world, keeping a kind heart as he helped his people rebuild their country. A democracy was put in place to make sure everyone's opinion was heard, and everyone was happy. Of course, the headmaster never left his academy, and instead he turned the building into his home, where the capital would be built around.

Jasmine, the electric mage, had moved to the coast where she became an athletic teacher at one of the new education systems, keeping her students in top shape to help develop their new society. She had remained close to her old friends by sending letters occasionally, although her job always kept her too busy to visit.

As for Peter and David, it had taken them quite a long time, but somehow the red head had managed to make his best friend fall in love with him. Their relationship was bumpy at first, but after a few months of acceptance, David had realized that maybe he really did love the guy.

Now only married for eight years, they had adopted a small young girl with purple hair, for she was a mage capable of mental manipulation, a very rare magic. But it wasn't the magic that had brought Peter and David to adopt her, but rather because of the fact that she was not upset to possibly have to fathers, and that was all they needed to become a happy family.

Now, for Noah, well he continued to search the lands for possibly entry ways to the dragon realm. He wanted to find Emma, it was his only goal, but as time went on, he began to question himself. He had many chances to settle down with different beautiful women, but each time he had politely declined their offer because of the feeling in his heart that he knew other women couldn't fill.

Maybe it was just going dumb love, for they were only young adults when it he met Emma, and yet when he read the definition of love for the first time, he was sure Emma was his first love.

After ten years of travelling, sending letters to his previous compainions to tell them of how he was doing, he would finally find her after so long.

"Why must it rain now?" The dark mage asked to himself. He was travelling in a dense forest while heavy rain poured down into him, the thick canopy not helping the situation. He had dashed into a small indent near a cliff to keep himself dry, sitting on the dry rocks as he waited for the weather to settle.

Pulling out a cloth from his bag, Noah had attempted to dry himself as best he could, only managing to soak the cloth with rain water. With a huff of irritation, he stuffed the cloth back in his bag and stared out into the forest, his black eyes catching a small figure of an animal in the distance.

His stomach rumbled in response, licking his lips as he watched the soaked creature stumble into the dry cave too. Noah then quickly grabbed the creature with his bare hands and lifted it off the ground, his eyes scanning the small animal.

As he inspected the creature he felt his heart pace quicken. It was a reptile, with bat-like wings and horns on its head. Surely this wasn't a dragon, right?

A quick bite to the hand had made Noah release the dragon, allowing it to run back into the dense brush of the forest. The mage was blinking in disbelief, had he really seen a dragon after a decade of searching? Shooting up from his spot, the male was determined to follow the creature back to its home, hoping to possibly find his hearts desire....

The small creature was fast, and Noah had a hard time keeping up; however sheer determination had forced him to keep up, he couldn't lose it now. Heart racing and breathing ragged, the mage ran and ran until his legs felt like jelly, his lungs screaming at him to stop and breath. He would have kept running, that was until he stumbled over some debris on the ground and caused him to tumble onto the dirt. The sounds of small feet had vanished into the forest, replaced with the soft pitter patter of water hitting the green forest leaves.

Noah screamed in frustration. He had been so close! And yet the opportunity of a lifetime was gone. With the rain hiding his tears from the world, the mage headed forwards, where he hoped to find his way back to the cliff. It had taken a few minutes for the rain to stop, but once it did the effects were immediate. Birds came out to feast on the worms that had come out to breath, making the whole forest come to life. Sun trickled through the canopy casting a gentle green light down upon the mages skin.

Returning to the cliffside, Noah looked upon the natural beauty the cliff showed, birds perching on the side to chat, plants growing off the side in small pockets of dirt, the strange carvings that curved around Noah's head....

"What the hell?" He said out loud. There were carving etched into the stone in a circle, almost as if it lined a doorway of sorts. Noah immediately examined the carvings, his thumb gently gliding over the rough surface. Powerful magic rested within the writing, but he couldn't tell what kind.

The strange shuffling of feet brought Noah to look back at the dragon he was previously chasing now behind him, shooting a curious look at him. The mage then shuffled back from the runes and watched the dragon as it cautiously walked over to the carvings, it's eyes glowing.

It was all in one magical moment did Noah have his adventure change. The dragon had somehow caused the runes on the stone to glow bright white, pouring magic out from the stone. The magic then proceeded to weave together to create a portal to a realm of dragons and floating islands. The small black dragon was quick to hop into the portal to the other side, looking back at Noah with sparkling eyes.

Holding his breath, Noah wasted no time in jumping across the portal to the other realm, where the air was much cooler than the previous humid forest he was in, and light seemingly poured in from all around him. Dragons flourished on the islands around him, lazing on the grass or doing arial displays in the sky; or perhaps just socializing with chirps and growls.

Noah's mouth hung open as he looked around, the portal behind him closing and sealing him inside the realm, however he was too awestruck to care. He had found the dragons after so long, and a familiar presence approached him.

"Spirit." He whispered as he spun around. Previous small dragon forgotten, a large black dragon had landed behind him with a smile on her face. Chirping and purring, she embraced her old friend as best she could, wrapping her giant leather wings around the male. Noah easily returned the gesture as he felt his eyes water. He had missed his dragon so dearly to the point where he had numbed the pain of her loss, but now that she was back in his arms, he was sure to never let her go. The two stayed in the embrace for a while until Spirit pulled away and nudged Noah with her snout.

"This place is beautiful, my girl, absolutely astounding." Noah said as he slid off the dragons back. Landing on the ground seemed to catch some dragons attention, but but the scaly beasts shrugged it off when they saw that Spirit was seemingly close to him. Amused, Spirit nudged Noah closer to the water, urging him to look deeper into it.

The dark mage did just that, looking into the water but failing to see a reflecion of himself. Was this a dream? Be thought. It couldn't be, after all, his dragon was here with him, it was all too real.

"Noah?" A feminine voice asked. The males heart stopped, and his dark eyes slowly moved up to the source of the voice. Around him the dragons had stopped drinking and were now standing in a respecful manner, eyeing the girl who stood above the water.

Emma was shocked to see her old friend in this world of dragons, but she was even more surprised when Noah dashed into the water and embraced her, causing Zevar to growl behind her in warning.

"That's enough, Zevar, you know who this it too." The female said camly. The white dragon huffed in annoyance, glaring at Noah who was now standing awkwardly in the waist-deep water. "He's a very special person."

"Have you been here the whole time?" He asked. Indeed Emma looked older, but not in the had way. Her face had matured and showed off more feminine features, along with her body showing off her curves that she had grown in the past ten years. Noah knew he had grown too, but did she think he looked attractive too?

"I've been here this whole time, watching over the dragons and the other world too. I'm waiting for the right moment to return the dragons to the human realm." She said as she guided him from the water. A breeze flew past the two, debris and other small things flying up into the air. Zevar purred, and chills ran up Emma's spine. "And you've come just in time."

"Just in time for what?" He asked.

"For the return of the dragons." Emma replied. It was then that Zevar's grumble had grown to a roar, releasing magic waves all though the air. Portals of bright blinding light appeared all around, and on the other side was were diffrent locations of earth.

Noah watched as dragons then began to filter out of the realm of floating islands, once again blessing the other world with their presence.

"Dragons are now going to be creatures of their own, not bonded to another living human, but rather they will choose to share a bond if they want. This is the new world I envision, a better world." The girl said as she stepped closer to the portal. Noah joined her, intertwining his hand with hers.

"I think this world is perfect, that is if your in it." He smiled. Emma chuckled, squeezing his hand.

"I think I will be." Stepping into the portal, the two crossed worlds, embracing a new future. Together.

A

nd that's a wrap. The end.

I had fun writing this, and with the ending I realise that there is some major editing to be done.

Of course this is my first book, and will never be perfect to my standards, but by coming to accept it, I think I can be happy with the book.

I hope you all enjoyed the story, and thank you for reading until this point, I really can't thank you enough.
