《Hidden》Chapter 97

Emma's mind kept tracing back to the golden dragon that was being torn apart by the reborn's magic, it's distorted body swimming in pain as his rider was walking around with many different abilities in his palm.
After Emma had shown Noah his bond with his dragon, the male had managed to completely shut both her and the small voice out, leaving the girl to sit in the dark attic alone.
The voice chuckled at Emma's sudden suprise. She hadn't heard from the voice for a few days, and it's sudden appearance had frightened her. The sticky presence had clung to her head like a disease, one that she was ready to pry away.
'What drugs do I have to smoke to get you out of my head?" Emma joked to herself. She tried to grasp for a nearby lamp in the dark, but all she felt was darkness.
The presence seemed to smile in glee at unknown memories, it's laugh getting louder when the girl tried to shove the voice out of her head.
The way the voice spoke at the end was tainted with malace, it's sudden mood swing from happiness to a seething anger caught her off-guard, causing her to freeze in fear. Was she just imagining the voice was actually all around her? No, it was just in her head....
'Have you found the weapon yet? My reborn's are already on there way to it as we speak. They're hungry you know, it isn't easy to keep their minds focused off of human magic, it's like an ear-calling song that practically sings through the air.'
Emma was familiar with this song, the one that magic created when it's was strung by the mages around her to use it. It was melodic, and those who could hear it would never come out of it's trance, that's why humans had evolved to cancel the song out, leaving only the seekers to hear it. Magic strings were indestructible, however there was an exception. If a mage had magic in their bodies as they died, the magic would join with the spirit as it travelled to the next life, or so it was believed.

'My life is so screwed' Emma said in her head. The voice chuckled as it realized that the girl had still not found the supposed weapon, whatever that was supposed to be. With a sigh she laid her head in her hands, a sad emotion washing over her.
I dearly wish things could just be normal, it's not fair that I have to sacrifice everything for a world that shows no love to me. Humans all think I'm the strange one here, in tired of being the damn outcast all the time!
The girls thoughts echoed against her empty mind, allowing herself to reflect on the past year of events. It started with Ashley, the magic abuser and her tainted dragon, now she was surrounded by an unknown tribe of shadow mages with Dragon-knows-what outside the door. Emma tried once more to find a lamp, her hand successfully finding one in the suffocating dark.
When she turned the lamp on, the light seemed to chase away all the shadows that were once surrounding the girl. Leaning back into the wood wall, Emma allowed her eyes to close and for the dreams to come to her. If anyone needed her, they could meet her in another realm.

Noah was training alone in the large empty fields of his home, Narosis. His eyes strayed on the moving force feild above that kept the outsiders from finding their treasured home, allowing them to prosper and grow without disturbance.
It wasn't always like this, shadow mages were always at war with light mages, and the fights that transpired between them was always devastating. Seventy-five years ago, an outsider proposed a deal between the two, claiming that both sides could live in peace if agreed. The two sides were to isolate themselves from each other and the outside world, allowing the fighting to seize. Both sides were reluctant to agree, especially since the one who offered this idea was a half-breed shadow mage. Yet they agreed. Since then, the half-breed was known as a saviour, and life had never been better.

Noah was smacked out of his thoughts when a hilt of a sword hit his back, causing him to stumble forward. The male gritted his teeth and clenched the handle on his own sword, quickly spinning one hundred eighty degrees to meet his attacker. Now in front of him stood a slim female, one with long black hair and sun-kissed skin. A pure blood they would call her, respected by many.
"What has your head in the clouds, Noah?" The girl asked with a sharp tone. He growled, body lowering into a defensive stance.
"My thoughts are none of your concern, Savanna. I'm sure the others could use your undying criticism." Noah flexed his jaw, watching as the girls dark eyes glint with amuzment.
"You know they're not as fun as you. I was thinking maybe later tonight I can come over to your dorm and offer you some magic tips, if your up for it." Savanna grinned with a wide set of teeth, allowing her body posture to show what she really meant. Noah grimaced, now relaxing his posture and tucking his sword away.
"I'm a man with honor, I'm not one to give it away to the pit of snakes." And with his words, Noah walked away, snickering as he heard the girl behind him shout in an embarrased rage. Putting the practice sword away, he walked back up to his dorm for the night, his mind lingering on the girl living in his attic.

Scorched - The Winter Winds (LitRPG)
Frank Ebner once wanted to save the world. Let the second one be better than the first. On Earth he was a student of... well it hardly matters anymore. It was dying, and he and the rest of his fellows and friends studying how to stave off the end graduated just in time to be told it was too late. That there was not enough time, funds, will, to stop it anymore. That the governments and the worthies of the world had moved from trying to stop it, to surviving the oncoming apocalypse, while blaming each other. That was a world Frank wanted nothing to do with. One riven by wars for places in the Archologies going up, and between them and the dying world they were leaving behind. So when a strange voice offered him a way out, to a world unmarred by the poison killing his? Frank took it. The voyage changed him, made him fit his new world, one of stats and magic. It came with perks, for in passing through their Heavens, they'd been exposed to Divinity, and taken some of the Celestial within them. Heroes now, but there are heroes, and there are Heroes. The nobility of the Empire care only for those who carry blessed bloodlines, and their time to adapt and train up for the new world is limited. Patrons are scarce among those like Frank, with only the base Hero perks, and magic studies expensive and lengthy. Often requiring heavy Oaths to gain the necessary aid to wield mana as a mage. Frank found another way. It nearly cost him his life. Now on the run and burned by the very magic he sought and craved, he is a pilgrim traveling to the The Eternal Tree, font of Perseverance. Frank hopes Ir-karlak will grant him some way to recover from the fires that scorched him. Without snuffing out the embers those fires lit within, for he has learned to harness them and he would not give up magic for the world. *** In the last 21 days, as I update this, I've managed about 18-19 updates. So Scorched should update most days, muse willing. She's fickle, sometimes. Not every day, but most. If there's an update for the day, it will be at 7PM, GMT+2. *[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Actually completed it. :) *
